“Worse than a hostel”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

We stayed here for 5 nights and it was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!!! From the moment we got there we had a number of bags that we were struggling with and the hotel staff just watched us enter without sending anyone to provide us with any assistance. We then proceeded to the counter for check in - there was no smile or greeting just a simple 'name'? Then they demanded payment up front and told us we would have to leave our passports there for them to complete some 'paperwork' (which is strange as I've never had to do this at any of the other hotels) and that WE could come and collect them that evening. We got to our room which stunk like stale cigarettes and like it was old and musty (which it was furniture was stained and everything was really old). This room looked onto a driveway and directly into the laundry of the hotel next door (which was part of the hotel chain) and even though we had requested a room with a double bed we had 2 singles pushed together. I was so disgusted that I went down to complain and see if we could have another room (which I never do - this was the end of our trip and we had been staying in hostels so I wouldn't say I'm fussy but this was worse than any hostel that we stayed in the whole time). The lady at the desk was the rudest person I have ever dealt with she basically said too bad you booked a standard room so if you want something decent you have to pay for a suite. The room that we had booked was already 160 Euros a night and there was no way I was paying more as the hotel was horrible and old in general. She then said she would see what she could do and went out the back - there was a glass mirrored glass window that you couldn't see through so that you couldn't see out the back but I had moved over to the door way where I could see and she was rolling her eyes and obviously telling her colleague what was going on which I thought was so unprofessional - and she was the manager. She then sent us to a worse room in the hotel next door (which was a lesser rating and wasn't the one we had booked and paid for). After that we just gave up and took the first room.

It was horrible because we felt like we had to stay out all the time because the smell of the room was so revolting and the pool was so packed there was no point in even going. They pretty much charge you for EVERYTHING 5 Euro to use the fitness centre, 6 Euro to use the wifi (which doesn't work in your room and barely works in the lobby so I wouldn't even bother purchasing it), 3 Euro a day to use the safe and the list goes on.... We wanted to leave after the first day but we had paid up front and knew we would have issues getting the money back.

The buffet dinner was absolutely disgusting - it reminded me of school camp. We walked in once and there was not a table free. Then we had a look at the food and just left - we went to breakfast once and it was really ordinary also. We just walked down to the beach and got these delicious burgers for 2 Euro's - and they're huge!!

I'd have to say the best thing about this hotel was that it had good shower pressure and that would be about the only bit of praise that I could give. The staff were rude and unhelpful (the worst I've even encountered), the hotel was aged and the rooms stunk, the pool was so packed that there was no point in even going, you had to pay extra for everything even though you were already paying a premium rate (especially as this was end of season), they had nightly entertainment which would be incredibly loud and so if you ever wanted to go to bed early good luck getting to sleep, the food was the biggest waste of money EVER and I could go on and on all day.

Montenegro is such an amazing place and I loved everything about it - everything EXCEPT this hotel. My advice would be just stay in a little pensioni - save your money and go and have a nice dinner every night and treat yourself to some of the amazing activities that montenegro has to offer. Go to Dukley for dinner AMAZING!!!

Dear Guest,

Although we are very sorry to hear that your stay at our IBEROSTAR Bellevue hotel didn’t meet your expectations, we are grateful for the time you spent to share your personal impressions so we can take your vision into account to improve in our daily work and provide great holidays’ experiences to all our guests.

We took good note of your comments related to your disappointment on our reception staff. We passed them to the head of department in order to revise and improve. Service orientation and personalized attention towards our clients are of prime importance for IBEROSTAR, we do all the possible to school our personnel so that they surpass guest expectation and work accordingly to our demanding quality standards. We find it very sad to read that on this occasion we could not make our goal and are doing our utmost to assure that any situation that does not meet excellence is corrected; nevertheless we would like to point out that when you make a reservation, you book a type of accommodation and not the location of your room, this is why we suggest that in the future, you contact directly the hotel that you are going to visit for any special requests so we can give you a confirmation prior to your arrival.

Further, it is a normal procedure to keep guests’ passport until all the documentation is filled into our system

We also regret that our buffet couldn´t meet your expectations, mainly because the quality and the diversity of our culinary offer counts to our strengths. We take your comments regarding our cuisine very seriously, because we wish that our gastronomy remains a very special treat for our guests.

Moreover, we would like to point out that the all Inclusive treatment is related to meals and beverages, the other services, depending on the hotel, may be on extra charge as reported in our brochure and website, this is why we encourage you for any future holiday planning with IBEROSTAR that you contact our call center or have a look at our website where you can find all the relevant information for you to choose the location, hotel type, accommodation and services that best fit your holiday needs and wishes.

Once again, we deeply lament hearing that we could not fulfill your expectations on this occasion and thank you again for your feedback that will help us improve.

Warmest Regards,

Our room was small and overlooked the laundry, the balcony had no table or light and no privicy at all. The soft drinks/mixers were disgusting, (had to buy my own coke zero to mix with spirits.) Both red and white wine were just as bad and the nightly entertainment a joke.
That aside the hotel was very clean, animation team very friendly, food average except the bread which was very fresh and delicious.
Proximity to the beach was great but not the best beach(maybe i'm too fussy)
Budva old town is very quaint with many restaurants to choose from(we ate out every night to escape the "entertainment")
The transfer was long but i knew that before i booked and its a beautiful country and broken with a short car ferry where you can stretch your legs.
All in all if i were to visit Montenegro again i think i would choose a different hotel.

