“Ideal Skiing Experience”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

We were really impressed with this hotel. Amazing location. Our room overlooked the ski slopes, the rooms were more spacious than expected. We enjoyed our private onsen and also went down to the public onsen nearly every evening and we would occasionally book a massage for after our onsen. Pure bliss. One night after night skiing we grabbed some beers from the convenience store in the Lobby of the hotel and got pizza delivered up to our room. I highly recommend, it was just what we needed! This hotel was clean, we had free wifi, the staff were friendly and we had access straight onto the family run. The only issues we had was the ski locker wasn't very warm or dry so our boots could sometimes be wet in the morning and also the week we stayed there was a HUGE school group which meant our breakfast and onsen times were a bit restricted. I wish they had warned us of that at our time of booking. I would absolutely stay here again. Such an amazing trip.

As this hotel is a ryokan it offers a more traditional Japanese experience than many other hotels in this resort yet it also caters for Western preferences. There are a variety of room styles. We chose the Japanese/western which has the tatami matting etc but western style beds. We opted for the private onsen on our enclosed balcony. We have always enjoyed the onsen experience in Japan but this time chose the private onsen which was convenient for using it often. The hotels main onsen is excellent I have been told. As usual in a Japanese room there is a challenge with storage but we coped. (There is an excellent ski and boot locker system on the floor near the slopes.) Rooms are warm (adjust your own heating) and very clean. The most expensive rooms face Mt. Yotei but we choose to face the ski slope. As Mt Yotei is seldom visible because of cloud we felt we had the best option as there is always something to look at on the ski slope including the night skiing till 8.30. If you book dinner on any or all nights before you arrive, it is only about 2,000 yen, half the normal price. The buffet dinner has a large variety of Japanese and western style foods, all fresh and tasty. We loved the sashimi, sushi and tempura. The staff are exceptionally helpful if you want to try the Japanese food and not sure what goes with what. The buffet breakfast is also a very good mix of Japanese and Western. The hotel is ski-in and ski-out which is so convenient. No dealing with buses and walking. The Family Chair is just close and takes you up to the next set of chairs etc. Reception staff were very helpful and spoke sufficient English for our needs. The hotel was a little more expensive than I had originally planned but savings can be made by not choosing the private onsen. The good value buffet meals and ski-in, ski-out are worthwhile considerations. Not sure about wifi costs but ours was free. There is a laundry. They offer ski passes and ski hire however we hired from NBS, just opposite the Family Chair. NBS offers ski lessons (affiliated with Ski Japan) but there are other good options too. NAC offers lessons and has a new kids school with their own mountain for beginner kids. There are good eating options around. We had very good crepes and cappuccino at the Creperie - Niseko Supply Co., great cocktails at The Barn, and excellent Japanese food and great value at Niseko Rin. (I have tripadvisor entries on all three restaurants). I would stay at the Prince - Hirafutei if coming again. Highly recommend.

Good points: breakfast and dinner buffets offered good variety and quality of food. Was a good mix of Japanese/Western with lots of local seafood.

Very good points: ski-out location is right next to beginner slopes at Family Run and ski lift. Hotel is also very near to the Hirafu Welcome Centre (where the airport transfer buses stop).

Excellent points: we stayed in a traditional Japanese tatami room with onsen ensuite. The thick futon was comfortable and uniquely Japanese. The in-room onsen faces Mt Yotei which provides a beautiful view while bathing away the sores of skiing. Room amenities likes yukata sets and Kosé moisturizer were a nice touch.

Points to improve upon: Service was excellent but the lack of English speakers amongst service staff does make for some lengthy unfruitful conversations.

Overall, would recommend for all and will definitely use the hotel again if visiting Niseko.

This was our second time staying here and it was just a fun as the previous time. We booked the in room onsen and this was well worth it. There's nothing like having a good soak after a day of snowboarding to relieve the sore muscles. The hotel massages were also comparatively cheaper than the places outside the hotel. This invariably means you have to book early.

Loved that they provided us with small snacks each day. The room is large and comfortable (We had 9 ppl hanging out in our room apres ski on a couple of nights). The only down side is that there if you're unlucky, you may be stuck in a room that smells like an ashtray. This is easily remedied by opening the onsen doors to remove the odour. After a few days it will smell freshish again.

