The hotel was very nice, the mini zoo was also welcoming.
I enjoyed my stay. Complimentary breakfast was good. the room was good. Staff was very friendly and the place is situated abt 7-8mins (car) to pigenon pt beach.

Room Tip: stay to the front of the hotel as the back has the mini zoo

my family and i got put into this hotel after our flight was delayed over night. whilst the room and service was perfectly fine, the miniture 'zoo' was so appauling that the whole experience was ruined. the hotel advertises the chance to see exotic animals, when in actual fact they hold distressed animals in disgusting conditions. they had little food and the cages were rediculously small. the thing that upset me the most was the two monkeys in a cage that isnt even fit for a bird. they looked so confused and angry, one even lashed out at us through the cage. i was reduced to tears because i was so upset. this hotel needs to be reported and shut down for animal abuse.

Room Tip: just dont go here

Having spent 3 weeks in Tobago with a group of others on a field course to do with my uni studying the fish and reefs, our flight home was delayed overnight and we were shoved into this hotel. At first it seemed okay and check in wasn't too bad. We then went to our rooms to find 4 of us has to share between 1 large-ish double bed and a single, bearing in mind we were a group of mixed sex.

We then had a look around the hotel to find that the pool was a mess with bits floating around, i have no idea when it was last cleaned! Further to our disgust we came across what they called a 'miniature zoo' which housed animals in appalling conditions! The cages were ridiculously small with the animals looking very stressed and ill. 2 monkeys were in a cage similar to the sort of size you would house a small bird in and rabbits were crammed into cages with no secure floor or bedding and some of them were clearly dead with their companions forced to lay over the dead bodies. The macaws also looked very ill and were in cages far to small for them to fly around in. To make things worse, when we spoke to a lady at reception she seemed to not care at all and just replied 'we will take your concerns into consideration'.

Later in the evening dinner was supposedly served at 7 and we ended up waiting around until nearly 9, in the mean time no member or staff came out to tell us what was going on! During dinner water was available but it consisted of a waitress was walking round with the jug. We were sat at the back of the restaurant and she did not come over once during our meal, despite attempts to get her attention.

All I can say is I am glad we were only there for one night and I would never ever recommend staying here to anyone!

After a cancelled flight a group of us were put up here for the night, and here is what we found...
Rooms for 4 people consisting of a double bed and a single bed.
A pool littered with leaves and large palm leaves at the bottom.
Poor service where dinner was said to be at 7pm, and wasn't served until 8.30pm. During this time we were told we couldn't be let into the dining room and wait but had to stay outside in the heat, no great when we were already annoyed from the flight. When complaining about the service the staff just smiled and shrugged us off and offered no explanation as to why the food was so delayed. The manager did try to appologise but belatedly, over the next days breakfast.
But the worst part was the so called "petting zoo" which is basically a postcard in animal welfare abuse. Two monkeys kept in a cage no bigger than an average cupboard displaying clear signs of stress and under-stimulation. And several caged birds, again with no stimulation and feathers plucked out through stress and fighting due to the poor living conditions. There were also essentially battery farmed rabbits, with up to 4 or 5 rabbits per tiny cage, one of which had a dead rabbit crushed against the side of a cage which was not removed, allowing the others to live around it.
I would never reccomend this hotel to anyone and would rather the world boycotted it completely until they realise what they are doing is wrong!

After having stayed in Tobago for 3 weeks supporting animal and reef conservation I was forced into staying in this hotel due to a delayed flight (and it being our airline's choice). Walking around the hotel my group came across the 'zoo'. This 'zoo' is advertised by the hotel as an attraction, a way to see exotic animals... what it actually is is a variety of animals squashed into ridiculously small, uncomfortable cages being deprived of all natural behaviours and freedoms.

Rabbits were 'displayed' in cages similar to that of battery chickens with no free access to water, food and some even shared cages with other dead rabbits. All the parrots showed clear signs of distress with missing patches of feathers and one even having a golf ball sized tumour in place of its right eye.

Most upsetting of all, two monkeys were placed in a cage clearly too small made out completely of wire giving no comfort. The monkeys showed repetitive distressed behaviours and were subject to teasing from other guests. When reporting our concerns to the staff they just didn't show any care and it was clear that no action would be taken.

It doesn't take anything more than common sense to see these animals are suffering. Do not support this hotel.

A large group of students, among other tourists, were placed in Rovanel's after our flight home had been delayed. We were first concerned with the room arrangements; being split into fours to share one double bed and a single. The dinner was also two hours later than we had been informed, the staff seemed not to know or care that they were late and gave us no feedback as to when the meal would be, leaving all of their guests sat outside the restaurant until 9pm.
The worst aspect of the experience however was the miniature 'zoo'. There were a number of small cages located around the hotel housing beautiful macaws and parrots that made almost constant noise. On further investigation this is most likely due to the disgusting conditions that they were being kept in. The cages were incredibly small and the birds clearly showing signs of neglect with many abrasions and feathers missing. The far end of the hotel housed a number of other cages, wire mesh housings no bigger than a metre across holding monkeys, squirrels and other birds. The monkeys in particular showed how awfully they were being treated; showing distressed behaviour such as banging the side of the cage and hiding. A local boy was also witnessed teasing them with food.
The 'zoo' also housed a number of cages holding rabbits, agouti and capybara. A number of each were kept in cages no bigger than 2ft wide with no signs of food or water, one of the rabbits was also suspected dead. The entire area stank.
When complaining to the hotel staff we were appalled that they showed no concern for the animals despite being fully aware of our own concerns. The staff in general did not respect our opinions or provide us with the correct customer service.
Do not stay in this hotel. It is disgusting to think that such a large and apparently respected hotel are actually getting away with such animal cruelty.
