Can Marti Agroturismo
Reviewed 19 September 2012

We spent 8 perfect nights at Can Marti...

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good decision on where to stay for our first visit to Ibiza. The welcoming we received made us feel a part of a family and this continued throughout our stay. The apartment was spotlessly clean and everything we needed was available...

Set within a beautiful setting, Can Marti is the perfect getaway for anyone looking to visit the relaxing side of Ibiza. We hired a car for our stay and found it very easy to get around following Peter and Gina's help with where to go and how to get there!

Overall we can thoroughly recommend Can Marti and find it difficult to understand how anyone can find fault. Beautiful, peaceful, clean and relaxing. What more could you want?

Thank you for looking after us guys and we will look no further on where to stay when we next visit Ibiza.

We stayed in Can Marti, apartment Algarrobo, for a full week and judge it as a hidden jewel in the north of Ibiza. Peter and Isabelle give their guests the privacy you expect in a place like this, but are immediately available when you need them, just knock on their door. The rooms are not furnished like a 5 star hotel, but you get exactly what they promise on their website. You can notice that the owners are Swiss, everything is working properly. The apartment is cleaned every single day! Where do you get that?
The property is situated in a stunning valley and beside the sounds of chicken, sheep and donkeys there is nothing! We loved it.
The pool is amazing with frogs jumping in their own area beside it. It is funny to watch them while you are swimming. From the poolarea you see the whole property.
We would definitely recommend this place to couples who are familiar with agriturismo's and sustainable tourism.
Why not 5 stars: The mattress of the bed is quite stiff, I like sustainability, but not when it refers to my bed...;-)

I totally agree with Elisa Bebo's review on Can Marti. We just came back from there, and I think this is totally over-rated for the service you get.
Positive point is that you are in a stunning place. The setting is beautiful and you are very well located, near San joan and all the beautiful north beaches. The staff is nice and welcoming, they are trying to meet your needs quickly, which is great. However, we found that Can Marti is not an hotel. This is a rent-a-room place, which means you don t get a true service there. There is no air-conditioning (we went up to 42 degrees...), we had a problem with the ants as well. We were with a 2years old baby, and neither her or us could sleep with the ants, coming into our beds... We had to sleep all nights nearly on our terrace to get some air... Not relaxing at all, as we were awaken by the animals at 5am....I think for this price you are looking for a better service and more comfort.

Contrary to the other reviews, we had not such a good experience. We stayed in El Pino for 1 week end of July and felt the service was not bad, just nonexistent! Now I have to mention that the owners were not there, so this might be the reason of the lack of service.
Upon arrival we were given the key from a nice lady, she told us there was a shop and we bought some stuff to start our holliday. She also said there was a pool but that is was quite a walk to get there, that was the end of the service.
Hammam? Bycicles? Some info on the surroundings? Suggestions on where to eat? Breakfast? Haven't seen or heard none of that.
Towels were changed only once or max. twice a week. With a baby of nearly 2 years who gets dirty all of the time and going each day to the beach + paying what you are paying ... it is dissapointing. The first morning we also woke up with an invasion of ants in our room, they came and attacked our clothes! The day after, the same happened, but then on our clothes that were drying outside. From that second day on, we started to wash by hand all our clothes ...
On Saturday we didn't have running water, ok this is a problem that can happen, though it got too much.
No airconditioning, it was very hot in the room. The terrace of the room El Pino is small, dark, has just a bench to sit on and is not inviting to stay there. The pool is ok, though only 4 sunbeds, so if 1 family decides to go to the pool, there is no place left. So you just ran off from early morning to find a relaxing place to sit or lie down a bit.
I find this a nice place to be, but not at the price you pay. For this price some service should be given, if not, you can also just rent an appartment with airco and we would have paid less.
Location was nice though!

