This hotel is an experience on its own. I stayed there in early August 2014. Stunning, relaxing, friendly and conveniently located to discover the best of this island. Staff and owner were really friendly, the day trips were great, massage was awesome, breakfast and dinner were delicious.... 6* hotel!

This bed and breakfast is ideal for anyone interested in enjoying a relaxing vacation while exploring the rich cultural heart of Bali. The location overlooking rice fields is convenient to Ubud yet removed from the island's touristic chaos. The rooms and facilities are decorated with exquisite taste, meals are a celebration of Balinese cuisine with a sophisticated international touch and the staff is unfailingly friendly and helpful. The B&B arranges all sorts of excursions to temples, concerts, rice fields, the beach, volcanoes -- anything you might want to do to have a fantastic trip.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. The team is always happy to see that a stay becomes a memorable moment. However.... i can see that there are only 4 green lights on 5 for cleanliness. it is a signal that tells us to do better and better. Even if sometimes it is difficult, in the middle of nature, with humidity etc... to avoid traces or insects etc. I will discuss with the staff. Thanks again, and come back !

My husband John & I just love this place....it is just right for us...away from all the hustle & noise of Kuta etc.
On our first night back Hubert & Adi (hosts) invited us to attend Jegog performance & Balinese dance by Suara Sakti group at Bentuyung Ubud. How different from the usual touristy shows...very enjoyable.
This trip we stayed in the Jaipur room, shown on the picture, as there was just the 2 of us.
It was lovely to just step out to the pool or the bale overlooking the rice fields. Again the experience of having breakfast (fresh local fruits, pancake etc with fresh fruit juice) with the marvellous view is breathtaking. We were lucky to see the villagers harvesting this time.
Our 4 evening meals were scrumptious...the combination of local & French is amazing...thank you chefs.
Oka was once again happy to drive us about & this time we had a look at Tanah Lot (during the day) and did a drive up to Balian Beach. Great to also see the renos at Oka & Nelly's.
We took the opportunity to see the Museum Puri Lukisan & Neka Art Museum in Ubud one day with lunch at Ibu Rai. Another day we wandered along Hanuman St & Mokey Forest Road & lunched at Café Wayan & Bakery.
John enjoyed the foot massage from Kadek.
It was lovely to see all the wonderful staff at Balam Bali again & to meet Hubert.
Thankyou to Mayun,Oka,Made,Kadek,Agus,Komang & Suardi.
Next time (hopefully next year) we will again bring our grandson Zaivier,
Also loved all the artifacts that adorn the villa.

Room Tip: All rooms are tastefully decorated and appointed. Check with the villa for what best suits tour need...

Excellent B&B in a quiet location just a half hour from Ubud and still an easy 60+ minute drive to Seminyak and beaches. Lovely innkeepers and staff, excellent breakfast as well as evening dining. We won't be looking for a different place to stay on our next trip to Bali.

This was our second visit to Bali and we decided to go back to Balam Bali Villas because we loved it so much the first time around.. Balam Bali has everything working for it - the venue (yes, it's far. But we loved the isolation, the quietude), the food, the staff, the rooms, the views! We rented a bike from Oka's friend and we went back & forth to Ubud, with a few detours along the way!

The staff is really the highlight of Balam Bali. Mayun, Oka, Komang, Made & the kitchen staff!

Great place to go and we'd go there again, without a doubt!

We stayed at Balam Bali Villa for our first 3 nights of a 14 night trip and regret not spending more time there. I had high expectations after the elogious reviews on Tripadvisor, but in fact our experience, although brief, surpassed all expectations. The contrast between the previous evening's drive from the airport through thronging, congested Denpasar and the tranquil setting at breakfast on the roof terrace of the villa surrounded by rice paddies as far as the eye can see was extraordinary. I immediately relaxed and felt that all was right with the world!

