We stayed here for a week whilst diving with R&Sea, arranged by Oonas as a club trip. We were a large party of 12 so nearly took over the place, but the staff made our stay a pleasant one, with Troy expertly managing a lunchtime mix-up and the multi-tasking KP providing all round entertainment and bar services in the way only a sleep-deprived local could. They're both an asset to the Inn. The rooms were basic with some interesting tiling techniques in the ensuite, but overall clean, regularly serviced and the all important air conditioning unit was flawless.

Notes for the traveller would be to take insect repellent and a four way adapter or two with USA style adapters, and make sure all your stuff can run off 120v. There's no tea/coffee in the room, but free 24hr tea/coffee facilities are by the pool which was clean and warm. Take factor 50 too, the sun is HOT in Tobago!

Overall I'd recommend them and would use them again if travelling to the South of the island.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are away from the pool so quieter if a group is in. The corner garden rooms (5 and...

We first travelled to Tobago in 2001 and have been returning ever since, sometimes twice a year. We have always stayed at the Toucan Inn and still love it. We always go for Christmas and New Year, it's a wonderful place to see the New Year in, really can't imagine spending it elsewhere.

The Toucan Inn only has 20 rooms, it has a very friendly feel and over the years we have made many friends who we have holidayed with and met in the UK. The rooms are all clean with comfortable beds and air-conditioning (a must in the Caribbean). They are simply furnished and some may miss having a TV, it doesn't bother us. We always stay on a bed and breakfast basis, as it gives us the option of eating at other places, having said that we stayed for 21 nights this time and dined at Bonkers 14 of those nights, so that says a lot about the menu and food. Breakfast is also good with a local breakfast everyday as well as normal cooked breakfast.

It is located close to the airport within easy walking distance of Store Bay beach. We always have a car purely for convenience, it's not essential as Taxis are readily available and Mr B is always on hand to organise trips out and does a regular trip each week to Sunday School.

We are returning again in December, this time for 4 weeks! Can't wait!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are preferable as they are much larger and quieter.

It is not the most luxurious with an immediate casual feel. The rooms are large and clean, the beds really comfortable and the aircon efficient. We usually ate in the restaurant because the food was excellent value and really tasty and the huge cocktail menu a place for (careful) experiment. As divers we were welcome (not always the case) and the staff were helpful and friendly. It is well situated for Crown Point and the taxi services were excellent. We liked the relaxed laid-back atmosphere in Tobago in general and the Toucan Inn in particular. The few maintenance issues I would expect to see sorted out in the off season and the only reason for not returning is the number of other places I still want to dive before I'm too old!

We have been going to the lovely Toucan Inn, Tobago since 1998. (There were no street lights, no buses, very few shops. the people were lovely ) we fell in love with this hotel and Tobago then and even now, we love it all just the same.

Yes it may need upgrading a little, the rooms are not luxurious, but the beds are clean and comfortable,(and we have slept in most of them) but the comfort of beds, is a very personal thing. What suits one, may not suit another.

The rooms are cleaned each day, usually by the lovely Nechelle, who is very conscientious, also very quiet, not surly, just quietly doing her job.

The restaurant is usually so busy, that even though we were staying at the hotel, we had to book a table every night. The restaurant is also used, to a large degree, by many locals.(always a good sign)!!!

Over the 16 years we have been visiting Toucan Inn, we have taken a huge number of friends, also sent friends who wanted to experience the same pleasure we had experienced. Every single one of them have become, Return Guests, and will continue to enjoy it as much as we do.

The hotel manager Troy, is a gem, he will do anything to make sure all the guests are happy and comfortable, the guests are his priority.

Lisa, who is in charge of admin, is wonderful and takes her job very seriously, she will address any problem you may have, and do absolutely anything to put things right.

We have always stayed on an All Inclusive basis at the Toucan Inn, and can honestly say, we have never, ever had a bad meal, and the choice of menu has always been really good, very tasty, where the idea that frozen food is served came from , goodness knows, we know for a fact that is not the case.

The statement that people who stay in garden Rooms on the front of the hotel, would have sleep disturbed is garbage. We always stay in room 4 and not once have we been disturbed by traffic, or any other noise. But Ear Plugs are readily available in most stores these days, maybe pack some 'just in case' And who wants to go on holiday to the Caribbean, and sit in their room watching television,???

All the staff are very good at their jobs, and from the owners to the cleaning staff, yes they are there to do a job, but they are not there to perform. There are the Jokers, like KP an all rounder, will do all he can to deliver your food to your table with a joke. Oliver, although just starting his career in Hotel Management, is a great lad, we spent many an evening chatting to him, great personality, doing a great job. Cherry Ann is a great asset, a supervising waitress who will help you to choose your breakfast.

The damage to one or two of the pool tiles, was caused when one of the EXPERIENCED divers dropped a Full Air Tank into the Pool. To repair this means, to close the pool, drain it, repair the damage, it could take a week or more for this. Any volunteers to have a weeks holiday in a hotel with no Pool ???? I think not and it certainly is not a health hazard as it is.

