“Excellent - truly paradise”
Reviewed 1 October 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed 3 nights at Balam Bali and truly enjoyed ourselves.

Our room, the Baturka, was the nicest room we had in our entire 3-week stay in Bali. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were great. The room was always clean and spacious. We loved all of the natural light and views of the rice fields.

The property itself is fantastic. We enjoyed a mix of sitting by the pool, sitting on the deck overlooking the rice fields, and also upstairs in the breakfast/lunch area.

The breakfast was good, although it would help if there was a menu to order off of. We were very confused the first day because we didn’t know what our options were and only found out that you could order pancakes after seeing someone else eat them. We loved all of the juices and we found the lunch/dinner menu very good and reasonably priced.

The staff was excellent. We got the impression that the hotel takes very good care of its staff, which shows in their performance. We enjoyed talking with them and they were always eager to help us with anything we needed.

Overall, this place is excellent. This hotel was such a nice relief after coming from the madness of Ubud. We highly recommend this property – you will not be disappointed.

We loved our enormous wooden room in the pirate house. Excellent value. The design of this B&B is amazing, it is traditional, modern and luxury. I could have stayed much longer than 4 nights. Food excellent -fresh local dishes. The massage was excellent value. Staff are very kind. This is an unique place were the owners, staff and guests all get along.
If you are looking for a lively place, this is not the place for you. Ubud is a taxi ride away. The B&B organises day trips - they work out a reasonable price if you can share the trip with other guests.

Room Tip: Pirate house. The one with ensuite. I think it called Agung.

It is difficult to find words for Balam Bali´s lovely and friendly staff! The whole atmosphere was so relaxing and pleasant. The Jaipur room was beautiful but the pool area was the best. The whole property was very well kept. I loved evenings with the noise of grasshopper in the rice fields. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners were tasteful.

The fee guided walking tour in the rice paddies and local village was very interesting. We met a group of women preparing offerings. Balam Bali staff also transported us without charge with to other couples to Taman Ayun Temple before the closing time when the tourist groups had left.

There are no other tourists nearby, but the villa is the only one in the middle of rice paddies. Balam Bali Villa is the perfect place to relax a couple of days or stay longer if you take sightseeing trips from the villa. We stayed for 3 nights already in April 2011 and could have stayed longer. I also recommend cycling in the neighborhood. Their massage service was professional and inexpensive. We had the private driver which transported us to and from the villa but the villa also offer the transport.

Balam Bali Villa is one of the best experience in my life!

We found this high rated B&B more than a year before our holiday, and couldn't wait to make our booking. And then we had to wait months and months before our arrival date. In the meantime we have read a lot of positive reviews about this place, which made us even more eager to come. And we were certainly not disappointed. After our pick-up from the aiport we arrived at the beautiful villa, we had rooms Siam and Java, beautifully decorated and very spacious and clean. As we arrived around 13.00, we started with a delicious lunch upstairs with a gorgeous view on the ricefields, so amazing....We spent the first afternoon relaxing by the pool, cycling a bit, and my husband took a massage by Kadek, after which he slept from 09.00 pm until 08.00 am the following day.
The morning after we did the trekking around the villa with Hubert, the owner, a charming man full of humour. It was a lovely walk through the ricefields and to a village, where we saw women making offerings for a big ceremony.
We went twice to Ubud in our three days stay, it is indeed around 45 minutes, but we liked the scenic drive, so we didn't bother the distance.
Ask Hubert to show you the map of the ricefield walk starting at Jl. Kajeng to Sari Organic Restaurant, it is so beautiful there.
And we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere after the hectic Ubud. The meals were delicious, especially the "saté lilit".
Also Adi and the other staff members were very friendly and professional.
They have roomtips on their website, for every kind of family or couples, and since a couple of months there is also a family room, with a second bedroom, this room is named Bali.
If you appreciate a beautiful small resort near Ubud, with very personal touch and attention for every guest, this is the place for you.
We hope to come back, and we wish you all the best with this paradise in Mengwi!

Great hotel with beautiful and clean rooms and an excellent service!
Staff is amazing, they do everything to please you.
Food is delicious (breakfast & diner) and you can make well-organized day trips,
guided by their own staff.
By far the best place we stayed on Bali!

Balam Bali was an amazing place to stay! I stayed there with my family for about 5 nights, during my first trip overseas, am now planning on coming back and Balam Bali is on the top of my list of places to stay! I've told everyone how beautiful & peaceful Mengwi is; and how fantastic and accommodating the Host & Staff are! Hubert took us on a rice field walk which was just fascinating and very fun! Another highlight was our day trip up to the botanical gardens, temples, and massive rice fields with Oka (hmm I doubt I have spelled that right?, Sorry!) Also Adi helped me out hugely when we found our flight was cancelled the day before we flew home! So thank you!!!!!!
I cannot praise this stunning place highly enough. Its fantastic to get out of the hustle of Kuta and just relax, Balam Bali make that possible!!! Cannot wait to come back!

We booked Balam Bali for the final 2 nights of our 15 night Bali holiday, for some relaxation before heading home to winter. We've been here one night and have to leave tomorrow - and are not at all keen on the idea!
The setting is beautiful and peaceful; the room (Bali) luxurious; the staff friendly and helpful; and the food is delicious. Last night's set menu dinner started with vegetable rolls with a peanut dipping sauce - the best sauce we've had while in Bali - followed by a French 'take' on a chicken curry and finished off with a sinfully delicious chocolate tart, still warm. One of the best patisserie I have tasted!
After dinner, we joined Hubert and some of the other guests on a trip to the temple for the full moon celebrations. Quite an experience! The rest of the guests are French - and we are English speakers - and Hubert went out of his way to explain the ceremony to us and to make us feel welcome.
Having just breakfasted on the terrace, we are now contemplating a day of complete laziness. But having just read through other comments here, I wish we had several days more to take advantage of all Balam Bali has to offer. We're already planning a return visit!
