Description: Opened in 2013, Tinajas Arenal is a family project perfectly situated at the edge of the Arenal Lake. Our family settled in Arenal many years before Lake Arenal was created in 1974 and Nuevo Arenal was established. With a green organic garden. Tinajas is a wonderful place to eat while traveling this beautiful area, with glorious sunsets and a dock for boat access, this new lakeside retreat is a hidden gem. It is the perfect place to relax and take nice pictures of the lake and the sunset

“Can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

My husband and I were in Costa Rica for three weeks, and decided to try this restaurant for our 20th anniversary dinner. The setting is absolutely beautiful. We had the sea bass, and it was excellent. The service was good, and we had a wonderful evening. It is a little difficult to get to. Head out of Arenal on 142 toward La Fortuna. At the bottom of the hill, turn right and follow the signs. It is not far, but the road is a bit bumpy.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

After a long day of traveling, we weren't sure we wanted to venture too far for dinner but Tinajas was highly recommended to us so off we went. Everything about the place was perfect-setting, 180 degree view of the lake, food quality, presentation, and very reasonable priced. We will be back!!

“Best restaurant in Nuevo Arenal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

We stayed in Nuevo Arenal for 5 days on our recent trip to Costa Rica, and dined at all the local restaurants (including Gingerbread on the main road that everyone raves about - Gingerbread had wonderful food, but the prices were twice those of Tenajas). The food at Tenajas was delicious. The 3 of us ate there twice and sampled each other's dishes, so in all we tried 6 different dinners on their menu, and each one absolutely wonderful. And the setting is so sweet. You can linger there and gaze at the open, beautiful views, and if you arrive in the evening in time for sunset you're in for a special treat. This listing says it's vegan, but most of the dishes on the menu are of meat or fish, so that can't be right.

“Amazing restaurant, worth the drive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

The road less traveled can sometimes deliver the best results. This place has it all. Food, views and a true Costa Rica experience.

My favorite place in Arenal is Gingerbread, but for lunch or sunset cocktails this place rocks.

My only retreat was not finding it sooner.

“Great even during the day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

We stopped by here for lunch on our drive from Arenal to Guanacaste. Yes it is located a little out of the way but it was definitely worthy of the 10 minute detour. In rainy weather, 4x4 would be highly recommended.

We came around 11am and they were just setting up for the day which was not an issue since we wanted to sit outside anyway. The view plus the breeze combo is quite breathtaking. We enjoyed walking around their little garden and watching the birds.

The food was the freshest we had in Arenal. True definition of farm to table. The lettuce was so fresh. We shared a chicken wrap, so simple yet so delicious and fresh. The dessert, which was quite rare to come by in Costa Rica, was spectacular. We asked for the pineapple and banana foster (they can combine it for you). Very delicious.

Service is a little on the slower part but this is the place where you just relax and enjoy the view. A group came just right when we were leaving so the secret is out. I'd recommend this place highly, with or without the sunset view.
