“Wonderful little town”
Reviewed 2 April 2012

We stopped in this town on our way to The Burren. What a lovely little town. They have a cathedral and it is the town of crossed. The Heritage Center there is very informative telling the story of the Burren. It has a fee to enter, but, it is well worth it. A great little gift shop and cafe. We had a pot of tea and scones with clotted cream that was delicious and warmed us on a cool day. If you are going to the Burren don't pass this town up. You will love it!

“Ruined Cathedral and Acclaimed High Crosses”
Reviewed 26 April 2008

Tucked away in a lane near the Burren Centre, Kilfenora Cathedral and the High Crosses are worth seeking out.

The Cathedral has some fine carvings within its walls, and the High Crosses, which are now housed inside the building under a protective glass roof are some of the finest in the country. Don't miss the High Cross which lies in a field beyond the walls of the graveyard. Look for the arched gateway; the field is a short walk down the lane.

Whilst in Kilfenora, do pay a visit to the Burren Centre next door, where you can learn all about the history, flora and fauna of this fascinating region. There is also a small gift shop and tea room at the Centre.

“Very well preserved”
Reviewed 15 July 2006

We came to Kilfenora with the express purpose of seeing the high crosses. We entered the cathedral grounds with a map showing the location of the crosses, and were quite confused when we couldn't find them. Kim eventaully found them where they have been moved to a wing of the cathedral that has been semi-enclosed with a glass roof to preserve them from the elements. From the usual entrance near the visitor centre, one must go all the way around the church and through a couple of doorways to find them. The crosses are excellent, and the place also has a couple of other interesting items, including two very crude grave effigies dating back several hundred years. Well worth a visit.
