We came here on our honeymoon, and had a brilliant time. We were lucky enough to be given the room next to the office, room 3, which gave us access to the pool and seemed to be the best room. The staff were really helpful in setting up tours of wineries and other activities. The food was also very good.

I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 only because 5 means I was blown away!

1. Location: About 20 min southeast of downtown Mendoza, 30 mins to airport. Off highway 60, but centrally located to access other wineries along the wine route. Quiet and suburban, on about 20 acres of vineyards, surrounded by other vineyards. 45 minutes to the hot springs and about an hour to Uco valley (must visit).

2. Property Condition: Hotel set in 18th century hacienda style. All rooms open to hallway around grassy courtyard. Charming room with good artwork and touches. Feels like a nice home, moreso than a hotel.

3. Noise: Be prepared to hear occasional voices in the hallway as doors are antique and don't provide soundproofing.

4. Cleanliness: Very clean--you won't have any complaints

5. Value: Reasonable for vineyard lodging, In line with size of property and amenities offered. Big name wineries are easily double or more per night.

6. Service/Concierge: Excellent. Daily wine tastings in the evenings with hotel guests (usually a mix of honeymooners or couples). Evening manager Santiago very knowledgeable of wine and local activities. Day manager Juliana equally knowledgeable and very happy to guide you in your daily explorations, wine tours, reservations for dinner, etc.

7. Getting around: Rent a car. Driving around is easy and very convenient if you want to explore. It is reasonably priced (if booked in advance) and includes all the insurance. Painless process, unlike other places such as Mexico and Costa Rica. Pick a designated driver if drinking (not just swish tasting) at the wineries.

This is definitely a hotel for chilling out! We stayed five nights; four would probably have been enough in early October as it was only starting to heat up as we left and it definitely wasn't warm enough to swim in the (unheated) pool.

We really liked the staff, the decor (especially in the room where the wine tastings took place), the volcanic mud left in your room for face masks and the wine tastings. The jacuzzi didn't seem to be open while we were there and looked like it could do with a bit of maintenance. As others have mentioned, some of the bedrooms are a bit shabby in patches - ours could definitely have done with a new coat of paint.

We really enjoyed the complimentary tour of club tapiz vinyard and the meal in Melipal which the hotel organised for us (although we sadly weren't offered the horse and cart ride at club tapiz vinyard and we were a bit surprised to arrive at Melipal and to be told that actually there was no reservation made for us - we got to eat anyway and it was the best food ever!). The high price for the driver for the day was a minor source of annoyance; other couples we talked to at the winetasting thought it was very high too and, as a result, we cut out a trip to a third vinyard as we knew it would mean more time on the driver's clock.

The breakfast and dinner in the hotel's restaurant were nice and we liked the wine suggestions for each meal.

All in all, a great place for relaxing and enjoying the best of Argentine wine!

Club Tapiz is a short distance away from the Tapiz botega. The hotel has 7 rooms in the main part and a few more in a satellite building. The whole place has a slightly faded grandeur to it, but it's nonetheless charming and has uniformly excellent and friendly staff. As other reviewers have noted, the rooms do vary somewhat and the one we stayed in - no. 3 - is probably the best, as it has both a table and chairs facing the main courtyard and a terrace at the back, with a superb view of the vineyard with the Andes in the distance. The downside to this room is that it's next to the main office and attracts inquisitive stares from other guests walking around the grounds. Bedrooms are generously sized with high ceilings and are pleasantly furnished. Although air-con is advertised, this isn't anything more than a fan/heater unit, so the rooms could get quite oppresive in the summer. No wine glasses, bottle opener or tea or coffee making facilities are provided in the rooms, but room service is efficient and reasonably priced. Wi-fi is available free of charge.

There's a separate wing with a sauna, massage area and what's generously described as a 'gym', which consists of a rather basic multigym which only the most dermined would wish to use. A daily, free wine tasting occurs inthe lounge before dinner, which although inevitably something of a sales pitch for Tapiz wines, was a good way of meeting other guests. The Tarranto restaurant is open for lunch as well as dinner, and judging by the four meals we had there, is invariably good and sometimes excellent. What was particularly impressive is the way in which they accommodated a request from a vegetarian and came up with a separate vegetarian menu for the days we were staying there. The winelist obviously centred on Tapiz's own wines, which were good and started at 45 pesos (11 USD) for a sauvignon blanc. For those wanting to splash out, there were more exotic wines, including a rare French Bordeaux at an eye-watering 2850 pesos (650 USD).

There are numerous restaurants further afield, but those that particularly caught our fancy were Clos de Chacras at Chacras de Coria and Bistro La Tupina at Bodega Altus in Tupungato, both of which serve superb tasting menus with their own wines for about 180 pesos (45 USD) a head. Reservations for bodega tours and wine tasting are the norm in Mendoza and staff are happy to arrange this for you; the Tapiz bodega is obviously worth visiting and the Catena Zapata is particularly recommended on account of the winery's unusual Mayan architecture and informative tour.

I loved this hotel. The property is gorgeous - we stayed in the Zolo house in the back which was very charming. The architecture was so unique and felt very authentic for the region. Our room shared a nice lobby with 3 other rooms. A complimentary bottle of wine was chilled in the lobby for our enjoyment. The evening wine tasting was very educational and entertaining and the billiards house was a nice extra.