You have everything you need in the Crown Point area of Tobago, that's another reason to holiday at Toucan Inn, it's just a short walk to Store Bay beach, and Beach Stores, also the food stores, where you can buy the Homemade Takeaways, and around 15 minute steady stroll to the very lovely Pigeon Point Beach resort.

Another great thing about Tobago, you can walk out of the hotel, just to take a walk, up to the bank, to shops, to bars or as mentioned before, to the beaches. We have always done this, and never had a problem. The locals almost always say Hello, good morning, good evening, but then we always give them a smile, and it costs nothing, but means a lot.

I could not help but notice that one or two of the negative reviews, seem to have been copied, as a child would maybe in the classroom. Hmmm I wonder !!!!

For the benefit of all at the Toucan Inn, keep doing what you are doing, you all make the Toucan Inn, the place to be in Tobago. We will see you all soon, and look forward to it just as much as ever.

We recently stayed here for a week as we were also diving with R&Sea Divers who are based onsite.

Good points:
- divers hotel, with dive operation onsite plus communal areas around the pool to sit and chat with other divers at the end of the day
- 2 excellent staff members - Troy, the GM, who is incredibly polite and helpful and KP who is just hilarious!
- large room and bathroom (we were in 7) with large comfy bed...but it also features in bad points!
- room had a air con (although it was nosy!)

Bad points:
- its very tired, the hotel needs a good overhaul - while it is basic (which is fine with us) those basics need to be kept on top of
- our bed was about to collapse and was filthy underneath
- we tested the housekeeping by leaving a leaf between the bed and the door in plain site - it stayed there all week!
- no facilities in the room like a kettle (although there were communal facilities by the pool)
- mosquito issue - take lots of sprays/roll ons and allergy tablets
- always seemed to be out of particular food or drinks
- staff (except for Troy and KP) need a serious lesson in customer service - a simple smile goes a long way
- the pool needs resurfacing on the bottom seeing as I cut my foot on the patch which is rough
- don't waste your money eating there in the evening; look around

I agree with another review in that it would be better marketed as a backpackers hotel. Its surprising this is owned by two English guys as I would have expected better.

Generally we found Tobago to be unfriendly, lazy (not in a good way), unwelcoming, dreary, expensive despite people telling us it was much cheaper than other islands. We then went onto Barbados which was completely the opposite; friendly, helpful people, and the same money as Tobago! Someone on Barbados did say to us that the attitude to foreigners in Tobago is largely poor due to their lack of reliance on tourism as they are attached to Trinidad who have oil and gas.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are better and quieter

Second stay at Toucan Inn! I must say I only returned because of the location, restaurant and urgency. I've reviewed the place before and it wasn't good either. WHY DID I RETURN???

PROS: LOCATION, CLEAN, DAILY HOUSEKEEPING!

CONS: NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, CARE, ATTENTION, THE POOL IS FILTHY & NO SAFETY.

What's scary is the manager is the only nice person! How can someone who is sooooooooooooo nice (tooooooo nice) manage a property and no one else employed there is??? Is he really nice??? Is it a show? I don't know! Firstly I'm a local and booked the day before due to urgency arrived and met Lisa who has been there years I remember her from my every visit to Tobago as I like the restaurant. The manager has also been there sometime and the Kitchen lady. I really don't know if its a Family owned place why the manager can't talk to the staff or what??? Lisa has changed a BIT as she seemed a BIT better than the last stay nothing to talk about. The pool rooms are really small, but for a two night stay you can manage! Our intention was to extend, but we checked out and went to another place. They do not maintain the pool and the restaurant was CLOSED!!! That really pissed me OFF, upon check in we were told the restaurant would be closed for the next two days and we were staying two days. To mu SURPRISE the next morning the white folk were being served! I thought WTH??? When my fiance asked he was told they have one item on the menu and the white folk wanted that...........BEANS AND TOAST! We quickly left. There was a sweet waiter of black ethnicity and he had a Rastafarian hair style or braids. That was the highlight of the stay. On the day of departure our safe locked that's when the manager appeared and it was as though he came from a MARRIOTT in the U.S, HIS SERVICE WAS SUPERB. WHY CAN'T THE OTHER ASSOCIATES LEARN SOMETHING???

I traveled with my girlfriend to Crownpoint in March 2014. We stayed for two weeks in a garden bungalow. Our expectations are not too high, since we just need a place to sleep and stay outside the whole day. We normally stay a hostels.

rooms are ok (AC, no TV, WLAN, very simple interior) BUT the bathroom has louvered doors, which gives you no privacy if you travel as a couple (noise).
cleanliness: good house keeping, rooms are cleanded every day
staff: varies from nice to actually very cocky.

My conclusion is, that the Toucann Inn could be a very nice place if they took more care about some details. In the moment I advice you to simply book another apartment or hotel.

Room Tip: take one of the garden bungalows that are not next to the main street, or better take another hotel
