I stayed here for 5 nights. 4 nights in the very nice part of the hotel and one night in La Posada which is separate but part of the complex.

The main hotel was lovely, lots of space to walk around. The rooms were very nice and had air conditioning.

La Posada is very, very different. I would not have chosen to stay in this part of the complex. The first room smelt of mold. The second room smelt of something not so nice but with the patio doors open all day and night it was OK. NO air conditioning.

The food was OK.

Lesson DON'T stay on the Posada side of the building. I enclose a photo of the rating outside it. The nice part has a HR 4 star. This has 1 star. Although it looks like it is a different scheme. I tried to find out what they meant but the experience of the rooms is very different.

Room Tip: MUST stay in the 4 star part!!!!!

I stayed here as part of a group booking for an English immersion programme and the setting was ideal for these purposes. There were plenty of areas in and around the hotel to sit and chat and a nice bar area serving coffee and drinks. My room was spacious with its own balcony (and view of the mountains) and a big bathroom with a great shower. The hotel was clean and well looked after and the food was very good. I would say though that if you were coming here for a holiday there is not much to do in the little town itself. Segovia is only about 15 minutes away and is well worth a visit.

I have just returned from a 5 night break here with an English immersion program and I am happy to say it is a lovely hotel.
The bar, restaurant and general hotel areas are clean and well managed.
The room was delightful with a bath, shower and a balcony. There was even a sofa in the room so you could literally chill out.
The room was well attended by the cleaning staff whom always made the room smell lovely.
The area itself was convenient and only around 10 minutes drive from Segovia (there is a bus service).
All in all, I would stay here again.

I tried very hard and did a lot of research to find a quiet romantic hotel for my husband and I's 25th wedding anniversary. I obviously missed the review which stated how noisy this hotel is. We booked for two nights, the Friday and Saturday, along with half of Madrid. There is absolutely no sound proofing in the way of rugs or carpets in either the rooms or corridors. On the saturday morning we were exhausted as our room was next to the lift, room 20, beautiful room, lovely terrace but we may as well have been asleep in the corridor, dreadful. We changed rooms, sadly it made little difference, pepole, children and babies up until two, three in the morning. Breakfast day one(our anniversary) was a dreadful experience, it was absolute chaos, no where to sit, no plates, a quque for the coffee machine which incidently served luke warm coffee, I was nearly in tears. We booked half board, do not do this. The restaurant is beautiful but the lighting is very very bright,, the alacarte menu is much more extensive and you can choose your own wine, otherwise you are given a bottle of just ok house wine, we ordered our own. You have to pay a supplement to have either lamb or suckling pig. I have to say I had the suckling pig, it was fantastic, wonderful. For breakfast next day, we ate in our room, much more civilised, still had warm coffee but at least it was peaceful. So if you must stay here, use the ear plugs provided and try to stay mid week, or at least check they havn't a wedding party! We will not be back.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

I stayed in the Posada at El Rancho as part of an organised English conversation programme for Spaniards. It was a great venue for this - the rooms were very comfortable, there were good communal areas for group activities as well as places to sit, drink and walk for the individual conversation sessions. There is a small gym and a very inviting looking infinity pool (though it shuts mid-Sept, as did the small spa). It looked like the main El Rancho rooms were more up market that the Posada, but it was still very nice.
The only problem was the food - there was a lot of it and I couldn't resist it!!! The kitchen made up some great vegetarian dishes for me. It's clearly a popular venue for Madrillenos coming out for weekend family get togethers. There are also quite a few other restaurants and bars in the town.
However, the town is small and somewhat quiet. There are mountains around but I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you have transport or a reason to remain in the town.
Segovia is nearby and definitely worth a visit.
If the location suits you, I would definitely recommend El Rancho to stay, or just to eat at. They have a master chef of the traditional dishes of suckling pig and baby lamb too.

Room Tip: For the Posada, some face onto the street, some onto the gardens. People in the front rooms did not...

I spent five nights here in April with the Vaughan Systems group so my comments apply to a group booking and may not pertain to individual travellers. Other reviews have mentioned the bathroom amenities such as bath salts. My room, #14, had nothing but shampoo - No shower cap, tissues, etc but it was a fine bathroom with a big tub, excellent shower and good lighting. There was only one mini bar of soap so I requested another so that I didn't have to move it from sink to shower. No bidet. The room itself was small, no sofa, etc which others mentioned but it was very clean, cheerful and pleasant. It looked out over a rooftop toward the pool. There were a couple of bathrobes in the closet but only 4 hangers - pretty skimpy for a double room. (I probably could have asked for more.) I like a room with a comfy chair for reading, which this did not have, but there was a desk and desk chair. The room to my right, #16, had a deck with table and chairs. There obviously is quite a difference in size of the various rooms and the amenities provided. The breakfast was lacking in variety but ample, with coffee and hot milk in individual pots on the tables, not that awful stuff sitting in a big canister. The rolls, bread and croissants were good. The group meals were pretty good, particularly the desserts. The service, given the problems our group presented with 7 people needing special diets, was very good. The staff and kitchen tried their best to accommodate all the special requests. I had heard from many friends in Madrid that the restaurant is well known for its excellent roast suckling lamb and pig so was looking forward to trying it but unfortunately that was not part of the group menu until the final lunch and then there was a 15 euro supplement. Again, I'm mentioning a group sponsored stay where menu prices are prenegotiated so what we were served may not have been the same as the fare served in the regular restaurant. The included red wine was quite acceptable.

Room Tip: Ask for a deck.

This last trip I decided to stay just 10 kms away from Segovia at El Rancho de la Aldehuela. It is part of a wider property including shops, restaurante and a lower end hotel, La Posada. Rooms are huge, nicely decorated and some of them include a wide terrace with country views. Prices are more than reasonable and breakfast is incliuded. The restaurant is OK, serving roasted lamb and pig. Just make sure that you get a table in the frst dining room: the rear one is usually full of uncontrolled todlers. Breakfast is powerfull. The lobby floor bar is a nice venue to have a late gin&tonic after dinner. The surrounding areas include a nice village (Sotosalbos) with an excellent romanesque church including a small museum which is worth a visit.
