We had a lovely 2 night stay at Posada Cavieres. As many other reviewers have said, Hans could not have been more helpful, arranging bikes, taxis and wine tours, and cooking an excellent asado that we washed down with plenty of his wonderful Malbec made from his own vines. There is also plenty to do locally but why hurry when you can relax by the pool with Tommy the sheepdog. Definite 5 stars.

As other reviewers have already noted, Hans and have wife could not be more friendly or hospitable and the Posada is in a beautiful spot. Sitting in the garden in the sunshine is so relaxing and there are some great wineries a short cycle away (and one (Familia di Tomasso) even within walking distance). The olive oil Hans makes on site is fantastic too. Note that you have to be prepared to be sociable with the other guests - breakfast is set up with the idea that all the guests eat together.

My only quibble with this place was that although it's really nice, they also know how to charge for it. Including taxes a room works out at about USD150 per night (10% discount for cash) and they charge extra for the bike hire (not great bikes but they do the job). At those prices I would expect real luxury rather than rustic charm and I'm surprised other reviewers haven't mentioned this. The breakfast and bathrooms etc are nice, but not top-end (e.g. our shower ran between either too hot or too cold). Looks like they're very popular so maybe there's no need for them to reduce the rates but for me, it was very good but expensive.

Hi, thanks for the comments. I'm glad you mentioned our olive oil. The little area we are in is indeed the best place in argentina to get extra virgen olive oil. Seems we are in a climatic-geografic stretch that offers the best quality extra virgen olive oil. So we're very proud on that.
Tthe end of year is a very very busy time of year for us. Whilst other people have holidays or celebrate, we have to work double as no restaurants are open, employeees take their days of as well, wineries close, so no help on that side, shops close for extended periods, no school, so we have the kids as well full days. So we decided to have a higher price (from 139 to 150 USD) on the end of year for a week (between 23 december and 2nd of December). In the market (you can see on booking) Posada Cavieres is still one of the cheapest rural lodges (rural lodges have a lot of hidden costs: the outside premises consume most of our time and budget although you won't notice, it's a permanent maintance job, which I usually do when nobody's around). But we catered with unexpensive lunches and dinner (since we knew that either restaurants were closed or overbooked for the end of years holidays). So that compensated. Being rural has the big advantage of being in the middle of nature, birds singing, hardly any noice at night (we have praticly no neighbours, all farms around are very extensive) no barking dogs all night. Since we are rural we have no good electrical power lines, neither natural gas, so that is why we are limited to gas containers for the hot water supply and instanteneous water heaters. They work fantastic year around, only have some defects when the weather is very hot and the water supply comes in at an elevated temperature. Time to switch to solar power. Let's say ... mañana :-) ???

I cannot recommend Posada Cavieres highly enough. Hans and Alina take fantastic care of all their guests and the food and wine available at the posada is wonderful. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated - excellent value for money - easily the best accommodation of our entire holiday travelling around Argentina. The posada is well placed for wine tours and has a lovely garden and pool for relaxing in. Even the posada's sheepdog Tommy is a joy - my husband is not a dog person, but could not stay away from him! Thanks again guys for making sure we had a fantastic stay - we would return in a heartbeat!

We stayed at the Posada Cavieres for three nights and couldn't have had a better experience. Hans and his family ensure that each of the guests has a relaxing and enjoyable time. As an added benefit, guests can experience the complexities of running a vineyard. I particularly enjoyed following the irrigation process.

The rooms are comfortable and the common areas are welcoming. Hans is attentive to guests' interests and need for dinner. Two of the nights we joined other guests for food at the Posada prepared by Hans.

We did have a car, which certainly made things easier. My sense is, though, that if you are just staying for a night or two, you could get by without one. There are a number of wineries within easy biking distance (a few are within walking distance for the intrepid). Cabs into town can be arranged.

The Posada has a dog -- Sammy -- who quickly becomes very possessive of guests.

Room Tip: Two of the rooms have direct access to the outside. One (the front room) opens only to the living r...

Stayed for three nights over Christmas and had a wonderful time. Hans was very welcoming and helped us with everything from an airport transfer to planning our winery tours to personally dropping us back in Mendoza at the end of our stay.

There are three rooms in total. We had room 1 at the front of the house which was fine. The other two rooms at the back of the house benefit from patio doors on to the terrace with a table and chairs and are brighter than room 1. Our room was cleaned daily and the bathroom was spacious with a hot shower. The bed has a mosquito net as well as mosquito covers on the windows.

Breakfast was included in the rate and was very good - eggs, ham, cheese, fruit, toast, lots of different condiments, fresh juice, tea, coffee...everything you could ask for. Lunch, dinner and snacks are also available for an additional cost. The empanadas and pie were delicious. Hans also sells his own wine at a very reasonable price - we enjoyed numerous bottles!

There are lots of wineries within cycling distance of the posada. We also planned a tour with a driver to wineries further afield. Hans helped with this by recommending an excellent driver at a good price.

Room Tip: Room 2 and 3 have patio doors leading on to a terrace with table and chairs. These rooms are bright...

We stayed in this Posada to discover the wine area surrounding Mendoza. The owner Hans and his wife helped us with planning a wine-tour with private guide and made sure we felt at home.

On request Hans will do an Argentinian "Parilla" (BBQ) for his guests; it is a must! They have great wines, salads and one of the best steaks in Argentina! And it is very relaxed to do it on the porch of the Posada, not having to go anywhere else!

Breakfast was complete, fresh and the rooms are big, nice beds and great shower. It is no five-star hotel, but well worth a five-star rating if you take in to account the price!

Finally; it is located in a small city just outside of Mendoza, easy to reach by cab (you can book that via them as well). Surrounding the Posada are some wineries that you can visit with the rental bikes that they have and the will help you choose the best ones! There is also wifi!

No downside? Maybe just that there is no airco, but they keep the Posada closed during the day and open windows when it gets cooler outside. We did not mis it!

Hope to return there in the future!

Great host, he will be your barbecue man (asador) at night and help you plan your tour during the day. It's family run, there are few rooms, great and relaxed atmosphere. It's an ideal place to stay but isolated, it's perfect with a rental car (there are no restaurants/bars very close by). They have a lovely dog that is extremely friendly with kids and guests.
