“One of the best in Niseko”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2014

We stayed at The Vale for our honeymoon for 10 nights. We had a suite, which meant our room was equipped with a full kitchen. Our room also came with a drying cupboard, luxury bathroom and a small living area next to the bed. I would say it was an extra large king room (not an apartment as such). All rooms also come with a downstairs storage locker for ski equipment.

The service was excellent (we were greeted by a chap from Brisbane) and the hotel was warm, modern and tidy. Our ski passes had already been organised when we arrived, and our luggage was already in our room (we sent this by Black Cat).

The hotel is located by one of the lifts and beginner ski area. To get to a decent part of the mountain you do have to catch a couple of lifts but that wasn't a problem. We would often come down for lunch and head back up again. The hotel also has it's own grill restaurant, cocktail bar and rental store. It is also a 2 minute walk to a convenience store and deli market. You're also surrounded by lots of incredible restaurants. The Vale has grill which in our opinion was 'OK'. You can find better meals elsewhere but it was reasonably priced and was a good location to watch some of the olympic events.

We were on the 4th floor and had a view of Hirafu. It is on a pricey side but it's well worth it. Spend a bit more to get a room with your own onsen - I hear those were amazing.

If you're looking for a social place, this wouldn't be it. Most guests simply ignored me when I tried to smile at them, or they were just plain rude. This certainly attracts the 'snooty' type of skier.

We were very sad to leave! It was the best part of our month long trip (Japan - Whistler - Hawaii).

Room Tip: Try get a room above the third floor and with an onsen.

Stayed @ the vale for 10 nights, ski in ski out so ideal for accessing the incredible fields & the night skiing!! Close walking distance to all shops & restaurants. Outdoor parking for those who hire a car like we did. Impressive ski/board drying room with lockers for all the gear. The rooms are lovely with views of surroundings, tv, comfy bed, bath, microwave & fridge. Staff are friendly & helpful. If checking in late though self check-in with directions are provided. Buffet breakfast is nice though only negative is it's the same daily with quite a limited variety & I tried pancakes once but were dry. Overall beautiful Niseko is an incredible place & def will return!!

My husband and I stayed at the Vale Niseko in January. The location of this hotel is unbeatable. Right out of the door of the locker room and you are at the foot of a chair lift. This comes into its own for the night skiing which can be accessed from this lift.

The hotel itself is modern, comfortable and does all that you need for your time on the slopes. We were welcomed on arrival with a complimentary bottle of fizz as it was our honeymoon and it was most appreciated! Our room (203) was spacious and clean. Our room was a studio and had everything that you would need if you did want to do any cooking while you are there. The location of our room had a couple of faults in that we seemed to be on a floor with lots of families which you can sometimes hear from other rooms (in our case this may have been due to the conjoining door). It can also be a bit noisy outside as we were just over the reception area. We were also in a prime location to listen to the incredibly annoying tinkly tune from a nearby shop - if the management of the Vale have any sway over this it would be helpful if they could try to get that tune to stop for the sake of the sanity of those staying at the front of the hotel. If you can afford (& are prepared to pay the price!) for an apartment with your own Onsen, it would undoubtedly be worth it.

Of the few disappointments at the Vale the lack of monitoring of the Onsen and how people use it would be my biggest criticism. While the hotel does go as far to adhere to the traditional Japanese use of the Onsen and sets those rules out quite clearly, I am afraid that most guests don't. I think I used it only once where there weren't children using it as a pool (encouraged by their ignorant parents) or people chatting loudly with little regard to others.

We received complimentary breakfast tokens which were great and the hot breakfast was ideal before a day of boarding. The staff are all very friendly and willing to help if needed, but more importantly are happy to just let you get on with your holiday.

Overall, I enjoyed our stay at the Vale. It is a high standard of hotel, but I would recommend having a chat about which room you are allocated to, if possible.

Room Tip: Try to get a room which is on a higher level.

Hello, and thank you so much for taking the time to review The Vale Niseko.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, and very happy to hear you had a fantastic honeymoon - congratulations once again!

Our apologies for the noise on your level- as a family-friendly establishment we are often booked to capacity during school holidays, and subsequently the reception area receives more traffic. I am glad to hear this didn't have too much of an impact on your stay.

As for the annoying tinkly tune - we are aware of the Family Ace Chairlifts tune that can sometimes be heard and it is one of the few downfalls of being located in a convenient ski in / ski out location but it sounds like you may be referencing another tune, we will certainly look into this and investigate.

We are also sorry to hear your onsen wasn't the serene experience it should be - we conduct hourly checks of the onsen area, but moving forward we will urge staff to actually walk into the onsen itself to ensure everyone is adhering to proper onsen etiquette.

In response to allocation of rooms, please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly reservations team - we are more than happy to chat about the different types rooms, The Vale offers many options from rooms with Mt Yotei views, private onsen apartments, family friendly bunk or tatami rooms, and even hotel and studio rooms.

