My husband and I booked a discounted 2 bedroom villa for a 4 day stay, which included free breakfast. The villas are actually separate to the main hotel, but there are three villas to each building, so you are not completely on your own. Saying that, we did not hear the other guests at all. The villa was huge! Massive lounge and bedrooms, spacious bathrooms, fully equiped kitchen, comfy bed and good shower. Only faults on the room I could find were some worn carpet and a damaged mirror in one of the rooms. The grounds of the hotel are massive, it has its own golf course, lake, giant pool, day spa, upstairs restaurant, downstairs cafe and bar, upstairs bar with lounge, outside areas with pool table and tennis table. They even have a kids club to keep the kids entertained! The staff were exceptional, always attentive and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. Yes - the breakfast is amazing. They have a buffet where you help yourself to cereals, fruit, pastries, juice and hot food. There is also an egg station where you order your eggs as you want them, they even do omelettes. We ate at both the restaurant and cafe for dinner, the food was great. It became very busy on Saturday when the crowds arrived from Sydney for their weekend getaways, if you want a quiet time, I would avoid the weekends in the Hunter all together. If booking a villa, be mindful that you may have to walk a way to the main hotel, which may be difficult for older or invalid people. Also, the wineries are not within walking distance, if you don't have a car, organise a shuttle or group tour.

Room Tip: If booking a villa, ask for one close to the main hotel.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom villa and struck an awesome deal where breakfast was only $8 per person per night extra. Everything was top notch; located right in the middle of the wineries, outstanding service, breakfast to die for and nice modern accommodation. I honestly cant say enough good things about the place. We will be back!!!

We stayed here as a couple for a Bank Holiday long weekend. Very easy access to the wineries, and not far from the Tourist Info Centre, which was great as we used the Yellow Brick GPS guides to drive around, and they start and end at the Info Centre. Hubby went to play Golf at the Gold Course there, and was able to hire golf clubs, buggy and balls for $95. No need to hire shoes, and if you wanted to walk it, it was quite a comfortable walk around the course. I went to the Tea Tree Spa which was clean, with great service, and had a great facial. Then relaxed at the cafe there where we ended up having lunch as well as RedSalt was fully booked. Great Service there. Buffet Breakfast was great - lots of hot and cold dishes, omelettes made to order, and veg juicers available. Service was great at all points, but sometimes the hotel was a little tired around the edges - no bathrobes, papers did not arrive, room service menu not extensive, villas could do with an external paint touch up, bath towels were scratchy. But I would still recommend it overall as the facilities were great, convenient and service was great. We went as Priority Privelege members and vouchers were redeemed with no problems, and we got a free upgrade as well, which was brilliant.

Room Tip: 2 bed villas are great if you want to self cater as they have a full kitchen

Not quite your Lovedale loveshack. It is a big hotel, but seems they do have the more private apartments on site. We stayed in the basic deluxe room which was nice for a hotel style room.

The whole complex was the winner though. HUGE pool, big 24hr gym and the Redsalt restaurant for the buffet breakfast or dinner was awesome.

The quality and size of this place really does shine through.

We had a group of 6 going to a wedding at the Iron Bark Hill Winery. I would advise you to check distances between wineries as this was a little far. Crown Plaza is a great base though for going to different wineries. We rented villa 603 for one night. All the rooms were tidy and the bathrooms and kitchen were really nice. I would stay there again for a group. I would advise you to take advantage of the kitchen facilities if you are staying there for a few nights. We were at the wedding and had breakfast booked so we only used the tea and coffee facilities. Villas in the 600s were around the corner from the reception and was very quiet.

Room Tip: Villas in the 600s are away from reception and very quiet.

I stayed at Crown Plaza in May for a weekend. It was really nice. The room we stayed in was nice, clean and comfortable. If you are interested in wine, then Hunter Valley is the right place in NSW. The hotel itself is located near the wineries. I went for horse riding and had a great time.
We ordered the special BBQ which was delivered to our room and we had our own little BBQ on our terrace. You can choose to have it in the garden as well. I think the BBQ was a good idea if you prefer a quiet little dinner. The bar is nice and we had some drinks. Overall I had a great time and will recommend the Crown Plaza Hunter Valley to all my family and friends.

We've stayed at this Crowne Plaza (standard rooms) on a few occasions - it always seems to be the only halfway decent hotel in the Hunter that still has a room available. That said, every time I book a last minute trip to the Hunter, I kick myself for not having planned the trip in advance because again and again, I end up at this very subpar hotel.

Pros:
-if you rather not stay in a cottage (or pay $600-700 a night for one of the few luxe hotels) this is a somewhat decent middle-of-the-road option
-location
-pool/golf course
-hotel lounge is nice
-enjoyed the spa facilities
-breakfast is decent

Cons:
-poor value for money. I've never paid less than $350/night for a standard room.. while that isn't a great deal in Sydney, you would expect more considering what you get!
-lackluster rooms. I've stayed in three different rooms and besides the lackluster decor which is not a big deal (some rooms are nicer than others - perhaps some are renovated and some are not?), the rooms are not always clean! Last time I stayed it seems that our toilet roll had been dropped into some um, dark colored water... I rather not speculate...gross. We also had a problem with our television that they were not able to fix (despite the fact that they brought a technician in 3 times!)
-the concierge service was terrible --- the woman who served us last time knew less about the Hunter than we did --- very disappointing and not at all helpful

Overall, it's not the worst, it's not the best.
