“stunning Pavlis”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

We have just returned from Ormos, we stayed in the Pavlis Studios what a fantastic place it's high up above the village so the views were astounding we stayed in the studios facing the pool studio 7 ,so we not only had great all round views but we didn't have far to go for a swim .Every evening Mr Pavlis was there to make sure the pool was kept spotless and clean .The Village itself was wonderful and very peaceful and not busy at all some days only 4 couples on the water front .All the tavernas were really good, and all served traditional Greek food .On the harbour side there were 2 boats that took you out further round the coast for swimming and lunch on the boat it cost 29 euroes but it was a great day out setting off at 10 ish and back at 6 30 ish I really can recommend this trip . All in all we had a great time and would go back .The only thing is August is the windy month and can be very strong .it does keep the heat down which helps when sun bathing .We didn't do any trips we were happy to stay in ormos ,most of the time though we did catch the bus that took to 2 other beaches ,but if you go on the bus there is only 2 a day one at 10-30 from Ormos and returned at 5-15 in the evening. The cost was cheap costing 3 euroes for 2 of us each way.

Room Tip: When i go again I will avoid August due the the strong winds

Returned last night from these studios after 1 week with Sunvil. The previous reports are very much in line with our own views. Ormos is the harbour village of Marathokampos, a bigger village in the hills above. Its a traditional Greek fishing village and tourists were thin on the ground. Pavlis is in a stunning location and most of the time it was not windy, but when it was, it was breezy ! We were in one of the older, smaller studios which we actually preferred. The balcony was completely private and the views unbeatable. They are however overlooking the road up from the village which is not busy but as in most of Greece at weekends suffers noisy bikes zipping up the hill. All tavernas were excellent. Our favourite was Lekatis but for fish the very last one heading east(sorry the name escapes me) was cheapest by far. This village has a lot of cats and it was good to see that they were generally in good condition. Kate the Sunvil rep lives nearby in Votsalakia which is known as Kambos on maps, she is very well informed. There are no ATM's in Ormos. The one supermarket is excellent. Its open all year and well used by locals so prices are good too. Not many boat trips available and due to new taxes many boats laid up. We wanted to visit Fourni Is. but not enough tourists to make it viable. We did do the trip to Samiopoula, good day out inc. lunch 35e. We have only one negative comment. The paper bin in the loo was emptied only once during our stay. Overall very pleased with the Pavlis, many repeat clients here inc. ex Laskarina guests, clearly a high level of customer satisfaction.

We stayed here 15th-29th September 2011 and absolutely loved the Studio complex. It is situated on the headland with amazing views out to sea - think Mama Mia! We had one of the original 6 studios which faced south-east overlooking Mount Kerkis, Ormos village and harbour - a wonderful view when enjoying breakfast on the patio. The four front studios are newer, sea facing and available at a supplement, as is the room safe and air-con.The rooms are the normal Greek basic type but kept perfectly clean by Pavlis and his staff - the welcome hamper supplied by Sunvil had a good selection of items which meant that you didn't have to dash off to the shops on arrival.
The pool is a very good size with adequate sunbeds and Parasols but there is no pool bar which wasn't a problem for us. There is a good supply of reading books in the Studios office if you happen to run out! Ormos itself is only a 5minute walk away either by road or by taking a short cut down the 50 steps just below the Pavlis which brings you right out by the harbour and the amazingly well stocked Supermarket.
Ormos is delightful and feels traditionally Greek. There are two bakeries, a couple of gift shops, a couple of bars and 6 or 7 small Tavernas by the quayside - our favourites were Lefkatis and Angelas (just past the large" Anchor" at the far jetty) marvellous food and cooked fresh daily. The beach here is made up of large pebbles with a few sunbeds and parasols.
Votsalakia is situated in the next bay along and is a 20-30 minute walk from Pavlis and has a lovely 2km stretch of sandy beach - ideal for families with young children, plenty of sunbeds /parasols to be had at 5Euros a pair but often if you went and bought a drink from the owners bar first you got them for free. There isn't a real center to the Town as its just the one road behind the beach but there is a good selection of gift shops and I believe over 40 places to eat, our favourites being "Nick the Greek" where we had an amazing Mezze and "Christopetro" which luckily for us was only a 10minute walk away from the Pavlis studios on the way into Votsalakia .
Buses are very limited in this area so car hire is essential if you want to explore the other areas on Samos but we decided to just stay local and spent a lot of time walking the trails up to Marathokampos, the Water Reservoir and in the surrounding hills (leaflets available from the Sunvil Rep)
We flew with Tor-air which I believe is no longer in businss and that I can believe as the planes appeared so old but the Flight Crew were excellant as was the Sunvil Rep Kate who was very knowledgable about Samos and very helpful.

Would we return to the Pavlis - Yes, without hesitation but would choose the beginning of the month as things were beginning to close for the end of season!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the village were in the shade in the afternoons - perfect if its very hot!

