Thank you for taking the time to put your comments on Tripadvisor. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back to the hotel again
Myself and my boyfriend recently stayed at the Mercure hotel in Penkridge on a Alton towers getaway. We weren't expecting anything fancy because we paid so little for the whole trip but were pleasantly surprised at how lovely the hotel was. Clean, friendly, quiet and relaxing just what we needed after a busy day at Alton towers.
Breakfast was lovely! The rooms were comfortable and spacious, the bathrooms clean and again very spacious!
A very enjoyable stay I must say, we will be returning.
Thank you for your kid comments, which I will share with the team
We look forward to welcoming you back soon
Stayed here for two nights and never again, the hotel is old,run down and in need of some tlc!rooms awful, rusty taps ,stained bathtub, bathmat in pieces, was given an upgrade room that was smelly,no air,a heater that wouldn't,t turn off and right next to two very dirty office rooms that looked like they had never seen a cleaner.the whole place needs condemning till someone gets to grip with it.its only saving grace was nice friendly staff and good food.not at all like a Mecure hotel at all.could never recommend it to anyone.not impressed when waitress was told by chef to tell customer that he,d burnt the garlic bread so wouldn't,t be charging him for it!,,,,,
We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at Mercure Stafford South Penkridge
I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay.
The bedroom you were allocated on arrival is one of our larger rooms which people usually like, however when you pointed out to our Deputy Manager, Peter, that the heating was on he promptly moved you as he could not see why it was on. Peter later discovered that this room has an odd heater that is controlled separately from the rest of the hotel and someone had switched it on in error.
Our bathrooms are all in good working order, however we do need to upgrade the taps in all areas. I am sure this will happen in time.
I am sorry you saw the offices, they are clean but not well decorated, we prefer to spend what money we have on the guest areas. I will ensure we close the doors
Thank you for your kind comments about the staff and the food, I will circulate this to them
we stayed here for a weekend break, 1st impressions were awful ! the outside of the hotel is really run down, right by a train line, front steps are lethal !
our room was fine, spotlessly clean, basic, beds were comfy , rooms were dark with all the overgrown trees outside
the staff were mostly excellent, particularly Francesca, Rachel - it was her last weekend working in the restaurant, and craig Phillips was great
the restaurant was very good, good quality produce both on our evening meal and breakfast
the swimming pool was disgusting ! the liner was coming away from the wall, the filter was foul, really was a health and safety hazard, in the ladies changing room one of the metal benches had a rotten leg, there was a child in there who had actually pooed on the floor ! the mother didn't seem too concerned !
penkbrige is a lovely village and great to walk around, we were v impressed with the Littleton arms
Thank you for your comments, I will ensure that all of the team are aware of the recognition.
I am very sorry about your experience in the leisure and I assure you that we are looking at the pool as we speak
I have no other way to express my disgust in the lack of care and maintenance of the the fitness club in this hotel. I have read many of the reviews in regards to cleanliness and it is the same in the leisure club. Although I am only a leisure/gym member, I am extremely dissapointed with the lack of hygiene and functioning services in the leisure club. I only joined because of the added value of being able to use the small pool and the steam room after working out in the gym, however in the past three weeks the steam room has been shut and over a week ago they brought the water in the pool's temperature down, that is extremely cold. I have just been told that the steam room will not work for three weeks, until the maintenance man returns from his holidays? I have invited friends and family and they all complain about the shabbiness of the installations, nevertheless at least having a pool and a steam room made the experience bearable, If there is a leisure manager and a hotel manager to take care of things, why hasn't this happened, the state of the changing rooms is extremely unhygienic, even the mat is so old and has concentrated dirt. The showers are not cleaned daily, even though I was told they were. Surely, all the above must impact in the service provided to the customers that stay in the hotel as well. I understand now why there aren't many people attending these facilities, and cannot understand why the management has not realised that they need to start sorting out the hygiene and availability of services in order to attract more members?
Thank you for your comments on this site
I am sorry that you are dissapointed with the services offered in leisure.
Since the 13 June we have been experiencing problems with the pool temperature and the steam room. Both of these problems required a call out and to order parts and although we managed temporary repairs to the pool they were not completely fixed until 27 June.
I am sorry that you have seen a drop in standard with regards to the cleaning. I will investigate this and put it right straight away
Once again thank you
we stayed last weekend, the staff were very pleasant, food very good a good choice for breakfast,i must agree with the last review some of our room could have done with a bit of a clean but the bed linen was fresh and clean and very comfortable.we did visit the pool , again this does need some attention as the outside grounds do,100% for the staff 100% breakfast .room&bathroom 50% pool &outside 30%
Thank you for your comments, we take customer feed-back very seriously and we will use your comments in our future staff training.
As we speak the grounds are being tidied up, so if you return I hope you will notice the difference
