“Great food, not many options”
Reviewed 10 December 2013

Went there looking for locally made deli, they have great hams and smoked/cured fish (salmon, trouts), but no more than 6 or 7 options when I visited. Will have to come back to eat in.

Thank you very much for visiting us at Lovedale Smokehouse.

We have over 200 products in our store, I am sure that you can understand that we aren't able to offer tastings of every single one of them.

We select around 10 products per day to offer tastings for and try to include a range of different items including smoked fish, smoked cheeses, smoked meats, jerky, chutneys, jams, salad dressings etc.

We do hope that you come back another time and try our lunch menu which offers share plates of smokehouse products with over 40 items to choose from.

“They did a great job on 'advertising'!”
Reviewed 9 October 2013 via mobile

My partner and I wanted to get away for a couple of days to celebrate our anniversary. As we only had one special night together we wanted to have an amazing meal and good wine. We had read good reviews about this restaurant in food guides, they have their own smokehouse, they make their own wines and it is also a cooking school, so they obviously know their food! We thought it sounded perfect. When we rang to make a booking we were told there was $50 deposit and because the restaurant sounded great we were happy to pay. After a $80 return taxi trip- which were happy to pay as we thought it was going to be worth it, we arrived. Seriously underwhelmed! The website said restaurant and art gallery. In actual fact it was quite a small room with random paintings jammed into any spare space on the walls, not what I'd call an 'art gallery' and the restaurant was furnished with alfresco metal tables. There was a huge family sitting down the middle of the small room with lots of noisy children and the wooden floors just made them louder. The kids were running around and crying and the parents didn't seem to be worried. Not an ideal romantic setting for an anniversary! Knowing this was supposed the venue of our one special dinner together I was visibly annoyed. Then we received our menu, there were few options for mains and considering the quality of the restaurant, I wasn't happy paying almost $40 for a steak! At this point we wanted to leave. Unfortunately we had paid a $50 deposit which we obviously would not be refunded if we left! I ordered the sour dough king prawns with bloody mary aoli as the main option, my partner ordered the salmon. I must say his meal was delicious! Mine, not so much. The prawns were big, but deep fried and very oily and came with no side salad, no garnish, not anything but the sauce and lemon. Not what I'd call a 'main'. Instead of staying and relaxing with a bottle of wine like we'd planned, we skipped dessert and left as soon as we finished our meal. The bathrooms were out of order also. They do make there own wines and the ros was lovely, there was also a great view of the vineyard and the water features outside were very peaceful in comparison to the restaurant, which are the only positive things I can say. We will not be returning!

“Nice quant cafe and restaurant - very quiet, good food”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

This was also recommended by family to visit - it was a very nice place to visit for lunch. We took part in the Tasting menu, which meant getting a selection of tapas-style plates. The King Prawns in Blackbean dipping sauce were very good, as were the smoked mussels. You can try the wines grown on the property with the meal.

“Cooking School”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

Try a cooking class. We did the chinese one. Had a great time and lovely lunch. The chef has a great knowledge of the food and its origins. Not hard work at all. Great way to spend a Saturday morning. There are many menus to choose from. Wonderful smoke house products too.
