Sandra's house is within 5 minute drive to Nuevo Arenal downtown, which is a small chic town 30-40 minutes away from La Fortuna. Nuevo Arenal has all the business establishments like grocery stores, restaurants, artsy craft stores and a really good German Bakery cafe. We enjoyed this quiet, less touristy town. The road between La Fortuna and Nuevo Arenal is pretty curvy (but with good black top pavement, not so west of the town). It is better to avoid driving this stretch at night when it is more likely to rain. It was initially hard to find this house partly due to the fact that Costa Ricans do not label their streets nor use the conventional addresses. Phone navigation did not show marked streets. Coming from westbound route 142, we missed the dirt road turn-off right before German Bakery. From there follow the green sign of Tinajas. The view from this house is lovely, overlooking the lake and some woods. Alexandra was an amazing hostess. The fact that she speaks fluent English was a bonus for us. She also runs a transport service so she gave us lots of local tips and told us who to turn to for our laundry need. She summoned a plumber to fix our shower problem twice during our three days stay. The kitchen was sparsely furnished but she was responsive to our requests and immediately went about to make our stay comfortable. The place was pretty clean. Beds in both bed rooms were comfy. The only inconvenience we had was that we did not have a fridge. Instead we had food stored in her fridge (she lives next door) and troubled her each time we made breakfast or dinner. Hopefully she would have it fixed for future guests. We would definitely stay with Sandra if we travel to this area again. Her hospitality and kindness are the highlight of our trip.
