“Industrialised Business!”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

Very disappointing when you expect to experience the sophistication and the french "savoir-faire"!
Huge restaurant, crowded, too many waiters walking like crazy in the 3 or 4 dining rooms, we almost felt like arriving in a cantina! They forgot to bring us the zakouskis with our glass of champagne, then we had to wait 50 min before getting served our first course. As they noticed we were not very pleased with this, the waiter came at the end of our 270 Euros dinner/pers, saying that he was sorry that we had arrived just in the middle of the "coup de feu" (when everybody arrives).
On the hotel side, disappointment also as breakfast as nothing to do with the nice french "croissanterie" served at your table but consist in a huge buffet where you even need to get yourself a coffee & tea, just like in the average places in the US!
Rooms are just ok but nothing special and if you want to enjoy the pool, you better jump on the sofa before breakfast and where there is still some seats available!
Far from being a personalised and fine service, we left with the feeling Georges Blanc lives on his reputation and is more trying to find a way to make good money out of his name instead of taking care of his guests and offering a nice experience.
We will not go there anymore and will not recommend the place, unfortunately!

We stopped on the way up from the south. It is George Blancville! A bit Disneyed in a way, but colourful, pretty and immaculate. Our standard room was upgraded which was very nice and appreciated and the room we had was very comfortable and well serviced and beautifully decorated. But the Bath towels are small, unless you are short! Which lets the bathroom experience down somewhat and is surprising given the slippers and toiletries. If you need a drink around the pool you have to go find someone and for towels, there is no pool side service, this was the same the last tim e we stayed and at a 5* you expect better. We ate in the bistro, frankly a bit over rated, lovely spot to sit, nice people, but if I never see the ecrivesses roulade thing again it will be too soon, my mistake as I had it last time too. Bland and insipid and looks horrible stuck on a plate as a fat sausage roll. The main restaurant which was closed is very expensive. Breakfast at 30E each wasn't worth it. Impersonal as a place to stay, there are much better hotels such as L'Abbaye de Bussiere. But it is so manicured, beautiful grounds and immaculate so would stay again and we got a good price on the room. It wasn't by any means full, although the bistro was.

...is what you can expect when staying in this place. We got an upgrade to a suite and there was nothing to wish for! Just make sure you don't forget your swimsuit when wanting to use the spa: they sell some simple swimwear but with a hefty price-tag and I didn't notice that bikinis displayed as a set have two price-tags (top and bottom seperately) which left me with a unpleasant suprise.

We stopped off at George Blanc's parc & spa on our way back to Switzerland from the UK
Out of season, but wonderful autumn colours in Vonnas (where you only go to savour Monsieur Blanc's legendary cuisine)
We are spolit in Switzerland because Vonnas is only a few hours drive away and I have had the good fortune to have savoured this cuisine over a good many years now.
It was low season and we basically had the spa all to ourselves (perfect!)
The main restaurant was closed, but we went across the road (basically the Blanc family runs the whole village) to the Blanc Brasserie
Now, I challenge anyone to come up with a menu for under 60€ that includes
Pate de Foi; Escargots; Poularde de Bresse (delicious); Cheese; and Desert !!!
They know how to live in Bourgogne and they have the products to match
Next time we'll make sure the main restaurant is open
Christmas treat for the wife
Can't wait!

I spent a weekend at Georges Blanc overall I had a good experience. That was mainly because we were upgraded to a suite that was almost bigger than my apartment in Paris. The service was good at the hotel. However given what we paid, I think there are better Relais & Chateaux options in France. The setting of Vonnas is nothing special -- it's a little town that has been created around Georges Blanc and his restaurants. It lacks authenticity. The village and the gardens of the hotel seemed a bit too "Disney-esque" for my taste.

The restaurant is lovely. The food was very good as was the service. The hotel was quite full the weekend I stayed there and the pool and spa area were packed and the staff was overwhelmed. I imagine it would have been a more relaxing experience had there not been so many people. We had the same problem at breakfast. The breakfast room was full and the service suffered. The staff couldn't replenish the buffet to keep up with demand. I felt bad for the staff who were running around but considering we paid 30 Euros each for breakfast, we expected a bit more.

I have the privilege of living in France and have traveled around the country on weekend breaks and I think there are far nicer places to stay and visit than Georges Blanc/Vonnas and which cost less. However I would recommend going to the restaurant for lunch or dinner if you are in the region/area.

This is a great hotel. Understated luxury. Nice spa but the outdoor and indoor pools at 26C were too cold..... Beautiful location but really quite rural... You go to Vonnas for this hotel and restaurant.. Lovely breakfast. Restaurant rated separately...!

Our second visit to this extraordinary and wonderful hotel. On arrival with friends we were disappointed with the size of one of the rooms but were told the hotel was full. Nonetheless the wonderful front desk manager; Christine, effortlessly and with utmost professionalism offered an upgraded room at no additional charge and defused any upset that might have occured. Such members of staff, are, frankly, so valuable that they must be treasured.
I cannot praise this hotel highly enough.
Service is at the highest level, rooms cleaned twice a day, gardens stunning, village picture perfect but the star of the show is the cuisine. I am priviledged to have eaten at many Michelin restaurants in ,any countries but George Blanc remains amongst the best. The service is sleek, chic and effortless and illustrates this fine French art form. The food sublime (you cannot leave without eating the Bresse chicken in fois gras & champagne sauce - the dish created by M. Blanc for the G7 summit) - it is simply delicious. As is the speciality Frogs Legs in honour of Mama Blanc. Expensive, yes but you will remember for a long time a meal of such quality and content. George Blanc makes it his business to visit each guest at during dinner and a signed menu is left in each room. Wine list is staggering but I must confess that some wines were overpriced (even for this establishment 6 a comment I make with some knowledge as my husband is a collector).
Likewise lunch or dinner in the Blanc Auberge (just across the street) is fantastic. The salmon trout cooked to perfection - the Lyonnaise Quinelle in lobster sauce just perfect and all desserts give the dieter no chance!
Fantastic outdoor pool set in the little park which itself is elegantly landscaped and include the hotel's herb and vegetable garden. If blessed with good weather there is full service around the pool and the delightful breakfast room becomes equally lovely for light lunches.
Vonnas is close to both the Montrechet and Pouilly areas so for wine lovers this is a trip of dreams.
It is not a cheap adventure but one of value and immense style.
I cannot wait to return and fail to understand the comments made by the previous reviewer:
