“Wonderfull stay”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

a absolutely great hotel. though it was under some reconstruction which we didnt notice much, it earns their 5star evaluation to the staff and cozy rooms.
we went in last week of skiing season and there wasnt much business which allowed the staff to pay full attention to us and our to small boys aged 1 and 4.
the food was good, but not extravagant. clean and stylish hotel.
shuttle bus to ski just out the frontdoor, close to shoppingarea, next door to big indoor-playarea.
all in all - best choice we made
will come back !

To walk in ski boots Located far enough away from the ski slopes. We used the free shuttle (5 minutes). Rooms are large, there is everything you need. Breakfast is sufficient to start the day. The atmosphere is very cozy. I liked everything

This hotel is cute and cosy and offers all you need for a great ski trip. We opted for full board which was excellent value, full buffet breakfast, set lunch (always tasty ) , with option to eat a set meal at gaiastova on mountain top if you prefer -its lovely but you'll need to ski back down if you dont have a car or wait till 5pm for a bus...we skiied down with a young child and it was a bit of a trek!! Dinners were 3 course with choice of main and always fantastic... vension, salmon, etc. Coffee/ tea/hot choc available with all meals. Wine/beer are very expensive in Norway so we didnt drink much. taxis were crazy too - about 55 euros from lillehammer to hafjell, only 15km! Otherwise ski hire, lift pass etc was on par with alps. Our room was pretty small as the sofa bed was out for our son but had everything and was plenty warm. short 10 min walk from hotel to alpine centre on good footpaths. Our son went to barneland ski school for 4-6 year olds and it was excellent, no other english speaking kids at time but instructors were very nice and he liked it a lot + came on so much at skiing after 4 days. We hired ski gear from skibua and stored it at alpine centre lockers. You can store skis at hotel but only makes sense if you have a car. If we were going back i would consider car hire as waiting on buses in the freezing cold is not a lot of fun and they left early at times!! You would also have more freedom to visit places like the bob sleigh track (we did this and its fun!) and hunderfossen (only opened on our last day so didnt get to it). Skiing was great - not busy, gorgeous scenery, not too cold and excellent for improvers. At top of gondola there is a beautiful green run through the forest and a kids area + family slopes at the bottom . Also night skiing is great -4.30 - 8pm. Super holiday!!

Room Tip: for more than 1 kid i think family room would be better

We were very happy with our choice of hotel. We opted for the full board deal which was well worth the money (considering the cost of everything in Norway!). The hotel food was very good and the lunch ticket for the mountain top restaurant was also great value. The hotel is in a great location being just a 1 minute bus ride from the alpine centre with Ottoman the bus driver (if you watch the Simpsons you'll know what I mean!) No complaints about the rooms as everything was up to standard. The hotel staff were very helpful and were happy to let us check out a couple of hours late which gave us an extra morning skiing. The skiing was great with excellent facilities, fantastic snow, no lift queues and quiet slopes. Can't wait to go back!

This hotel is just 10 minutes walk away from the ski lifts which is very convenient. The free internet was also good. However, the rooms were not particularly clean and the hotel felt understaffed. However, this was during the X-Mas, New Year period when staff may have been on holiday themselves.

Stayed in the main hotel in the centre of the resort, with two other couples and 2 teenagers for Christmas 2011. Very friendly and helpful.

Hotel food pretty good with good selection at breakfast and interesting evening meals. The Christmas buffet was really excellent. Rooms sometimes too hot (!) but comfortable, all with family sofa bed as well as twin beds that could be pushed together. Big lounge area, free but slow internet (like almost everywhere in Norway). For a 3* it was pretty good overall.

Hotel is very family friendly, although there weren't many guests, most were Norwegians celebrating Christmas.

For adults, not a lot provided in the evenings, which are long in December, and not much to do in the village, so travel prepared (we didn't!)

Hotel is about 700 m from lifts, easy walk along the road and lockers available at the ski station (book at the ticket office and add to your liftpass). Shuttle bus runs from Christmas onwards.

Skibua provided quality equipment and very friendly.

Woody's bar is the local English apres ski bar, with the cheapest beer we found in Norway, only Kr65 (Kr74-79 seems about average for 0.5 l!).

Hafjell is a friendly, small resort, with good if limited skiing, good snow, if a little thin this year, and we enjoyed mainly sunny weather with temps between -10 and 0 C. The liftpass gives you access to 4 other ski areas, so use the shuttle busses to get some extra variety.

Plenty of cross country skiiing, opportunity to learn telemark, compete on slalom courses with the local kids and experience low altitude skiing on very different snow to what you will find in the Alps.

If you think you are fearless, then try the olympic taxi bob or skeleton at the nearby olympic run. Undoubtedly the scariest thing I have done for many years, but wow what a memory!

We travelled independently, and the train service from Oslo Airport was excellent, as were the local busses and taxis.

Overall, if you don't drink alcohol, a skiing holiday here is probably about the same price as an Alpine ski resort.

Room Tip: 118 is bigger than most.
