“A real gem!”

This is a suoperfrench hideaway, the sort you always hope you will find! we travelled to Brittany, so this was in an ideal mid-way location. In the forest near to Alencon and the autoroute, it overlooks a wonderful fishing lake. It is truly tranquil!
The English wife, and French Chef / Husband are very welcoming. The rooms are very comfortable and the food superb. Overall value is extraordinary, with Euro 60 rooms and a great Euro 21 menu.

Our bill was around Euro 120 for drinks, super dinner, breakfast and a nice room - fantastic value.

Room Tip: All rooms appeared very good, except the disabled room on the ground floor - room 6. Booking .com of...

The rooms were better than the restaurant. The menu is very limited, no vegetarian options (although I suppose that is nothing new for some areas of France..) and quite overpriced for what it is you receive. I ordered the salmon for starter and the dish also included some other fish that were not mentioned to me by the waitress, even when asked in english. The service was very good, though. The dessert was ok.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Bathrooms very nice and had a shower as well, beds were comfy. The setting is very beautiful, but rural so there is nothing to do around the area.

I have just spent 3 nights at this hotel and now need to diet! The food is fantastic. The hotel enjoys a lovely lakeside position and is set in a very tranquil location. The owners are a couple - he cooks and she runs the hotel. What lovely people. The presence of 5 De Tomaso Panteras in the car park only added to the occasion! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the rear.

Run by and English woman and her French husband this hotel is comfortable enough for a long stay to explore the eastern Pays du Loire rather than be treated as a stopover as we did. Wonderfully warm welcome from our owner manager who had turned on the heating in our room in anticipation of our arrival on a cool evening, the carafe of sherry placed in the room a welcome and charming touch. The room had a great view over the ajacent lake - the hotel was surrounded with peace and quiet.

Dinner was served in the original mill part of the hotel - good menu choice, food served efficiently by perfectly pleasant staff. The staff were brilliant and deserve a medal in the way they dealt with a table of boorish Brits with no French or grace and certainly no appreciation of good food or wine - they were so awful that I felt complelled to apologise to the maitre d as we were leaving. Try the parfait fo duck breast with truffle and confit du canard absolutely brilliant. By the way - the hotel serves counrty style bread which may be tough but is certainly not stale.

Breakfast was buffet style with an amazing choice of cheese, meat, breads etc but if you like honey you are in for a treat there are around 20 different varieties.

Dinner bed and breakfast came to about E100, very good value for money

We spent just one night at this hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were welcoming and the turret room was spacious and comfortable with an a distinctive round bed. Slight niggles in the bathroom, where I had to reposition the shower door on its rollers and there was a small problem with the lavatory cistern. There was a tea tray in the room - very welcome, and a rarity in France! There was also a little carafe of a very agreeable home-made liqueur!
Dinner was first class - food and service excellent, and a very pleasant dining room.
At night there was absolute quiet and we slept very well.
Breakfast was entirely self-service with plenty on offer - it was served on a mezzanine which didn't quite have the atmosphere of the previous evening.
All in all this is a really good hotel, conveniently located about two hours from the Normandy coast - we hope to return.

Our second stay here, one night on the return to Cherbourg, was as delightful as the first two years ago. Even the weather was fine again. The hotel was offering an excellent package - dinner, bed & breakfast for 132 euros, for two people. The room was stylish and immaculate (with a kettle and hot-drink-making facilities). The staff, including la patronne (see other reviews below) were friendly and helpful. Dinner was delicious, accommodating a vegetarian presented no problem, and the puddings were lush. Personally, I'm happy to gather my own breakfast from the wide selection on offer, including about a dozen types of honey; and pouring one's own coffee is no hardship. We'll certainly try and stop here again, if the itinerary permits, another time.

Room Tip: Both our visits provided lovely rooms.

I was travelling with my 8 year old son. Booked this hotel as it was en route to Royan. I'll start with the good points and there are many: The hotel itself is lovely, beautifully designed and located. It is so so peaceful and the room was lovely and good value. I can honestly say that I had the best night's sleep there in years! Also, the breakfast was nice and reasonably good value. Lastly, the two French members of staff I came across were absolutely charming and wonderful with my little son. The bad points are these: The manageress who is an English midlander so unfriendly it verged on the rudeness. When booking over the telephone both my father and I spoke to her and both commented how rude she was. When I arrived with my son she was also rude. When it came to dinner I asked a very reasonable question of her to accommodate my son's taste as he is only 8 and it was as if I'd asked her to sack the chef and hire Ronald McDonald. They did just about accommodate him though which was OK. Another bad point is the food. I think that this hotel prides itself on the cuisine. It is trying to be good and is OK but don't expect excellence. Just for the hotel's management's information. I would not have written this but for the manageress' bad attitude.
