We own a property near Arenal, and when we had no water for several days at our house, the folks at the Gingerbread were very helpful and flexible in last-minute juggling of their reservations to provide a room for us. We have stayed at the Gingerbread previously, and will definitely stay there again if we need a room.

Exceedingly unfriendly host. The hotel was closed when we showed up for our reservation. Was not advised in advance that credit cards were not accepted. Overcharged for a bottle of mediocre wine. The bathroom drinking glass had been used as an ashtray. Television did not work. A very unpleasant experience. We left after one night.

Eyal and his staff are wonderful, they made us feel as if we were part of the family during our stay. The food is prepared with love and care and you can taste it. We had dinner and stayed one night in the beautiful 'Wine Cellar' casita, the conversations we had with other diners (and Eyal) after dinner made us realize how special the place is...it's perfect. Eyal's food is as delicious as my absolutely favorite restaurant at home in Ohio.I highly recommend the Gingerbread for dinner and staying the night, it really cant get more special than this place. The breakfast that is included with your stay is amazing as well.

Room Tip: Stay in a casita, the showers are open to the rainforest and the rooms feel like your own little pri...

Difficult where to start... Eyal has amazing service, most delicious food we ate in Costa Rica!
The rooms really special design.
There is a view to Arenal lake, and very quiet place.
Need a car or cab to get there.

Basic, comfortable rooms with a lovely view of Lake Arenal, but the best reason to stay is so you can relax and enjoy wine and drinks with your dinner at the amazing restaurant here. Less than an hour's drive from here to La Fortuna on a paved road. Really great breakfast included.

Room Tip: Three rooms above the restaurant, plus two casitas. Rooms upstairs have balconies with a lovely view...

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and had dinner both nights. The room was very clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Jungle Room which has a nice balcony overlooking the lake.
The highlight of our stay was dinner. The first night we filled up before the entree so we planned better on the second night.
We sat at the bar and talked with the local ex-pats. The food and the atmosphere are excellent. There was no there food on our trip in CR that compared to the food here.

Eyol (owner of the place) is the man! I got a recommendation from a business partner to stay here with 7 of my friends and Eyol took care of us. We all stayed at the hotel and had, by far, the best meal of our trip and a very memorable evening hanging out with Eyol. If you're in this area, gotta try to stay and eat at Gingerbread. The most original rooms in the area, for sure and very clean.

Room Tip: The rooms not connected to the restaurant are by far the best but the more basic rooms in the hotel...
