“fantastic resort to discover the marvelous Makunduchi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2014

We have spent 4 nights in Pumzika early in January in the fantastic resort Danielle and Andre have designed with a lot of attention to the finest detail.
It is really a special place with 5 bungalows in a splendid and spacious resort, where the design of the bungalows and the splendid house of our hosts, reminded me being in a fairy tale like Hansel and Gretel.
It has a private front beach with a passage to go to the seaside and enjoy the white sand and the beautiful coral reef. The sea has long tides, so it is marvelous to go for long walks thorough white sand banks and corals.
And there were 2 additional great surprises:
a) the African village of Makunduchi where you can go with a 10 min bike and really experience the local life and discover how from coconut trees local people build their economy and they are making house roofs, ropes, bags, carpets etc. Admiring the Makunduchi women working the coconuts shells on the seaside when there is low tide and then crafting handmade bags in the village is simply priceless.
b) the cooking of chef Andre with his special cold soups (1 fruit, 1 vegetable) we really enjoyed the quality of food and the dinner atmosphere.

As minor remarks, the local people helping Danielle and Andre, in particular taxi driver and local guide, could be better. Not easy to find good local people but for sure an area of improvement.
Definitely looking forward to come back.
Ahsante sana Danielle and Andre

Dear Giovanni!
Thank you for all your nice words and taking time to give us your feedback! Indeed, you are right, Makunduchi is a nice fishermen village and worse to be visited. We are very happy that you had so much fun during your stay. I have to tell you that your smiling and laughing is contagious. Thanks god. You are also right that some of the emplyees do not always fully understand what they should answer, how to behave in certain situations and always place our guest as kings and queens on number one! We will work on this and try to convince our staff to do better. We would be honoed if you come back again. In the meantime get our warm greetings from Pumzika.

Pumzika means "rest" in Swahili. It's the perfect name for this magical resort. I spent 5 nights there over the Christmas holiday resting and rejuvenating before returning to the hectic pace of the everyday world. The resort has been designed with both imagination and attention to detail. It's small, only 14 guests at the maximum, but the small size allows the owners to give each guest lots of individual attention. The bungalows are spacious and decorated imaginatively with local arts and crafts. I stayed in "Le Goyer", which was exceptionally comfortable. I happily ate breakfast every morning on the second floor gallery overlooking the sea. Breakfast includes fresh bread baked daily by the owner who also creates delicious dinners featuring local ingredients. The resort is set in a lush tropical garden, with plenty of shady spots to read a book or socialize with other guests. The friendliness and warmth of the owners, Danielle and Andre, truly make Pumzika special. They make their guests feel like part of their family. If you're looking for a beautiful, quiet place to relax and be spoiled rotten, you'll love Pumzika.

We did a short stop at Pumzika hotel which was one of the best experience we had in Zanzibar.

This place is very homely, comfortable and clean. The food was delicious and the service excellent.

Ahsante Andre & Danielle!

We spent 1 excellent week at Pumzika Beach Resort and really enjoyed everthing of it. The few bungalows of this resort are built with swiss quality and embedded in a wonderful tropical garden with always friendly staff taking care of it. The food, always freshly cooked by the innkeeper himself, is just outstanding and will suprise you even if you are used to gourmet food. Additionally if you are a scuba diver you will find excellent dive sites just a few miles off the resort. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, managed with swiss precision you will love Pumzika Beach Resort.

We spent a wonderful time in Pumzika Beach Resort. The Room was perfectly clean and space, the employees kindly and the keepers really friendly. And the food was delicious, one of the best I've ever had!

Unfortunately we've been just one week, it was a little short!

Room Tip: We lodged in a luxury bungalow.

My cherished guest. Thanks for your prompt and overwhelming comments on your stay at Pumzika. We enjoyed your company, not to forget the daily "brandy dog"-fights that moved us for a short moment back to our youth. We hope there will be for you another time with free googles and palmes(?)...Say hallo to our never-forgotten "Lötschental"...We miss you...

We spent 14 days in the Pumzika Beach Resort. Excellent place, excellent food, excellent nature. The right place for restart or reset. We enjoyed quiet place and the hospitality. The whole resort is organized and build up with a lot of love and swiss accuracy and feeling for detail. Perfect experience is the shopping at the local market place in the stone city.

We spent 6 days in the pumzikabeach after a safari in Kenya. It was really nice to relax at the beach or in the pool of the resort. in this quiet, charming place we had superb moments, with excellent food, good service and lovely ambiente. If you want to relax and get away from the everyday life this is the place to go to. They even managed to get us a private guide (and chauffeur) for a expedition to Ston Town ;)

Room Tip: Our big House with some special name was excellent. It is the one next to the Pool. Maybe this is th...
