“Can not say enough -Lovely stay!”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

We booked via email, and even before our stay we had lots of questions about the lodge and proximity to bodegas, etc. Francisco answered these emails promptly and with lots of information, reassuring us that everything was nearby and would be open (it was Easter weekend).

When we arrived, we were greeted by Francisco and his month old son Benjamin! Francisco was the perfect host - answering all out questions, helping us plan activities, organizing tastings and lunch reservations, etc. The service he provides is genuine and invaluable as he is a wealth of knowledge about the region.

Other positives:

Perfectly scrambled eggs in the morning (not found elsewhere in Argentina!)

Friendly and fun resident dogs

Proximity to bodegas and bikes to rent on the grounds

This was the perfect place to stay while exploring Maipu - so glad we stayed here than in Mendoza city!

Thanks again Francisco (& Benjamin!)

When travelling, it never was the highest mountain peak in the America's or the most obscure animal I have seen that sticks with me, it is the people and "onda" (vibes) that I remember most when visiting spectacular destinations. TikayKilla and Francisco were the epitome of awesomeness and that is not an over exaggeration.

From booking 3 restaurants, bike tours, a rental car (had to call 5 different companies on semana santa, easter weekend, one of the busiest weeks of the year), and wine tours BEFORE we even checked in, this was quite a statement to atest to the service we were about to receive.

Francisco, the owner, is a maverick. Shuffling between English and Spanish, asking how we would like our eggs done in the morning, rocking his Futbol Jersey under his swanky apron, and explaining the difference between Mendocino and Porteno (buenos aires) accent to my parents exuded the biggest grin I've come up with in a long time in any hospitality experience.

We ended up missing dinner one night after a long day of wine tasting and instead of delivery (which we were happy ordering and actually asked for), Francisco insisted on cooking all of us spaghetti with his secret stash of EVOO from his friend of the street, homemade cheese, sundried tomatoes...all for free because he honestly loves making people's day...THE MAN IS A LEGEND!

The rooms are clean, AC/Heater was great, the most comfortable blankets I have snuggled up with in a long time, the list goes on. If you are staying in Mendoza or the outskirts, please treat yourself to a once in a lifetime AUTHENTIC and GENUINE Argentinina experience. Sit back, relax, grab a glass of in house malbec and enjoy the Tikkay Ride!

When you are looking for a nice and quiet place to stay while exploring the Mendoza wine region you are at the right address. The rooms are basic but clean and the atmosphere is homely. The owner/host Francesco is there to welcome you and very helpful if you need more info. We enjoyed some lovely nice home cooking since we didn't want to drive at night. But it is also possible to ask for a taxi to take you to the downtown area.
If we ever go back we will love to stay at the lodge again.

Clean, quiet, perfect location for cycling the surrounding vineyards and excellent value for the price! Owners are incredibly helpful and friendly and offered a warm stay and organized a day tour for us. Also, very prompt email replies while booking as well as links for directions in Spanish for taxi drivers! So glad we stayed here at Tikaykilla instead of in Mendoza city. Thank you again!

We felt like home.
Francisco the owner of this very cozy place pull his best effort in this sense.
From tips on good places to go (and good doesn´t mean famous) and support to getting there we find allways his helping hand.

The only thing that is important to notice is that the Lodge is not very near of any place to eat at night (at least a 10 minutes walk) so it´s better if you be prepared in this sense if you don´t like to walk you´ll be getting a lot of taxis.

But Francisco have in hand very good delivery food.

What I can say to resume our experience is that in our next trip to Mendoza we don´t now the Winneries we are going to visit, but the Lodge is TikayKilla for sure !

Room Tip: First on the left is the best.

We really enjoyed our stay at TikayKilla. The rooms were spotless, bed comfortable, shower hot, satelitte tv on an LCD and Internet worked well.

The owner is so kind and extremely helpful. He made it very easy to explore the area and around. We did not have a car so he arranged all transport for us which was so awesome.

The location is very close to many vineyards though set back from the main road a bit. Nice for peace and quiet but a bit far if you rely solely on public transport (we took a private car that the lodge arranged). They also had bikes to rent on site which was a huge perk! Overall, it's very nice to escape Mendoza and spend time in the countryside.

Breakfast was good with plenty to eat - cereal, toast, omelette, fruit, coffee/tea.

There were also a couple friendly dogs on the premises that we loved playing with.

Our only disappointment was the AC. The AC unit was closer to a swamp cooler than western AC. It blew cool air but not cold which was tough on 1 very hot night. It did cool down a bit outside at night so opening windows was an option if you didn't mind the mosquitos (we minded). Fortunately there was only 1 very hot night over our 3 night stay there and we were comfortable the rest of the time. This also wouldn't be an issue outside summer months.

Overall a very good stay. We would go back!

Reviewed 26 March 2014

After doing my research on Tripadvisor, my wife and I decided to spend 3 nights at Tikaykilla Lodge and Wines in mid-March, 2014 for the Mendoza portion of our Argentinian vacation. We found the Lodge to be charming, tastefully appointed, and an excellent value for money. The property is large, with an ample sized lawn, and plenty of trees, plants and flowers to enjoy. There are two friendly and playful pet dogs that roam the property and happily interact with the guests. The rooms, although fairly basic, are comfortable, clean, rustic, and offer everything that you would need to enjoy a relaxing stay at a lodge in wine country. The common areas of the Lodge share the same tasteful and rustic design, which only adds to the ambiance and character of the place. We loved the relaxing feeling of sitting outside at a table on the covered terrace area, enjoying one of the nice (and very affordable!!) bottles of wine available for purchase from the wine fridge in the reception area, casually chatting with other guests and soaking up the pleasant atmosphere of the garden and lawn areas. There are only 4 guest rooms, so overcrowding would never be an issue, and this allows the host to provide exceptional personal service, as I will discuss below. The included breakfasts are delicious (and filling), as are the coffee and teas provided to guests.

As first time visitors to the Mendoza area, we had several questions for Francisco upon booking our stay, and he took the time to promptly respond to all emails and provide detailed, helpful answers to all of our, admittedly many, questions. Upon our arrival, Francisco was waiting to greet us, and offered us a very welcome drink after a long journey. Despite having become a father a mere 10 days prior to our arrival, and also hosting his visiting parents visiting while we were there, Francisco was both a gracious and attentive host throughout the duration of our stay. He is fluent in both Spanish and English, which was very helpful given our limited Spanish ability. He proved to be a fountain of valuable information and happily recommended restaurants, bars, wineries, and excursions at our request. In addition, Francisco took care of so many of our arrangements, including: arranging bike rentals for us in advance so that the bikes were waiting when we arrived, booking our all day Andes excursion, arranging taxis into downtown Mendoza on 2 of the nights (which cost approximately US $10.00 one way), driving us to dinner at a local restaurant on the third night and then graciously offering to return and pick us up afterward (which we declined, as we wanted to walk off the delicious meal), and arranging our early morning transportation to the airport on the day of our departure. Simply put, the hospitality and the level of service that we received here were nothing short of impeccable, and, if you read through the various other reviews, you will see that this experience is not unique to us, but is a constant at Tikaykilla. If you happen to read this- thanks again, Francisco, for your hospitality and for making our stay a smooth and a very enjoyable experience!

We would definitely return to Tikaykilla the next time that we are back in the Mendoza region . . . in fact, I can't imagine staying anywhere else! We also cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, affordable stay in a charming and relaxing atmosphere in wine country.