I have never written a Trip Advisor review before, but with the limited number of reviews on this great place, and after having a truly great holiday here I felt it was my duty to tell the world how wonderful this place is!
We are a young couple of 28 and 36, and when we were choosing our holiday, it was kind of a last minute thing. We booked a week before leaving and didnt really have time to be too choosy. Being our 4th holiday of the year, we just wanted a lastminute deal to a lovely place to relax and chillout....and we were not disappointed!
When we arrived at Pavlis Studios, we were greated by Pavlis's daughter who showed us into our studio. We had asked our travel agent to guarantee us a top floor front facing room. There are two small blocks at Pavlis, one older block of 6 studios (3 on the ground floor, 3 on top), and a newer block of 4 rooms (2 ground and 2 top). The older block faces East and has views of the island and the harbour. The new block faces South and has 180 degree views of the village, harbour, sea and mountains. In our opinion, it is definitly worth the extra money to have the new studios, as you get a panoramic view and overlook the lovely pool too! (picture attached)
You recieve a welcome pack which was just what we needed. It included a bottle of wine, bread, butter, fruit, milk, tea and coffee, sugar, biscuits and washing up liquid. A lovely touch!
The Studios themselves were pretty basic, but arnt all Greek islands. But there was everything we could need. A spacious bedroom, cute little kitchen, bathroom and AMAZING balcony. The pool was just perfect, medium sized, and usually only us using it everyday. And how brilliant to be in a lovely pool, and also have the outstanding views of the sea and mountains - best of both worlds! The location of the studios was also ideal, with only a 3-5 min walk down some steps (prob not suitable for oldies or the unfit) into the beautiful fishing village of Ormos. This is what I think the true Greece is like, with very few tourists to spoil the lovely chilled atmosphere
The pool was cleaned every other day, and the rooms cleaned twice in the week.
Pavlis Studios are in the village of Ormos, which is a traditional village of 200 people. Sometimes it is quoted as being in Marathocampos. It is not. That is a village up in the mountains. Nor is it near to Votsolakia, which is a good 30 mins to the centre (but that town was actually a bit too touristy for us anyway)
I would not reccomend Ormos, or Pavlis studios for anyone who is looking for nightlife. This is a quiet fishing village with 4-5 resturants, 2 small bars, a couple of souvenir shops, a bakery and a small supermarket....and thats it! But for someone who wants to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery, explore a beautiful island and soak up the sun, this is the place to be! (we toured the island on a quad bike, and visited alot of other towns.... Ormos is definitly the most picturesque)
If I was pushed for a negative, the only thing I would comment on is the wind. I didnt know how windy the island would be as I hadnt read that on any reviews, and I mean it was pretty crazy winds at times. However, for us this was good as it took the edge off the heat, making 'all day' sunbathing easier....Hee Hee! But we did talk to a local guy and he said July didnt have any winds, but August was definitly making up for it!
All in all it was a perfect break for us! We highly reccomend Pavlis!

We spent 2 weeks at Pavlis Studios from Jun 23rd 2011. They are in a superb location, quiet, but with180 degree views of Ormos village (3 mins walk) in one direction and down the coast to Votsalakia (about 15 mins walk in the other). In between this you've got the full vista out to sea and Ormos harbour - wataching the small fishing boats going about their daily business. The appartment themselves, together with the pool are kept sportlessly clean by Pavlis and his staff. We had a front facing studio which did cost a little extra but was well worth it - we stepped straight out onto the pool area and had uninterupted views of the sea as we sat on our balcony. Ormos is a peaceful village with probably more locals than tourists which makes for a lovely atmosphere - the 6 or 7 seven tavernas and one low key bar along the harbour side are the eating and meeting place of the villagers - many of whom are fishermen who will bring their prize catch into the restaurants (a metre long swordfish one night we were there). We were spending around 25-35 euros on dinner for two which included a beer and wine. Ormos has all you will really need for a quiet holiday - 2 excellent bakeries, a mini market, car hire, and a limited bus service. We did a couple of lovely walks - one up to the mountain village of Marathakampos. We walked to the beach (a small bay with sunbeds and brollies - 5 euros /day) We also walked allong the coast to the resort of Votsalakia which is more geared for tourists (though not tacky) having many more tavernas and a few more shops - but we felt less atmosphere as there is no real centre - more a staggle of tavernas along a 2k stretch of the beach. We hired a car for 3 days to look around the island as it was our first visit to Samos - the island really is stunning (more so than many other Greek islands we've visited) and I would recommend it to anyone.

We booked the Pavlis via Sunvil, and was very happy with it. The studios are on a hill above the harbour, so have great views of the harbour, plus panoramic views of the sea and nearby islands to the side. The views are so good it was difficult to tear ouselves away from the balcony. We had a corner room in the older section, but we assume all rooms would have almost as good views. The newer rooms have full frontal sea views. The owner was really friendly and unobtrusive. We loved it!

The room was a better end Greek studio, bathroom was spacious and relatively new, kitchen area well equipped, beds very comfortable.
Swimming pool had lovely views over the sea, but could be windy as it's on a hill.

Ormos harbour is lovely, lots of friendly local people, not many tourists considering it was end July. About 7 or 8 tavernas, all good (we tried them all!) and 1 bar. Bus service is quite limited but nearby beaches were perfect - quiet with good beds. Good baker in the harbour village.

Great mountainous backdrop. We want to return asap!
