“Montenegro....well worth a visit”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

stayed at the Tara october 2013 and had a great time thanks to Saga holidays. The staff , food, excursions, location, accommodation everything was great. I would recomend any visits done between May - September when everthing is open and avaliable, but thanks to Saga a very good holiday was made excellent

Spent one week in the Tara Hotel arriving 8th May on an all inclusive Saga holiday. We were picked up at Dubrovnik Airport by a young Saga rep and a driver - we two were their only passengers. Nice but quite long scenic drive to the hotel. We were greeted at the Hotel by Janina the Saga rep who gave us a welcome drink, cakes etc. Janina had arranged for a meal in our room and a nice bowl of fruit. The room was a good size, with a small balcony overlooking the pool. It had all the usual amenities and a nice modern bathroom with some nice touches like soft close toilet seats, a walk in shower and lots of shampoo, body lotions etc. Beds were large and comfortable but the mattress was set into a large wooden frame with very sharp corners. I seem to have read all this before on other peoples reviews of this hotel. The staff were first class and plenty of them. tables in the buffet restaurant were cleared immediately by staff. Like all buffets the food is never as hot as one would like unless you are lucky to arrive when it is first put out. However the choice and variety of food was very good. The chefs making omelettes and pancakes to order were also good. The saga lounge was always well staffed and guests were served at the bar which was better than some of the 'bun fights' we have seen at other hotels where guests help themselves. Lots of French, German and Eastern European guests in the hotel. Hotel grounds were pleasant and they arranged for some activities for the guests.
Budva was interesting and so were the various excursions and the scenery is fantastic. A criticism of Montenegro would be that they need to get health and safety issues sorted out if they are to become a major tourist destination. For example some of the streets and pavements were positively dangerous with say a pavement drain cover missing and many damaged slabs from vehicles driving over them. I imagine that will all improve over time. We found the Montenegrins very pleasant and polite and would be more than happy to holiday here again.

Room Tip: The balconies overlooking the pool are not big enough to sit out on. Request a room with a large bal...

Just arrived back from 2 weeks stay at this friendly hotel.
The hotel was SPOTLESS, about the cleanest place I've stayed in. The cleaning
staff appeared to be working non-stop; I saw one member polishing the indoor plant
leaves late at night. (22-30!)
The staff were all extremely helpful and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble,
reported faults in rooms for example were speedily attended to.
The chambermaid responsible for the 4th floor,(I had room 414) was a gem, my room
was cleaned by the time I returned from breakfast.
Next for praise comes the animation team. Jovana, Adriana, and Keka,(nickname!)
were super, full of fun, and to a retiree such as I, never intimidating, as some can certainly be.
They organised many activities, which were always a laugh, and it was always about the guests enjoyment, and not their own cleverness. Well done girls!!!
I stayed all inclusive, with the Saga group, so things there were as expected. Buffet service for meals, which were up to standard, with the usual complaints of buffet service, lack of hot food, but as an experienced buffet eater, this is ever so; the early eater catches the heat.
Sleep quality was fine, the rooms being carpeted so no sounds of furniture being dragged across floors overhead, 3 cheers for that. I have one "complaint" about the bed. The mattress was contained inside a wooden frame which being larger than the mattress stood proud and caused bruised shins the first couple of days, towels draped over the offending corner was my solution.
The hotel does have limited grounds, but there are good long walks to Budva and another fishing village, (name forgotten) in the opposite direction. No indoor pool, a small fitness room, plus hairdresser and small spa are located in the basement level. Normal pool in the small grounds.

The stay here then was for me enjoyable, the weather was not, but that is certainly not the fault of Hotel Tara, and I may even return to see the fantastic scenery of Montenegro which the rainy days obscured, certainly to stay at the Tara.

stayed for 1 week all inclusive on arrival we where welcommed by the saga rep who was very helpfull for the whole of our holiday .the rooms where large and very modern and we where glad we had paid extra for the balcony with the stunning sea view - we where lucky that we had got a room with one of the larger balconies.we had fresh fruit and water on arrival and complimentary toiletries topped up every day with nice fluffy towels !! the food was very nice and plenty of chioce and on one night we had a gala dinner and was waited on by the very helpfull staff, the tables where decorated with fresh flowers and candle lit it was so nice. the entertainment was ok and the young man who served in the saga lounge was always very cheerful and kept your glass topped up. we did the montenegro trip and the scenery was stunning - budva is also well worth a visit- becici itself was closing down so we didnt see this at its best.all in all we had a good holiday and i would definetley stay and reccomend this hotel

Room Tip: pay the extra for a balcony

Good hotel in a good location. Service was good though the food at times good have been better. We stayed on an all inclusive basis and found that if you went down for dinner after 8.00pm main meals were not repleneshed which at times left you with a limited choice.
Breakfast was ok but again not a great choice although there was an omellette/egg chef. Other than that drinks were fine although the all inclusive wine available at lunch a dinner was not really palatable!

Hotel and staff excellent. An extra thanks to the young man in the SAGA lounge, always cheerful even at the end of his long day, starts 08:00 finishes 23:00.
Saga trips are ok, but a bit stretched out on the boring parts.

The evening talk by the "Professor" on the history of Montenegro is quite illuminating.

The hotel has to pay some extra attention to the cleaning of the room shower area, the base had a lot of black mould growing. I know it is difficult to clean, but a bit more attention with the "Domestos" and a scrubbing brush will sort it.
