“Exceeded my expectations!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2014

The lodge is just a 5 minute drive from the nearest gate which makes it very convenient. It has several hides as well as a deck with a fantastic view overlooking the river and the park. I was impressed by the restaurant (great pizza!) as well as the incredible view on offer while having a bite. We managed to see 3 of the big 5 without even leaving the lodge (all from our balcony and the deck). This was my first trip to the park and I'd definitely return and stay at Ngwenya lodge again.

Stayed in unit 224, which is, apart from the spa next door on its own on an island! There is a bridge for a car and another for walking across to the pools and restaurant. It is beyond amazing. Fully serviced with three full bedrooms and two full bathrooms and a huge kitchen and open plan lounge leading to a balcony overlooking a dam, where you sit and watch birds, fish and reptiles.

The restaurant on the premises is fantastic and I particularly recommend the cocktails! A great place to base yourself for expeditions into the Kruger National Park and Mozambique.

Six pools, three hides and great walks makes this a resort well worth staying at.

We are the very lucky owners of timeshare in this most amazing piece of heaven on earth. We have been going to Ngwenya twice a year since 2002 and have never tired of the delights the Resort or the area has to offer. The Lodges have been revamped and are luxury in the Bush. They are self catering with a well equipped kitchen. There is also a very upmarket Restaurant on site, a store and gift shop. Families often choose to remain at the Resort because of the wonderful facilities it has to offer. There are a number of tennis courts, a miniature golf course, trampolines, games room for teenagers which offers table tennis, billiards, TV games and a host of other activities as well as toddlers room which in which little ones can be entertained. There is plenty of room of children to cycle. The Resort is on the Crocodile River and over the years we have had some of our most exciting viewing of the Kruger Park from the luxury of ourLodge over looking the river We have been privileged to see a lion teaching her cubs to hunt, a lion kill, hyena, rhino, buffalo, and a whole "circus show" of elephants and so the list goes on and on. It is 9 kms from the Crocodile Bridge gate. The game viewing in this area of the Kruger Park is exceptional. We have spotted cheetah, leopards, lion, a number of lion kills, wild dog etc etc etc A relaxing holiday with a life time of memories.

Room Tip: A river frontage lodge adds to the enjoyment.

We stayed at Ngwenya a few years ago and decided we would definitely be back, but would try to book a chalet overlooking the Crocodile River. Four years later we managed to book a river front chalet and it was honestly the best accommodation we have ever stayed in anywhere. The view was spectacular; we spent hours sitting on our veranda watching across the river into the park. Saw elephant, hippo, buffalo, all kinds of antelope, giraffe and crocodiles while braaing each evening!! The rest of the lodge is lovely too and you have the same gorgeous view at the restaurant, which is now much better than the first time we stayed at Ngwenya. It's just a quick drive on the now tarred road to the Crocodile River Gate into the park.
The chalet was really nice (huge veranda) and the staff were great too.

Room Tip: Choose a chalet on the river obviously but as they are so difficult to book, opt for a chalet overlo...

We didn't even know ngwenya lodge existed got it via Internet and we will definatley return to the lodge. The welcome at gates was good one our chalet was perfect and had everything only think it should have a clock in there the air cons were a plus the staff thou were a bit racist especially at he the restaurant area the activities for the kids were good thou more could be done with them was a bit disappointing with the tennis courts we didn't have a chance at all people booked it out for more then three times and didn't give others a chance.also on the day pools getting chlorined to inform guests not to swim on the day was a bad swim Oh our chalet maid could have been more friendly was a bit stuck up but cleaned up well if you give your laundry to the lodge staff to get done becareful they cheated us we had only one and a half loads and got charged for two loads Thomas was unfaithful and didn't come back with our change the trees And shrubs in the front of the river facing chalets was long and bushy thus blocking our view overall it was an excellent place to go to with kruger very near and having a river facing chalet we saw animals coming to drink water. Maybe you should consider porters for the chalets that are upstairs bit difficult with elderly to carry things up oh and get ur staff not to be racist we in the new South Africa

Room Tip: Definatley get a river facing room

Weve been regulars at Ngwenya for years and we love it every time. Our latest visit was a diappointment though as the bush in front of the units on the Crocodile river has become overgrown with invasive alien plants. Bird watching used to be excellent and has now been reduced to near nothing. The units have been upgraded and are excellent but Management needs to take the responsibility to clear the alien vegetation from the river frontage...urgently.

This was a short week with friends who had emigrated to the US and my son in from the UK with his friend from Ireland.
We have been coming to Ngwenya for the past 3 years and the location and game viewing has been superb. Only 15 mins and you are in the Kruger park a day of game viewing or just stay at the lodge and watch the game coming down to the river.
The staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are clean.

Room Tip: My best tip would be to try and get a river front chalet. The views can be amazing. One must bear in...
