If you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay in Western Crete where you are guaranteed a warm welcome, fabulous food and beautiful surroundings then this is it.
Location: The hotel is is a very quiet location with no other hotels nearby and is right on the beach. Although the beach is lovely, it is not the most specuacular in Crete and was therefore completely deserted most of the time, which in my opinion is a good thing! The hotel is about a 5 minute drive from central Kissamos and is the perfect base for visiting all of the well know tourist areas (and truly fabulous beaches) such as Falasarna (10 minute drive), Balos beach (30 minutes along a very rocky road!) and Elafonisi. It is also about 30 minutes away from Chania. In my opinion, the location of the hotel could not be a better base for exploring Western Crete.
Hotel: The hotel looks very new and is immaculate. There is a gorgeous pool which goes straight onto the beach and there is also a small pool bar. The rooms are fairly spacious and the one we stayed in had a fridge and air conditionning (both of which worked!) and a lovely balcony. The room was cleaned and new towels given every day. Although there was a restaurant downstairs it was very quite and you couldn't hear any noise from the room. In fact, the only thing you can hear at night are the waves breaking on the beach!
The hotel is run by the most welcoming family imaginable- nothing was too much trouble and everyone went out of their way to help us with our questions. The son of the family (Adonis) was particularly helpful and his English is first class.
Food: Having read the guide book, the first couple of nights we went out to eat and found a couple of very nice restaurants. The Captain (down on the small quay) had fabulous fish but somewhat lacked the ambiance and atmosphere of the neighbouring restaurant where the food was not as good. We were aware that the hotel did serve food but it never seemed to be particularly busy and we didn't eat there until the last evening- what a shame! The food in hotel was the best we experienced during the whole 10 day holiday.! We had the ouzo plate which was essentially a large plate of fresh fish with an optional glass of ouzo which was absolutely fantastic. I really would advsie anyone staying there to eat there at least once as it really will be the best meal of your holiday!
In short, having stayed in numerous places in Greece, I would say that this is one of the best hidden gems in Greece, so much so that we are already planning our return visit in the Spring (and I never stay in the same place twice!) I would however advise you to book in advance of arriving as we initially tried to book other dates (about a week prior to arriving) and they were already full.
