“Fantastic experience - wish we would actually stay”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

On a family trip out we found ourselves in a lovely place called Bettyhill. Needing toilets and refreshment we found everything closed except for the hotel on the hill. Getting desperate for the facilities we ventured in but found we were very warmly welcomed to the hotel were we ordered coffee and tea.
The owner could do enough for us, we received fantastic tea, coffee and soft drink for the family. We got hot water and biscuits without asking and nothing seemed to much trouble. Although we didn't spend much we were delighted by the experience and it made our day! Forever I will tell everyone if you are ever in the area and need refreshment then Betty Hill hotel is the place to go. Who knows one day we may visit as hotel guests certainly would like to think we could do that.
Thank you again.

The thing that makes this 2 night stay so memorable was the hilarious owner. He was just so funny and so nice and welcoming. He had us in stitches !
I was stunned upon arrival as we parked at the back of the hotel (never met the owner before) and he walked out of the hotel up to our car and greeted me with ''you must be Natalie''. Now come on.....he is either clairvoyant or he had booked everyone else in and I was the only one left. He actually took the trouble to come out and do that which was brilliant !
Now there is good and bad here........................the first night I have to be honest we had a horrendous room. It was terrible. Right over the bar it was deafening, it was as if the juke box was by the bed. But on complaining to the owners son, who was delightful, then went and turned everything off and emptied the bar. Oh boy if only that happened at every pub in the world !! It was a very dark room, the lamp was broken so I could not read, the loo roll ran out !! and when you pulled the loo roll off to put a new one on that broke and fell on the floor. It was the noisiest room ever as the bed head was on the corridor wall and I was kept awake until 2,30 am and woken at 6 am. Not the best night in the world.
But after a hearty breakfast, really well cooked, good choices and plenty of everything it was onwards and upwards and we went to our next room which was the polar opposite.
Newly done, big en suite. Brightly and cleanly decorated lovely views of fantastic sunsets. I mean really out of this world sunsets over Betty hill beach. Breath taking.
Plenty of loo roll, good lamps and a great shower. Comfy bed. No complaints.
To be fair the owner did say he was taking the first room we stayed in off and no one else would stay there.
The owner was so funny we had not the heart to complain ! He was chatty and interesting. He genuinely cared about the hotel and the plans he had to make it special.
The food was really excellent as well. We had an absolutely superb meal in the lovely dining room again with lovely views and a wonderful sunset. Great ambiance.
I thought the menu was very good with some excellent choices. It was one of the best meals we had on our 2 week tour.
The only thing better than the owner of this hotel was his son. He was such a nice young man he has restored our faith in the youth of today. he could not have been more attentive and caring and helpful. he was also a very very good cook. And had a lovely smile !
Both breakfasts were good and the hotel has a lovely feel.
Well done Bettyhill hotel, you made us laugh out loud and we had a really good stay

Room Tip: Only choose a room at the front. They are really lovely, big and bright and cheery with stunning vie...

Pros - very friendly and welcoming hosts, really nice dining room with a great breakfast and great views, enormous room with a sea view.
Cons - ensuite room actually had its bathroom over the corridor we had no dressing gowns so had to dress to use the loo at night, evening meal in the restaurant was lacking imagination and was somewhat overpriced from a limited menu (bar food might be better value) and the views were somewhat spoilt by the unfinished housing building site over the road. Roads and kerbs are built but the plots are empty.
We would be happy to go back and suggest you ask for a sea view and look at the bar food.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

We went there for our honeymoon this july and I have never been to such a welcoming, clean and friendly hotel (and dog friendly). The staff were so easy to get on with and they made sure we were having a great time. The food is cooked by a young chef Grant and he is going places his food is MMmmm. This is a family run hotel Carl and \chris are 2 of the nicest people I have met in awhile and always had time to just chat no matter how busy they were, even the waitresses were very efficient and friendly sorry aaron and the waiter lol.The golden sand beach is only a 5mn walk and the whole area is teeming with things to do and the hotel is central to all places to visit around it.We cant wait to go there again even if its only a short stay we know we will be welcomed.

Room Tip: room 2 looks right across the bay its view is to die for

We stayed at the hotel on Friday 18th July.
When checking in the owner Gabby was very welcoming, pleasant, friendly, polite everything we could ask for.
She showed us round the hotel and then to our room a nice touch.
Upon first impressions it was fantastic and the view was great.
The room was very clean and tidy and Gabby was happy to help with anything we required.
We had dinner in the restaurant and it was great as was the food and the following breakfast.
Carl Gabby's husband is the ultimate host and always found time to speak to us.
We really enjoyed our stay there and would love to return soon.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Thanks Carl & Gabby and their staff.
Chris & Ron Birmingham.

Room Tip: Room 3 a Great view

The owner Carl was very friendly from the moment we arrived until we left. He clearly has put a lot of personal and financial investment into this property and it is paying off. The room and fittings were of a high standard and the recent refurbishment add to the feeling of staying in luxurious hotel. The view from the dining room was fantastic and the food and selection of wines and whiskies at dinner and breakfast was excellent.
I look to staying there again in the future with my family.

Nicely located hotel with an amazing view over the beach from the dining room. The hotel has obviously recently been refurbished. Our room was comfortable, clean with an en-suite.
We had a extremely pleasant evening sharing one or two malts with some other travellers - very relaxed atmosphere.
The food was good - only piece of advice for the chef is - keep it simple. I had the vegetarian pasta which was lovely but with too much chunky sauce - but I am just being picky!
