Ngutuni Lodge
Apart from the excellent game viewing prior to the start of the rains, service at Ngutuni was considerably poorer than in two other similarly priced hotels that we visited around Tsavo/Taita in the same week.

We fortunately arrived in Ngutuni just before the short rains, the grass was dry and water in both the conservancy and the neighbouring Tsavo park east was scarce. So the watering hole in front of Ngutuni lodge was well attended. We saw large numbers of elephants, and buffaloes as well as jackels, warthogs, zebra, giraffe and mongoose as well as many birds during our 2 day stay – all coming for water.

The rooms were clean and views from rooms 62&63 overlooking the water hole were excellent. Bed side lighting was poor. Other services were poor – meals for lunch and dinner with the exception of the soups, did not vary. Chicken or beef with 2 veg, rice or potatoes. No kenyan specialities available. The same tired cakes were trolleyed out after each meal. Access to good game viewing in the dining area are on a first come first served – regardless of length of stay. If you are late for a meal expect to view the table in front eating rather than the animals visiting the water hole.

Hotel rooms basic – if this hotel is full it could bne a noisy experience.

The rates for rooms and any extras including game drives are not clearly displayed either at the reception on in the information pack supplied in the rooms. In two other hotels visited on this trip, clear summaries of extras were available both at reception and in the rooms. One hotel even included walks and night game drives at no additional cost. In Ngutuni, we organised with the reception a guide to join us on a night game drive in our own vehicle with our own light and discussed tipping for the guide. Later we were charged for the game drive despite not having received advanced information. When we complained to the manager, he suggested that the receptionist should be sacked , an unsatisfactory response to poor management systems.

Bush walks not available here. Gift shop lacks imagination, selling the same old, same old….

Different rates charged for foreigners and locals.

Room Tip: If one has mobility issues – request a ground floor, close to the dining area. For good game viewin...

This Lodge is a paradise for Safari lovers. I could have stayed for much longer than the planned 3 days, the whole place is spacious and spotless. Highlight of the evening was spent sitting on the wide patio area, overlooking a magnificent watering hole. Here many animals came to drink, and as many as a thousand water buffalo descended at twilight, a wonderful sight. To watch Elephants guiding their young, and Zebra lining up to drink is just magical.
The staff here are so helpful and charming, doing everything in their power to make a stay memorable. I couldn't fault anything about this Lodge, I'd give it 6 stars.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms nearest to the watering hole are in the best position, but they all have good vie...

This was our third and final stop on a three night safari. The lodge is smaller than the others we visited but this doesn't affect the service, food or views!
The watering hole is so close that you can see every detail of the amazing animals that visit. The service is second to none and the staff happily opened the gift shop for me at 6am so I could get something I needed for the safari.
The food is well prepared and there is plenty of choice and free coffee is always available.
The rooms don't have mosquito nets but we didn't spot a single bug in our room, which was clean, cool and comfortable. There is no WiFi here so be prepared to be e mail free!
Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the watering hole and request a mosquito net, if you want one, as they ar...

Even before entering the park we saw an array of animals. Elephants, zebras, warthogs, giraffes and plenty more were seen at the watering hole on site. On arrival we were given a complimentary juice and were swiftly shown to our room (42) very close to the watering hole.

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, they gave us a tour of the room and advised about staying safe (and bug free) during our stay.

Food was exceptional. Buffet breakfast with a mix of set menus for lunch and dinner. All very fresh and strong in flavor. Apart from coffee and water included in the room, drinks were extra. Plenty of options.

I overheard a few people mention about savo west (a reserve that surrounds Ngutuni) and the apparent abundance of animals. Seeing animals on safaris is never guaranteed. I was overjoyed with the variety at this smaller reserve. We were even lucky enough to see lions.

I will never forget my stay at Ngutuni lodge. I would recommend this to anyone thinking about a Kenyan safari for a fraction of the price.

Room Tip: A low floor near the centre of the lodge - great views of the water hole

Having got our first love of Africa in Kenya some 25yrs ago, we now have our own Land Rover based in Namibia. We have covered 11 African countries, but were disappointed on our return to Kenya, finding it more expensive and facilities not as good as further South. But Ngutuni Safari Lodge was the exception, we took friends there twice and after they flew home we went back a couple more times. It was excellent value for money the wild life viewing from your bedroom veranda or the dining room was great, Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Giraffe, Jackal, various antelope & we saw our first Aardwolf one night. Food was good, freshly cooked pancakes for breakfast. Yes I would definitely recommend Ngutuni Safari Lodge. Graham Everett rovingbonkers

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor, as you have a good view of the water hole.

We stayed here a few days ago on our first night of a 3-day safari and it was definitely my favourite of the 3 resorts we stayed at.

The water hole is just brilliant and very close to the lodge. We saw loads of elephants playing in the water, giraffes, buffalo and warthogs all come down for a drink.

The staff were brilliant and the food was very tasty. Well worth a visit if you want to see the big safari wildlife in close range

Stayed here 1 night in june loved it wished we stayed longer. Sat in bed and watched the elephants cant get any better . Would go back everything was perfect. Arrived an hour late but were made welcome and had a meal cooked for us with a choice of main course . Room was clean and well furnished. Absolute bliss sat out at meal times watching the animals even a lion made an appearance.