I am one of the owners of Can Marti and I am sincerely desolated that our Agroturismo did not match your expectations.
However I have to make a few clarifications. It is not the first time that Doris (the nice lady you mention) is taking care of our place, when we are away. She always tries to do her best to satisfy the need of our guests and we never have had any complaints.
The following concerning the lack of service:
In every room there is a folder (yours was in French, like our previous mail correspondence) with detailed information about:
- The Hammam (including a list the different treatments and their rates.
- Information about our bicycles (free of charge) including suggestions for excursions. I have to add that during the heat period of July and August nobody is using the bikes anyway.
- Information that we change the towels twice a week (you change them every day at home?) and a more frequent change is possible but will be charged. You also have been informed by mail that we do not supply towels for the beach. Why did you have to use our towels if your baby gets “dirty”? They are for drying, not for cleaning!
-There is also different books and brochures with suggestions for excursions (Els Amunts, Do you know Ibiza?, Hiking Guide of Ibiza, “ and more.
-On our homepage you can find detailed information about sports and leisure and also suggestions where to eat out (a list of our preferred restaurants).
-Our apartments are self-catering and have a little kitchen. They are cleaned every day except Sunday. We never mention that we offer breakfast, but that in our farm shop you can find all the (organic!) ingredients to prepare your own.
-As we try to avoid using chemical insecticides, I admit that we sometime have ant invasions, especially when guests leave food accessible. They are very tiny and can be invasive during the period when they feed their nests. If the guests inform us we always fin a “soft” solution. If you had ants on your clothes drying outside, shaking them off would probably have been a simpler solution than washing them again. I would like to point out that ants are not dirty at all. They perform many useful functions in the environment, such as clearing out insect pests and aerating the soil.
-The water problem was bad luck. It never happened before. As I could not be reached, I was not able to give the instructions that where needed. Anyway, my son organized
help and the water supply has been re-established the same day.
-On our homepage we clearly inform that there is no air-conditioning. For more than 12 years nobody seemed to miss it. Please notice that an air conditioner coil can be a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. A ventilator was at your disposal. This year we had an exceptional hot summer and for people flying in from the north, (where July was cold and rainy), Ibiza with 31º and over 90% of humidity was quite a shock and needed one or two days of acclimatisation.
-The covered porch is not small at all (please check the photos on our homepage).
There is a table for 4 people and a corner bench with cushions. Neither it is dark, just shady.
-Our pool is totally natural (the only one of it’s kind on Ibiza). As no chemicals are used, it can con deal with too many people at once. We have the capacity to accommodate only 10 people and the pool is accessible 12 hours. As far as I know there has never been a queue for our lounge chairs. Most of our guests love the spot, perfectly integrated in to the surroundings and too close to the apartments, so the eventual noise is not disturbing. I have admit that we had another couple complaining about the
distance (3 minutes walk!) because with the ladies high heels it was complicated to get there.
The season is short on Ibiza and our employees are declared and paid correctly. Our prices are not low, but very reasonable. Please compare with the rates of other Agroturismos during the same period and you will realize that I am not exaggerating.
Our homepage is informative and honest. You should have had a closer look before booking your stay with us. We care about the environment and offer a peaceful place in unspoilt surroundings. If you had other preferences and expectations, an apartment in a holiday complex would have been a cheaper and better choice.
Sorry, I may have been a bit long, but I found comments so unfair, that I had to go into details.

We stayed here for a week beginning of June, and it proved to exactly as described on the website. Beautiful surroundings and excellent standard of accommodation. The pool was our favourite, each time we went we had it to ourselves, maybe as we had no car we used it more. But swimming in a pool with water you can possibly drink! no chlorine aftertaste and nothing but birdsong to hear. Bliss.
If you do travel without a car be prepared for some serious hills on a bike!. The 10 min walk over the hill to the village is perfect for morning coffee.
Could have done with some introduction when we arrived though - I know we wanted peace but a quick overview of whats where on the first day could have been better (maybe as the owner was away it's not usual). And a small welcome pack would be nice, we arrived late and had nothing, not even water. Next day we discovered we could drink the tap water, that's how green this place is. Loved it. Next time will bring more books. Oh, and we discovered internet connection in room the day before we left..see what we mean about the introduction?

Room Tip: If going again I'd pick the Pino, although all are great

Spent 4 nights there in August 2011. What a place! The pool is so glorious and tranquil. We spent many hot afternoons bathing there. It has a natural/chemical free filtration system using a waterfall, plants and the power of sunlight! So great!
The local beaches were pristine and magical and the countryside around the villas provides plenty of interesting places to explore. The resident donkey was just adorable and we loved the owners dog Ringo!

Had the pleasure of staying at Can Marti with some friends last summer....Wow...what a place. The accomodation was amazing, the location and scenery were second to none and after a long day of exploring the amazing countryside (pinching a few of the homegrown fruits and berries along the way) a dip in the natural swimming pool topped off the day.
