Was nice to finally visit this outback pub. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We didn't stay in the pub only stopped for a beverage and a photo or 2 and camped down the road at a free camp site. The photos and ornaments around the pub are amazing. Highly recommend a visit here.

I recently visited Birdsville for business reasons and was accommodated in the iconic hotel. As a seasoned traveller to many parts of Queensland, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of rooms which is better than many outback pubs.
Motel rooms are clean and cool with easy access to the airport, information centre and post office.
The dining menu was extensive and suitable for this outback location. A highlight was the buffet breakfast which was plentiful and inexpensive.

While staying in the famous outback town for three nights, we visited the renowned Birdsville pub to catch a football game on the television in the bar. The service was friendly and efficient; and the atmosphere was great. Visitors should check out the fabulous collection of hats -- all nailed to the ceiling. Every hat tells a story of a local patron. We did not use the pub for accommodation, although it is available.

We went along with a large group to the Barbeque Night just before the Birdsville Races, expecting a great meal in an outback pub. We were sadly disappointed as the meats were all precooked and sitting in a low temperature bain marie . Nothing was sizzling when it went on your plate. Also the salads were mediocre and the veges were cold. Definitely way below the standard expected of this pub and experienced previously. Our experience would be that you visit the hotel when the meals are cooked individually and not predone. we were unaware that this was the situation until after we had prepaid.

What a fun weekend we had at the Birdsville Races and the hub of the weekend was the historic Birdsville Hotel. What an icon it is and lived up to its reputation over the weekend. They came from far and wide to be there and to add to the atmosphere. Plenty of grog and not one fight. Everyone knew how to enjoy themselves without going crazy. All should be commended and the pub staff did a great job both at the pub and at the races. Thanks Birdsville you did yourself proud.
