Stayed at Pension Kanon for a week Feb. 2014. We enjoyed our stay and the small pension was clean and comfortable. It was a very good location close to the main intersection and very easy to walk to various locations in Hirafu. The breakfast was quite good and our room was very good for the price we paid especially compared with other accommodation in the area.

The best part of our trip was Morio and his family plus their happy retriever Muku. They run a great little hotel and provide excellent and very friendly service. He picked us up and gave us an orientation to the town and answered questions. He drove us to the mountain when we wanted to ski and even drove us all the way to the train station after our stay which was must more that we ever expected. The crab dinner looked very good and intimate, however we did not eat it, a very good value for Niseko which is quite expensive.

We would definitely stay here again!!

Room Tip: We had a room with two beds and it was quite big. Worked for us without issue. Note the bathrooms an...

This is the third time I've stayed with Morio-san at Kanon. His service as a host is top-level, from his communication through to taking care of all of your needs during your stay.

The location of the pension is perfect, in the midst of everything you need and only a five minute walk to get you on the first lift.

The rooms are basic, but perfect for budget-conscious travelers who are more about the onsnow experience than splashing money partying. Spacious rooms with enough area to hang out and relax.

Already looking forward to staying again.

My father and I stayed at this pension in January and were very happy with our choice. Kanon has two available accommodations: a backpackers lodge and a pension. We stayed in the pension. For the price this was an excellent value for everything we needed. Location was great. Centrally located in the Hirafu village close to restaurants, convenience stores, and about 5-10 minute walk to the gondola or visitor center.
Our room was simple but cozy and had everything we needed. Warm comfy bed, TV, WiFi, shared bathrooms. Breakfast included was nice and included mainly western style choices and enough food to get plenty full before a day of skiing. Great view of the trees and snow from the breakfast area as well. It never seemed overcrowded because I don't think the pension isn't huge and probably doesn't accommodate more than 15-20 guests so it was a great place to relax after a long day. If you're looking for a more lively place to get rowdy and party, looking at you Aussie folk ;-), I'd stay somewhere else.
The best part about this place was the owner Morio. He is very friendly and accommodating to any requests. We had good email communication before arrival and he was prompt to pick me up the day I arrived and sure to arrange transport back to the airport when it was time to leave. Also giving rides to the lifts, offering lift discounts, and other helpful tips. His family also prepares an awesome crab dinner at night that is highly recommended!
Niseko is an awesome place! Respect the culture and people and enjoy some of the best powder skiing in the world.
We will definitely stay at Pension Kanon next time we are in Niseko! Thanks Morio!

I stayed here during early January 2014, and had a fantastic time.

The lodge has a very homely feeling. Breakfast (toast, eggs, ham, cereal, fruit, coffee, etc.) is served each morning in the restaurant, and is always of good standard. Rooms are all decent sized, and there is a separate shed for skis, and boot room. There is also two washing machines and powder available.

The pension is located near the upper village of Hirafu, within close proximity to various bars (Big Foot Bar directly opposite), restaurants and shops. This made it easy to navigate during a night out with new and existing friends. In terms of closeness to lifts, it is approximately a 5 minute walk to a small lift, however most mornings we were given a lift by the owner right to the gondola lift!

The only downside is that there is no common area/bar to meet fellow guests easily, however it is easy enough to meet many fellow Aussies over beers, darts and pool at the numerous pubs in town.

Highly recommend this for the budget conscious traveller, we had a great time and hope to visit again soon!!

Great value. Generous breakfast buffet servings. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful, made us feel right at home. They were also very flexible and accommodating with our needs in terms of payment and change in travel dates. The walls are a tad thin so you can hear whats going down the hall. We stayed in a very cosy traditional room with comfortable futons. Relatively close walking distance to lifts. They even gave us rides in the morning to the gondola which is further away. This being my 5th trip to Hirafu I'd highly recommend it for value.

I lived at this house for a couple of years in the nineties. These are great people and the place is beautiful. Architecturally designed and very tasteful. The view from the dining room of the white birch trees and creek behind the house is beautiful. They have a mix of western style and Japanese style futon rooms. I prefer the Japanese style. One of the Japanese style rooms has a lovely view of the creek. Sachiko and Moorea are lovely people. Very generous and the food is awesome. The place would be less than five minutes from the beginner lift at Niseko Alpen. This lift takes you to the bottom of the first quad. Niseko Alpen is the part of niseko you want to be. Best terrain and village style here. They also have Log Kanon which is cheaper but equally well located. The pension is where you want to be if you want a Japanese experience. Almost all the other accommodation around the place is European or western style. Enjoy the pow and make sure you recuperate in an onsen après ski :)

We have stayed here twice now, once in 2010 and now in 2013 and both times was great. We had a double room this time with bunk beds and even a couch to sit on so plenty of room for ski clothes, jackets etc for the two of us. The rooms are very clean, but basic and the beds are super comfy. The breakfast is buffet and provides cereal, fruit, eggs, ham, potato, juice, toast, tea or coffee. Morio and his lovely family are so accommodating and will pick you up from the airport shuttle bus station in Niseko and drop you back. The price is so reasonable we just love staying here and can justify most nights out for dinner - with so a huge choice of restaurants in Niseko why not. I highly recommend staying in for the Kanon Crab Dinner, tastes good and good value too! Need to book though they get busy! Muku is the friendliest dog and makes you feel like you're home! Can't wait to go back. Thank you again Morio!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road, it can get noisy at night when people are coming home from late n...