Thank you once again, we appreciate your feedback, and we do hope to welcome you back to The Vale Niseko on your next Niseko holiday, and we will endeavor as always to make your stay wonderful.

Kind Regards,

Lisa

These comments are based on a winter stay (they may not be relevant to a summer stay).

Spent ten days at The Vale on our 5th trip to Niseko.

You do get what you pay for - this is at the higher end of the price scale, but they do deliver.

We had a three bedroom appartment, which is really a two bedroom appartment and a studio appartment joined by a connecting door - but it felt like a true three bedroom appartment.

Furnishings were stylish, modern and comfortable, and the service is great. Lounge dining area was very large and able to comfortably host 15 or so people for some apres ski drinks. Bathrooms are beautifully appointed and we had plenty of drying space for ski gear in the drying cupboards.

Appartments themselves are quiet, with no noise coming from other appartments, or even from one room to the other within the appartment.

Location is ideal, being right next to the chair lift and the outlook can be beautiful - we had an appartment facing Mount Youtei and the view was fnatastic, especially when the sun broke through.

Only criticisms (and these are not major issues - just being picky - they would not affect our decision to stay there again):

1. stereo/entertainment system was very difficult to use - so if you are wanting to switch from TV to playing an ipod, you almost need an engineering degree - I actually gave up;
2. if you are partiuclar about your pillows, they only have one type of pillow - my wife had to end up using towels stuffed in a pillow slip;
3. the single beds are quite small;
4. if you are nosie sensitive, the snow plough hits the public carpark next to the hotel at around 6:00 in the morning and goes for at least half an hour.

Those aside, it is really a very well appointed, very nice, accommodation option, in a very good location, and we woudl easily stay there again.

The best places to stay are the ones that match service with facilities. The Vale at Hirafu in the Niseko United ski area is the best place to stay.
The building is in a perfect spot right next to a chair lift. It not only has a public onsen downstairs but some of the apartments have fab private onsens which are bliss!
There's a very good bar and grill, complimentary movies and books (I will be posting my borrowed copy of Under A Tuscan Sun back directly. Didn't get to finish as the snow was just too tempting! :) ). The lockers and ski storage is set up so that getting from your room to the slopes is a matter of five minutes (four of which are just getting your boots on). There is also very handy ski hire shop in the building, room service, fast and efficient room servicing and the rooms are perfect right down to the fab rice cookers!
But what makes The Vale not only a great place but THE place to stay in Niseko is the staff. Without exception they are a wonderful bunch of people. They solved problems, organised taxis, lift tickets, ski lessons, ski rental, found out information, booked restaurants and made us feel relaxed and very welcome.
I have to especially thank Jessica who went out of her way to make The Vale feel like home. It's the little things like a hand written note to say farewell that you remember. Also Graeme and Hien who organised the booking and made sure everything ran smoothly. The guys at the grill are fun and do a great job.
The snow is so good in Niseko that you'd go there to ski even if you had to stay in a leaky igloo, but seriously it's so much better when you can get out there first thing without a drama, ski all day then go back soak in your own private hot spring then relax with a beer or two at the grill. Heaven on a stick!

Room Tip: Get a room with a private onsen. You'll thank me after a big day in the fluffy powder!

Doesn't get any better than this in terms of ski in ski out accommodation. The whole place is fantastic; staff are very helpful and friendly and the rooms are comfortable with an edge of luxury. The onsen is top notch and should not be missed. Very happy with our stay.

We have just spent 7 nights in the Vale in an apartment with an onsen and it was bliss. Worth the extra cash if you can manage it but there is the public one downstairs but we didn't visit it. The Vale has everything a family needs, washing machine, dryer, drying rack, heated cupboard for jackets and gloves etc as well as ample living space. The decor is modern and very comfortable.
It was beautiful coming back each day to soak sore muscles in the onsen and sit back by the fire in our room. We didn't cook a lot but the kitchen was well supplied with equipment and little things like salt and pepper, dishwasher detergent, washing powder and cling wrap and foil etc. Just what you need and don't want to have to rush out and buy for a only few days stay.

Location great for ski school at Niseko base snow sports and locker room downstairs for boot and ski storage - ultra convenient.

We had to move rooms on the last night (we knew this at time of booking) and the staff kindly moved everything for us during the day, including swapping over our après boots in the ski lockers whilst we were out in the slopes.

Only negatives were the restaurant downstairs - service was a little slow but it is a very busy place, and kids nachos probably a little spicy for kids (I heard others sitting near us say the same thing so it wasn't just us). The snow plough to clear the car park each morning around 6am woke us but I understand it needs to be done ahead of the days activities, so some things you just have to accept. At least we were early to the slopes!! All in all a great holiday and we will definitely be back.
