“A tranquil home from home”

I have stayed twice at Casa Cuatro for long spells in winter time (three months on the last occasion!) and have already booked a third visit. I can recommend it very highly. I am a writer and a golfer, and the combination of a quiet place to work (mornings) and a golfing paradise on the doorstep (afternoons) is perfect for me. David is a reliable, friendly and efficient owner, and everything has gone very smoothly so far. The previous reviews have covered many of the attractions and positive aspects of this house. Just a couple of comments: there are no tennis courts within walking distance - the courts are for 'padel tenis', a Spanish game which combines elements of squash and tennis. If you want to play tennis the old-fashioned way (which I do) there are courts available for hire in Alhaurin de la Torre, and half an hour's drive away near Mijas is the friendly Lew Hoad Tennis Club, where they have roll-up games three days a week. I've never swum in the pool at Lauro, since I've been there in the cooler winter months, but there's a spanking new indoor pool for serious swimming in Alhaurin de la Torre (although the opening hours are a little mysterious). There is a bowling green at Lauro too, although I haven't used it.
On the subject of broadband, a connection inside the house would be a bonus. There is free broadband a couple of hundred yards away at the clubhouse, but the connection is slow if there are several users, and you have to sit outdoors (under a roof!) This can be extremely cold in February, as I have discovered! For holiday visits without only occasional need to go online, the set up is perfectly okay. I agree that a hire car is essential. I would suggest that small children prone to falls would find the stairs and marble floors unforgiving - but the same could be said for most Spanish apartments and houses. To sum up - this place is a real treasure - a peaceful setting with great amenities nearby, and good access to the airport, Malaga, and the coast. It's an easy drive too to Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Ronda and Gibraltar. Go ahead and book with confidence!

“Great place, even if you don't like Golf!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013 for a stay in August 2012

This house was recommended by a family friend and I was initially sceptical because we don’t play golf. However, we soon learned that there is more here than just the golf. The house overlooks the first tee and the occasional sound of golf balls being struck from the other side of the garden is actually quite relaxing.

We are a family of 5 and we fitted inside quite comfortably. There’s 2 good-sized bedrooms and both have en-suite bathrooms. Upstairs on the top-level is a small 3rd bedroom with futon bed. We didn’t try it but it looks like it would sleep 2 adults comfortably. This room wouldn’t be suitable for small children, though, because of the steep stairs.

The house is in very good order throughout – there wasn’t really any signs of wear and tear and the kitchen and bathrooms (always my bugbear with hotels or holiday aparments!) were excellent and spotless.

We ate at home a few times and there was everything we needed – modern kitchen (with dishwasher and washing machine), TV (British channels only) and DVD player.

I suppose having a WiFi connection inside the house would be useful but you can pick up free WiFi if you go along to the clubhouse (2 mins walk). Inside the decor appears to be designed for the hot summers – neutral colours and cool floors. Probably our favourite part of the house was the view from the top patio – views over the golf course and the beautiful weeping willow trees across to mountain ranges.
The only thing missing was a barbeque to enjoy on the garden patio – we noticed enviously that some of the neighbours had them! There did appear to be cots and highchairs for young children (though we didn’t need them) but the unforgiving floors and steep stairs might be a worry for young children.

Lauro Golf itself was just lovely – there aren’t a great deal of amenities but it was sufficient for our needs. We tended to alternate between days staying at home and days out in the car to the beach (15 mins drive from the house). The pool is a short walk from the house and is shared with the other houses and apartments but was never too crowded. There were a number of other families (mostly British and Spanish) so our kids had a few others to play with but mosly the pool area was fairly tranquil. There was no lifeguard, kids’ clubs or water slide so older children may find it a little tame but our kids (ages 2 – 8) were happy to play with the other kids and a few inflatables. There’s an English-run bar next to the pool and the golf clubhouse is just across from that.

The clubhouse has a lovely outdoor courtyard and restaurant (pizza/pasta) while the bar next to the pool also serves food throughout the day. Both restaurants are open until about 10pm. We found both the food and service in both restaurants to be good and prices reasonable (from memory about 8 – 10 Euros for a pizza or a main course).

Although it’s not far from the airport you do really need to hire a car – the site is located between 2 towns and it was at least a 5 minute drive to reach either of them. We did see a bus stop nearby, though. The 2 nearby towns are both nice, small towns with pleasant atmospheres – there’s a number of very good restaurants and ice-cream parlours in both.

Malaga is around 20 minutes drive away and is highly recommended for a visit to the old town and Moorish ruins, along with the Picasso museum. The nearest beach is 15 mins drive away at Torremelinos – you can park right opposite the beach for 1 euro – but we drove the other way along the coast and found a couple of other, more Spanish, resorts which were equally pleasant.

Overall, this is a beautiful and tranquil place to stay. It was perfect as a base to explore the local area and as a place to while away the afternoon.

What can I say; that was a magnificent review, so thorough and honest. It was so well written, just like from the pages of a travel magazine, you could easily become a travel writer. Your comments and advice will be of enormous help to others. We're very lucky to have Casa Cuatro and we like sharing it with people like you, who appreciate the house, the surroundings and that lovely part of Spain. Thank you so much for the effort you've made and your comments and we hope to see you again soon.
Best wishes,
David and Jackie.

“A perfect holiday for all, quiet idylic setting but close to beaches.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We wanted a quiet, non rock and roll, location with access when wanted to a nearby town and beaches. The setting is superb, the garden abutting the 1st tee of the golf course, a pool and tennis courts within walking distances The food at the club house is good qality and available all day. The villa is modern, spacious, very well kept and has everything to make your holiday one to remember. The provision of bikes was an extra but be aware of the very steep hills in the area. Have been several times and going again October 13. Pat Carragher.