The food at breakfast and dinner was very good, served by helpful, friendly, pleasant staff. Do talk to the staff everywhere in Bali if you want to learn about Balinese life and culture. Mayun was from Sidemen and a mine of information. Oka was our driver on a day visiting some of the sites and was not only a skillful, careful driver negotiating the aforementioned roads thronging with people, scooters and all manner of vehicles, but was able to answer our non-stop questions at the same time. My husband had an excellent massage from Kadek.

Didier was the French co-owner in residence during our stay at the end of September and gave us the complimentary 2-hour guided tour of the rice fields and local village. This tour proved to be the best introduction possible to our whole Bali experience. The villa and village are off the beaten track so you will not see any other tourists. We crossed paths with lots of local schoolchildren in their uniforms, all happily enjoying their after school walk and eager to practice their English on us. Didier's knowledgeable commentary throughout the tour gave us a background to the customs and traditions of the Balinese which are all centred on their Hindou-based religious beliefs as is the architecture of their compounds all with temples more or less lavishly decorated giving an indication of the wealth and standing of the family. Didier was available for information and advice at all times. Thank you Didier!

We stayed a night in the Bali room and 2 nights in the Siam, both very comfortably furnished with antiques and giving on to the pool area. There are now mosquito nets around the Siam bed (not shown in photo), but I have to say that during our whole 2 weeks in Bali we were never bothered by mosquitoes, far less than at home in the South of France. I'll mention here too that the weather was absolutely perfect end of September, beginning of October, not a drop of rain, hot enough to keep pool températures everywhere pleasantly warm, but not too hot for sightseeing.

I strongly recommend Balam Balli Villa for at least a 4-day stay and even the 6-day package which will give you a wonderful base for as authentic an experience of Bali as is possible in such a short time. We spent 4 nights in a luxury villa/hotel complex in the jungle just outside Ubud at the end of our stay which cost 3 times the price, but nowhere near 3 times the pleasure we experienced at the villa. And Ubud is chaotic, noisy, crowded and very disappointing apart from its muséums and dance shows (the Kecek dance and the Fire Dance are amazing) The half-hour drive is a small price to pay in exchange for the tranquility and human experience of the villa. A final night at a 5 star hotel near the airport at Jimbaran vindicated our choice of keeping away from the sunbathing masses on the Bukit peninsula!

Room Tip: We were very happy with the Siam room, but the Bali room has an adjoining small room for 2 children.

There are not enough superlatives about this villa. The experience was simply amazing. The reservation process and questions about the stay/area (including coordinating driver who was meeting me from Singapore with delayed flight and a friend who flew in from Los Angeles) was a breeze and so professional thanks to David Lam. The villa itself is in a beautiful and peaceful location amidst rice fields and local village -- close enough to Ubud (probably even closer when damaged bridge is repaired) yet blissfully away from most tourists to have a meaningful and "real" experience. We stayed in the pirate house, which was unique and huge and comfortable, and my room (Agung) had large balcony which we used often for hanging out and relaxing (see later in review). Pool was perfect. Food was excellent. Breakfast every morning with Western and Balinese options. Preset dinner, done with style and perfect proportions and taste. Kudos to the chef! The staff was remarkable!! Friendly and helpful, with excursions to many of the cultural sites in central Bali (Jatiluwih, Lake Batur, Badung, trek along local river, etc...). One of the days was my birthday (my 17th annual 29th) and I was brought a birthday cake -- which was so delicious and such a surprise. Can't beat that personal touch! Some of the best times were hanging out with the people working at the villa at local eateries for fried tofu and Babi guling, or drinking arak at the local wayun -- and also one night on my aforementioned balcony having arak and wine and talking until the wee hours. Need (well, need is relative, but want...) a massage? Kadeck is your man! Thanks to everyone at Balam Bali Villa -- David, Mayun, Oka, Kadeck, Made, Kamong, Didier and whoever else I may be forgetting. It was a truly special experience that I won't ever forget. When back in Bali I will stay again in a nanosecond. (One thing: if you are a light sleeper bring earplugs, as some of the folks who tend the rice fields bang stuff early in the morning to keep birds away).
