“Adequate but rather tired looking”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

Spent 2 nights in October 2013. Glenorchy is surrounded by spectacular scenery at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu. Lots of good walking tracks. We spent a day walking the first part of the Routeburn track, which was good. Glenorchy Cafe highly recommended for breakfast and lunch. Motel room was clean, simple but adequate, with well equipped kitchen for self catering, and a comfortable bed. There were no facilities for hanging clothes. The laundry facilities were out of order. Overall the Motel and room were rather tired looking. The owner was friendly and very helpful with advice on walking tracks

It was as the other reviews said it would be. Good. As a motel it is very simple, basic kitchen and bathroom, everything was clean and worked. I recommended it if you a planning a couple of days in glenorchy. Simple but effective.

We stayed 3 nights at the Mt Earnslaw motel in November 2013 as an extension to our Queenstown holiday. Glenorchy is a small quiet town with some magnificent views and provides a great base for some wonderful walking tracks, including the Routeburn track. My partner and I did the first day of the Routeburn as a day trip and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our room at the motel was spacious and clean. The kitchen was well equipped for us to self-cater during our stay, although the room doesn't have a table to eat at (it does have stools at the counter and chairs and a table outside instead). As we had booked and paid before we arrived, we were largely left to ourselves (which we quite like), although the hosts were available if we needed them. The rooms are serviced daily, although for our short stay we probably would have preferred if they weren't.
Overall, we had a very relaxing couple of days and would definitely return if we had the chance.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Mt Earsnlaw Motel in February. Found it to be quiet, clean and comfortable. It's a small place so little noise from other guests. Friendly owner and room well-euqipped. Glenorchy is a delightful community an hour's drive and a world away from Queenstown. Surrounded by magnificent scenery and at the end of a superb (scenic-wise!) road alongside the lake. Everything is within walking distance - we ate at the small hotel one day. During our stay we joined the Dart River Safari (recommended) and also walked from the end of the unsealed road to Lake Sylvan - miles from anywhere, and we had superb views of a NZ Falcon sitting in a tree close to us. Magic!

My wife and i stayed at the Mt Earnslaw Motel in April 2013 for 2 nights. We had no complaints with the room/facilities. Free parking, washing machine and dryer take $1 coins ($3 for washing machine and $4 for dryer, clothes horse available) No smoking inside units. Small table and chairs outside of units to use.

The room was clean and had a huge comfy bed, T.V., kitchen, toilet/shower, couch, hair dryer, microwave and heat pump. The owner was helpful and has $1 coins should you need to do washing etc. great for $110 - $120 a night

Glenorchy is a small place so there is no need to drive anywhere once you have checked in. 2 pubs/meals only a 3 minute walk away and the lake just 5 minutes walk.

We enjoyed our comfy stay here and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose either room 3 or 4

Quiet, very clean, comfortable bed & a great kitchen. Walking distance to everything as Glenorchy is a very small place. The new board walk is fantastic. Great coffee places. Lovely base to explore the huge amount of walking tracks. We drove to the start of the Routeburn. We walked up to the Lake Harris saddle on the Routeburn track & back in one day. Easy walking with a day pack, 22k return.

Room Tip: all good rooms, don't be put off by the weeds everywhere.

Spent 1 night here before our hike on the Routeburn track. The drive to Glenorchy is 45 mins from Queenstown & very scenic. The room was spotlessly clean with a comfy bed, hot shower and kitchen facilities if you need them (knives, toaster, plates, pots etc etc). Glenorchy is a very small town/village so you may like to stock up some food etc before leaving Queenstown. there is an easy 1 hour stroll just around the corner through the wetlands area. You can take a bus to Glenorchy from Queenstown & then a morning shuttle out to the Routeburn track if you don't have a car....when you are virtually at the unspoilt end of the planet...what else do you want.
