From the moment we arrived at sunflowers B&B, (tired and stressed having missed our flights from the UK) Sue & Glyn did their upmost to make us feel relaxed and part of the family. We stayed in a very spacious, immaculately clean room on the first floor with its own en-suite (shower, loo, bidet, sink & heated towel rail) and a four poster bed. The room also had a beautiful day bed which could double up as a child's bed. Towels were changed and the room was serviced daily.
We dined with Sue and Glyn for three of our five nights, enjoying fabulous four course, home cooked meals. Wine and/or beer was included for an amazing 18 Euros per head. The cheese course was to die for!
Guests are welcome to enjoy Sue & Glyn's lovely garden - we spent several evenings on the swing seat reading our books and enjoying a glass of wine.
Breakfast was a very relaxed affair. Freshly baked croissants, fruit, cereal, toast etc. We were welcome to help ourselves to tea, coffee, juice etc. if Sue or Glyn were not around.
Sunflowers has its own private swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Complementary beach towels were provided. The B&B is in a pretty remote location with the nearest village, Paille, being about a 15 min walk away. There are a few shops in Paille and a bar which also serves lunch. The small town of Aulnay is about 3 miles away where there are Banks, bars, restaurants and a better selection of shops. The absolutely beautiful St Jean D''Angely is about 8 miles away and is well worth a visit as was Cognac & Rocheforte.
Be warned, being rural France, most restaurants only serve lunch between 12.00 and 2.00 and you have to travel to the larger towns to find somewhere to eat on a Sunday.
If you want to get away from it all, be guests in a beautiful old French house, laze around a pool and be thoroughly indulged, this is the place for you! We definitely will be going back for more!!
