“Authentic AND style”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

We stopped here mainly because I needed a toilet break. It looked very nice but I was a little afraid that it would be stylish but just the usual tourist food. I WAS WRONG!
The decor is stylish, tidy and well maintained. We sat by the waters edge where we could watch the fish in a pretty little harbour. We could see the resemblance of the owner with "Old man Tsegas" apparently it was his great great grandfather. Originally it was just a house and his gg grandmother would cook for the locals.
The menu was varied but obviously we had to have fish given the location. Prices ranged from 4 Euros to 50 Euros (for Lobster). Enough choice in each budget bracket without being overwhelming. We had a salad and small fry (translated as "smell"???) to share. I particularly appreciated that the waiter told us what was fresh and that the calamari was frozen.
The people near us had the seafood platter to share - it looked excellent but I hope they were hungry! Our fish was lovely and crisp so we only shared a little with the 4 cats who became our new best friends. For dessert I had the best yoghurt yet - it was so thick I initially thought he had brought me ice-cream by mistake.
Unlike all of the resort restaurants we have tried so far this is definitely one we would recommend and one we would return to given the opportunity.

“Nice Harbourside Taverna”
Reviewed 25 November 2012

Located on the main highway just west of Kissamos, Crete, on a small harbour, this small tavern/restuarant has a great menu and excellent prices. We stopped by early afternoon and enjoyed their calamari and a Greek salad, along with a couple of beers. Good food, good prices and a nice view of the harbour. Bathrooms were very clean. Worth a visit.