If you're not squemish about stripping down, I'd definitely recommend the public onsen as well. There are a few baths with different temperatures as well as an outside onsen that should be experienced. There's nothing like keeping warm while the cold air blows down on your head.

The breakfast buffet as usual is delicious and they change their menu everyday. They provide a mixture of traditional japanese to westernised continental and hot foods for breakfast. We tend to fill up early in the morning and this usually last us through most of the day till afternoon tea.

The hotel is located next to the Ace family run. The lifts are just a short ski/snowboard from the hotel. You can buy discounted lift passes at the hotel and hire equipment relatively cheaply at the hotel (dont expect quality however).

There are several good restaurants close by to the hotel. I'd recommend Bang Bang and Bang Bang 2 for their Izakaya. Delicious but can be expensive. There's a much cheaper place slightly further down the road that sells ramen, most dishes are about $10 - $20 aud.

If you need to wash your clothes after a few days, theres a laundry conveniently located next to the lifts. From recollection it was about $3.00 - $5.00AUD per wash.

For most of our stay we hung a "do no clean" sign outside our room, which meant that we collected the 500 yen hotel vouchers on most days. We used this towards our equipment hire and bought some snacks from the souvenir shop as we were leaving Niseko.

We had a great stay here and would definitely come back again.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the in room onsen

Stayed in Niseko Prince in Feb'13. The room is laid with tatami mats and thats a high plus! We slept like babies for that 4nights. It's really convenient, with the ski track just behind the hotel, we dont have to lug our skis all over the place. We look forward to breakfast and dinner coz the buffet spread was simply fabulous and all so good! Slurp! Despite only 1 staff who can speak english, he was still very helpful and cheerful. Oh! And the onsen, the outdoor one was fantastic! The temperature was just nice for winter and the water was smooth on our skin and the view looking out towards the ski track and forest was simply awesome and so picturesque especially in the night. It was a ski, eat and soak in the onsen trip for us!! Niseko Prince is really the right choice!

Before the stay, we were debating whether we want to pay extra to stay in a room with onsen. Fortunately, we decided to splurge and every day during our 4 nights' stay, we used the private onsen overlooking the snowy mountain of beginner skiers. We maximized our spent - a dip early in the morning after breakfast, a dip after a break of skiing in the afternoon, a dip before dinner, and a dip after dinner. It helped A LOT to sooth the tired and bruised legs after a long day of skiing.

The room is cozy with traditional Japanese style - tatami and futon. You get a voucher back everyday if you decide not to have your room made up. You can redeem the voucher for in-room wifi access.

The package we booked included buffet breakfast, which is a hearty one with a combination of Western and Japanese choices. We felt really lucky and blissful to be able to see powdery snowflakes floating gently outside the window whilst we have our breakfast.

Location is fantastic - ski in ski out. It spoiled us for it makes us think that the idea of carrying our skis after an exhausting day back to lodgings further from the hotel is kind of torturous.

Will definitely restay. I'm missing Hirafutei already, especially the room...

Family has been going on snowboarding trips to Hakuba because of its proximity to family in Tokyo. This year we listened to everyone's recommendation to go the Niseko. So glad we did!

This hotel was highly recommended by a friend on Trip Advisor. We liked the idea of a ski-in/ski-out arrangement as my husband and older son are more adept at snowboarding than my younger son and I. We didn't want to suffer waiting in the cold nor did we want to ruin my husband and older sons's fun. What a relief that we could simply go to the hotel for an hour to re-energize then head out again. Because of this convenience, we were able to enjoy the slopes from opening to closing.

The staff service was exceptional. Special commendation goes out to Masa Yamao. He helped us figure out the laundry machine. He also called the restaurants to make sure they were open and had space for us.

Great breakfast buffet spread. Everyone in the family was pleased to eat what they preferred from vegetable salads, fresh fruit and yogurt to potato croquettes and bacon.

Despite all 4 of us being cramped in a tiny room and having to sleep on the floor (tatami) with Japanese futons, we loved the view from our room and the perk of having our own private onsen. If you are willing to pay double, then I suggest getting two Western style rooms if this arrangement does not work for you. It did get us some getting used to. This was to no fault of the hotel.

We all enjoyed our trip and we look forward to coming back next time!
