The reviews below are right on: Open-air, plastic furniture, simple menu, friendly (you'll likely share a table), cheap, music about 630 Friday Sunday Monday (It's closed Staturdays!), dancing - sort of. .
What's different is that Ana's is more like a senior citizen house party; the customers and performers are mostly regulars, a mix of ex-pats and snowbirds - mostly Canadians - who all seem to know each other. LaDonna (married 50+ years) gets up from a table and does Patsy Cline to a T, Rusty Nails and his buddies assemble from the crowd and do 50s and 60s foot-tappers with professional talent and style. Leon Keefe, who played basketball for the Oregon Ducks in the 50s, is a hoot; the only "registered" washboard player in Mexico. Ribs the specialty. .

We always hang out at Ana's each year in La Cruz. This is a standard sidewalk open bar & grill, plastic tables & chairs, no pretenses. The regular crowd is friendly and easy to talk to, and kicks off the day at 09:00 breakfast; help yourself to coffee at the back. Simple menu, good food, service and conversation, friendly dogs coming & going. Nothing fancy, but relaxing atmosphere and a fun place to gather before starting the day. Music entertainment almost every evening. Washboard Leon can be found here most mornings (he doesnt play in the morning), chatting and working on his art projects. Ana is usually whipping things up in the kitchen, and you can get Barry to show you his photo on the back of a Canadian $50 bill. Go there. Enjoy. Sign the wall.

This is a great place with a wonderful host/owner named Barry. He is a rough looking man with a great heart. I believe there is music at Ana Bananas's every night but I've only gone on Wednesday and Sunday. If you are lucky, you will see Leon play the washboard. Fantastic place with great atmosphere. The food is good but it's the atmosphere that makes it. Arrive early or you won't get a seat! I have to visit here whenever I am nearby.

We dropped by Ana Bananas for lunch yesterday...the regular 9:00 am ex pat breakfast crowd was still lingering by midday, having fun chatting. It is your basic roadside, tin roofed, open air bar & grill; cement and sand floors around the property and a large area for bands/dancing (I gather it can be a night-time hot spot).

Breakfast is served until 2:00 pm and we scanned the menu - all the basics are on offer for reasonable prices.

We grabbed a lunch menu (simple, straightforward short-ordered cooked basics) and ordered a BLT (came with potato chips) and a bratwurst with sauerkraut and french fries (which were excellent), 2 beers and 2 Pepsi Light.

Everything was very tasty and, with a generous tip, came to just 200 pesos. We enjoyed it and will go back again.