Had a weeks stay here in late June and can't say there was much to find fault with.
For a hotel catering for several hundred guests it really did a pretty good job. It's part of a hotel complex, so it's not the sort of place to go for a quiet 'get away from it all' holiday!!
Rooms & hotel generally very clean, staff very friendly, food by and large was good, although the restaurant got pretty busy and there were problems finding seats at time. The Hotel grounds were exceptionally well maintained and looked great. A trip inland reveals some magnificent mountain scenery - well worth a visit. All in all a very enjoyable holiday.

Do not be fooled by the 4* rating and 'All-Inclusive' offer! For the £700 pp/per week that we paid, we expected far better. This holiday reminded me exactly why I have avoided European holidays since 2002 & traveled further afield instead. The transfer took 3.5hrs, 1 hour more than the actual flight! on arrival, we found that 'Garden View' actually meant an unsightly utilities installation & a huge palm tree, blocking any view of the garden/pool/sea. The room was ok, so was the food. Average, no better. You pay for All-Inclusive but have limited access to the facilities. Some of the bars turn into 'cash only' and others are exclusively cash, even though you have paid extra for AI. You also have to pay to use the gym facility. What is actually Inclusive? We discovered a bottle of a local spirit contained many dead wasps & the bar tender thought it acceptable just to remove the wasps & offer the drink they'd been swimming in! No lie. At times, bars ran out of certain drinks & we were met with mere shrugs, no apologies or anyone bothering to get more.. It isn't all bad, the gardens are immaculate & the ground staff work ever so hard. The Terrace receptionists & both Nina & Mirko were excellent with their customer service, but that's about it. I'd give it a miss & go further afield if you're British/similar. The Russians seem to love it mind. You'll get far, far better service somewhere like Mexico, for comparative prices. Iberostar, when are you going to take notice of all these similar, repetitive comments? I will in future avoid your hotels. If you've stayed here & were impressed, you need to broaden your horizons & experience real quality! Try RIU instead, far, far better service & quality.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up in the 'Terrace' block.

Excellent hotel! Very clean and all staff very friendly and helpful.
On all inclusive basis food and drinks were good, plenty of variety every day and the fruit and ice cream were first class, beer and white wine were very good but red wine, locally produced spirits, soft drinks and juices were not very good.
Our room was in the Grand building which is where the evenings children's and adult's entertainment is held, can be a bit noisy but is finished just after 11pm so didn't bother us very much. The best building in our opinion was the Terrace just because it was far enough away from the entertainment so it was not obtrusive, and the restaurant was quieter.
Private beach with beach bar but cost €6 per day, 3 swimming pools with pool bar and free sunbeds and parasols, towels supplied with a deposit of €10 each. You had to be up early to get best spots though with many people putting towels on the beds and not using them.
WiFi was available at €3 hour or €6 per day, can only really be used in reception which does not have very many seats, expected it to be free in a 4**** hotel!
Safe in the room was payable at €3 per day, again expected it to be free in a 4**** hotel.
Yes there was a lot of Russians in the hotel but my wife is Ukrainian, I am English and I speak Russian so we did not have any problems and we made many new Russian and English friends during our holiday.
Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and would stay again and can recommend the hotel to other potential holiday makers without hesitation.

Room Tip: The Terrace building is the one to go for! Away from the noise and restaurant is not as busy!

We spent two weeks at the Iberostar in August. Very clean, excellent staff especially one receptionist in the Terrace Hotel (sorry do not know her name, but she lives in Steffi Stephen) she really went the extra mile when trying to help with anything.
We too, experienced rude Russian behavior, no queuing, no regard to personal space and they think nothing of leaning over or in front of you to get what they want. You will not hear English being spoken around the complex as there are so few Brits staying here - can get quite lonely if you are a chatty person.
Food in the hotel is geared more for the Russians as is quite bland, but unless you are really fussy there is nice food on offer every day and plenty of it - but beware the Russians load their bags at every meal time. My husband loved the fish cooked on the hotplates every night. Really friendly chef - loved to talk football (the international language).
The rooms are kept extremely clean and housekeeping staff are excellent and very helpful. We found the beds too soft - but that maybe a personal thing. We also had to report the air conditioning not working properly many times before it was finally sorted out. The drinks supplied on the all inclusive leave a lot to be desired. I do not drink alcohol and the soft drinks on offer were not good - drank water for 2 weeks. If you are a coffee drinker, I recommend you take your own. The coffee in the restaurant was disgusting and when I bought a sachet of coffee from what is called a "CASH BAR" you pay! they charged in 3 euros each. Buy a jar at the local supermarket.
Montenegro is a very beautiful country, and we are so glad we have visited it before it becomes even more commercialized. The Montenegrin s are very very friendly and most of them speak fantastic English.
Would recommend travelling by local buses = cheap and frequent. We visited Albania - a great one day trip.

Room Tip: Terrace Hotel as quieter
