“Great Value, excellent location”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

We stayed here for a wedding we attended, then by chance a Day on the Green concert was announced, so we attended that as well. It had been 20 years since we have been to the Hunter Valley, so I didnt know the area at all. This was the best value accommodation I could find, close to the wedding venue, and I'm glad I did. The villa was spacious, very clean and well maintained considering their age. The bathroom was prpbably15-20 years old but still in working order, nothing broken and quite large. There is both air con and ceiling fans and a big glass sliding door out on to the private decking with an outdoor setting. Huge kitchen, not that I was doing any cooking, but everything was there. Helen at the front desk is terrific, she was so helpful and informative and genuinely interested in what her guests were doing while visiting and then offered hints and suggestions, which we happily followed. I woke up on sunday morning to kangaroos outside our villa munching on the grass. The location was just a short and very easy drive to everything we wanted to do and there are some quality restaurants very close by. If I have a complaint, it would only be some bedside tables would be nice and I would be happy to pay an extra $5 a night to fund better coffee and soap, it has been a long time I drank nescafe blend 43 and now I remember why. On the up side I was happy Helen supplied fresh milk and not that horrible UHT stuff. All in all, this was a very nice place to stay, I would stay there again, and recommend it to others and if I was with another couple I would try the 2 bedroom villas. Thanks Helen, you were really great.

40 expats living in Sydney stayed at the retreat for 'Christmas in July'. Needless to say we were probably nightmare guests (very loud considering the owners live on site).
Despite this Helen and her husband were extremely accommodating and made a great brekky each morning with a smile.

The cabins have everything you would need for a weekend away, they're basic but comfortable... we were so glad they had heating! They also have great sized balconies with a view.

I'd recommend doing a wine tour with 'All Around the Valleys' who offered the best price and are great for big groups.

Thanks again to Vineyard Hill Retreat for an amazing weekend!

Room Tip: Cabin 7 has the best uninterrupted views.

We woke to amazing sunrises, sounds of birds chirping, cows and roosters. Stunning sunsets overlooking the Brokenback Ranges.

Staff are friendly and make an awesome breakfast every morning.

We had a beautiful relaxing stay. Close to wineries and set in beautiful bush land.

Host Helen makes this place what it is, she makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, cooks an excellent breakfast and can assist with heaps of information. The room is spacious and the beds are good, but the place looks like it can use an update. The views from the veranda are beautiful and the place it really relaxing. Good location to explore the Hunter Valley as well.

The only thing I did not like too much is that the bed was not made and towels were not replaced. Although this was explained in the room information book, as they respect your privacy and care for the environment, we did not take the time to read this and were a bit disappointed at first. Would have appreciated a sign in the bathroom, in that case we could have easily reused our towels. We got fresh towels in the morning from the reception (opens at 8 am)

We've stayed at Vineyard Hill a number of times over the past several years. The BIG plus is a great location for ready access to most of Hunter Valley wine country, plus a quiet location and very good outlook over the lower end of the Lovedale area.

The rooms are well laid out, very comfortable and well maintained, but are now starting to show their age to some degreet. The lounge/kitchenette and bedroom areas have very high ceilings and feel quite spacious, however, the shower/toilet has a quite low ceiling and feels cramped in comparison.

The bed is comfortable and the air conditioning plus ceiling fans are effective in in controlling the indoor climate. The parking spaces are very close to the units and access is quite easy, though it does involve a few steps.

The host are very friendly, and the hot croissants offered in the light breakfast are wonderful.

The price is low mid-range for the Hunter Valley, and is fair value for the overall experience.

Room Tip: Room 4 has the least favourable view (though quite OK), all the rest have great views.

I thought this accommodation was overpriced. We had little choice because we needed to be close to the area for an event and I understand this impacts upon the price, The rooms were clean but not immaculate. The verandah had a beautiful view but was quite rickety. The pool was not clean and the spa appeared worse. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Overall the place seemed tired and I noticed a For Sale sign on the road so perhaps the owners have lost enthusiasm.

Room Tip: They all have lovely views.
