We went there with my wife's cousin and her Italian husband in June. This little village have a fantastic view of the nearby valleys and mountains.
We had the 8 course menu at the restaurant. The food was excellent, well presented and one of the owners and the waiter explained us everything about the food they were serving. All paired with the right wine. It doesn't get any better.
They only serve local organic foods from small local suppliers. The wines also from Abbruzo region.
Really an experience to remember, will go there again hopefully next year
Abruzzo province is very underrated, out of the beaten path but so beautiful, very nice people and places to visit end enjoy from the seaside to the mountains

This hotel is located in a tiny village known for the well known hill top fortress overlooking the town and surrounding area.
While not luxe, the hotel has a gracious old time feel to it, and we enjoyed our stay there of 2 nights, enjoying the beauty and peacefulness of the countryside. The hotel's front desk manager, Maurizio, was a total delight...warm, always smiling and gracious, and extremely informative about things to do in the surrounding region. He even accompanied us to the local pharmacy, for help in purchasing some medications!

Room Tip: We opted for the superior rooms, which are the rooms with views over the mountains and countryside...

My husband and I spent 6 wonderful nights here and enjoyed it immensely. The hotel manager, Maurizzio spoke excellent English and was attentive to all our requests, including arranging for tours for us of the local sights. I was the only student that week for a hands-on cooking school experience learning the regional Abruzze cuisine that was first rate -- working side by side with the 2 very talented chefs. We ate all our meals at the hotel and found the food to be authentic and also inventive, highlighting regional food and local seasonal ingredients. Our accomodations were a large suite overlooking the town square and the picturesque valley below with vineyards, olive groves, wheat and all the way to the Adriatic Sea. It was a wonderful stay that we will never forget!

The hotel is quite good and has a wonderful view over the mountains. It has quite a history and shows its strong ties with the rest of the delightful little town. Incredible surroundings and plenty of things to do in the region. The restaurant is very good, serves creative dishes made with good ingredients. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have had in an hotel. Why not the "excellent" review? Two reasons: the fact that the hotel is right in the center of the town and obviously loved by the people of Civitella makes it well attended at night, not a good thing if you are tired, want to sleep early and your window is right over the bar. There is also a sound insulation problem between rooms. The food was missing just a tiny bit to be excellent with the exeption of the zuppetta al pecorino, with was definitely outstanding. The service was extremely good and friendly, really felt like home. A must go if in the area or even on purpose

Ok we just checked in yesterday, a few days early for the cooking class. But it was Valentine Day and we had an opportunity to enjoy the prix fix gourmet dinner. Seven courses and all paired with wine. The food and wines were typical of the Abbruzzo region. A great meal, great service and very memorable. After the dining experience we went to our room, also five star comfort and class. Next day a walk around the town inside the gate was like a step back 4-500 years. Beautifully maintained buildings and streets contribute to the beauty of the largest fortress in Europe. This is really a must experience in Abruzzo.

This hotel is a culinary paradise and gate into the real italian experience. The staff is warm and friendly, as well as everyone in the little town. The food at this hotel is the main attraction, a culinary dream and the pricing is very reasonable for the high quality of food and service. The hotel has a great wine list and a staff that is passionate about the Abruzzo region. It was a pleasure to see the region through the eyes of the waitstaff and especially one of the hotel directors Maurizio. The location is breath taking, with sunrise and sunset viewable from your room, over the Gran Sasso mountains. We went hiking each day, it's also a great area for road riding or mountain bike riding. A must see is the fortress on top of the town. Definitely get a car to visit the area, spend 2-3 nights on your trip through italy, and then the rest of the time you will compare everything to Civitella.
