We stayed 3 nights. Julian is the host, winemaker and awesome at both. This property has only one accommodation which is a villa with a loft bedroom and 3 other twin beds - 1 upstairs and 2 down. The queen bed was very comfortable. Because the house is right next to the country street, there is some road noise, but not terrible and certainly not enough to keep us awake after a long day of wine tasting. There is a full kitchen in the villa. The continental breakfast is fixed by Claudia and consisted of fresh ham, cheese, breads and homemade preserves served on a nice patio overlooking the garden. Location is convenient to various wineries, suggest a car since distance can be longer than they seem on the map. Internet connection was quite good as long as you sat near the garden to connect...was not a problem. Enjoy!!!...we did.

Room Tip: Only one room to this property. The queen bed is up some stairs so if you are not up to it, suggest...

We arrived at Bodega Cavagnaro and were immediately impressed with the beautiful buildings and vineyards. It's a lovely setting with birds, huge trees, lots of shade, a swimming pool, etc.
Martha (who is employed at the bodega & gives wine tastings) greeted us immediately and was super friendly and helpful. She gave us a tour of the grounds and gave us some suggestions about bodegas to visit.

The accommodation is a stand-alone guest house with a living room, kitchen (with stove/oven, sink, etc.) and an upstairs loft bedroom - very cute but not the most social atmosphere (as your are the only guests staying here.)

As Martha was not working on Sunday, we found it almost impossible to get help/find someone to ask questions/help us figure out our route. This was extremely frustrating as we did not have an Argentine cell phone and could not phone around. Furthermore, although wifi is advertised, you have to be outside & close to Julian's (owner's) house to use it. This was even more frustrating since we were having trouble determining if any bodegas were open Sundays (we were getting conflicting information from different people.)

The 3 dogs that live on the property are very friendly, but seem to need more attention from the owners as they were constantly around us (guests.) We ate breakfast outside, and the dogs were always around/a bit annoying.

Also, the breakfast was fine, but it was the exact same thing all 3 mornings we were there - some toast, a bun, some ham, some cheese, a packaged muffin and some nuts, along with tea and coffee.

Location is great - right on the wine route.
We rented bikes from Maipu Bikes (the owners there were the NICEST people & were very helpful.)

Overall, beautiful place but I'd be more tempted to visit it on a wine tour than to stay there again.

I cannot say enough great things about Bodega Cavagnaro/Vina Maria! I stayed in the guesthouse and enjoyed having all that space to myself! The bed was exceptionally comfortable. I had the choice of enjoying breakfast inside the main house or on the spacious veranda. The dogs, Chula, Pirate and Alca were protective and friendly and gave me good company since I was travelling solo. The proprietor, Julian (he's handsome, ladies!) was very kind and helpful. Marta, the young woman who hosted the wine tasting, was very knowledgable. The location is only 10-15 minutes from downtown (taxi or car) and very accessible to all the vineyards by bike. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you are travelling with a family or friends for the space and kitchen. Salud, Julian!

The Vina Maria is a great family run place.
A quiet small vineyard with really great value wines (they only produce Malbec). The Cavagnaro Malbec is only $48 pesos/bottle and is really good for the price.
A tasting is $25 pesos for two full glasses of two different Malbecs that they produce.
Definitely worth visiting since you can wander through the vineyards and olive trees. Such a beautiful family run estate!

A couple days at Bodega Cavagnaro, aka Vina Maria, was a perfect finish to 5 weeks in Argentina.
Julian, his staff and trio of dogs will make you feel like one of the family. You'll want to stay longer.
We enjoyed the delicious breakfast, comfortable guesthouse and vineyard (tasty grapes and excellent malbec) and explored the neighborhood on foot. A rental bike or car might have extended our reach but for 2 days we really didn't need one.
We'll be back..

Bodega Cavagnaro is located in a working vineyard, and you are welcome to wander through the grapes and olives as much as you want. You will get to see them as you walk to the lovely swimming pool, a treat after a typically warm Maipu day.

The guesthouse has a an open living room, dining room and kitchen, a comfortable bathroom and an upstairs sleeping loft. The furniture and artwork are lovely, yet homey enough to make you feel you belong there. The elegant detailed woodworking inside and out, the lovely wooden floors, the black and white tiled porch, the warm red stucco - I never tired of looking at them.

Breakfast is on the veranda of the big house, where the owners live. Delicious cafe con leche, breads, ham and cheese, and juice are served as you look at the beautiful yard with its gardenias and huge palms, and its population of monk parrots.

The owners are friendly and helpful, and speak excellent English, so you can get to know them even if your Spanish is lousy like mine. There are also three funny, affectionate dogs.

One major perk is tasting the wine that comes from the vineyard. It is all delicious malbec, but the Cavagnaro 2004 Malbec Reserva is the best malbec I had the entire time I was in Argentina (7 weeks).

Most people come to Maipu during the day, tour a few wineries, and go back to Mendoza for the night. It is so much more fun to stay the night, listening to the doves and looking at the stars. Don't miss it!
