“Charming restaurant with rooms off the piste”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

Jean and Michela have restored the ancient family home her grandparents had to leave in the 50s, and have done a stunning job. It's still very much a family home, in an old Walser farming hamlet. There's a bar and restaurant off the piste (above the Crest, do call in for lunch or a drink if you are in Champoluc or on the way over from Gressoney or Alagna), and four very comfortable rooms, with a shared balcony (great view). The food is terrific and they do a very reasonable half board option, or you can at a push get into town in the evening (the lifts are open every few hours, and they'll drop off and pick up in the skidoo at the top of the gondola from Champoluc. Only things to be aware of: you can only get baggage in and out when the pistes are shut (they use a skidoo to collect and drop off at the top of the first lift) and the traverse to the piste won't suit beginners. It would be a fantastic place to take over as a group if you could book all four rooms.

We spent a week here as a party of 6 adults as part of a ski package with Ski2. From the moment we were met at the gondola for the skidoo ride up to the hotel all of our needs were met. The place has a very specila atmosphere. Michela and Jean have created something very special. We received a fantastic service from them and all their staff. The food was excellent with a choice of 6 or 7 dishes at each course. We all looked forward to our dinner each evening. The rooms were very comfortable and traditionally decorated.
It is truly ski in/ski out accommodation with an easy short run down a red to the gondola at Crest.
It was lovely to be up on the mountain after everyone else had made their way down the mountain.

A fantastic place to stay, ideal for a ski break, with the location in a beautiful part of the valley. The staff were excellent and very friendly and the whole stay was superb value. If you are looking for easy access to the piste or to go walking, then the location doesn't get any better!

Came here in January 2014 with my husband and 4 other family members. We had booked as part of our ski trip with Ski2. The hotel is way up in the mountains, is in a fantastic position for skiing since you just put on your skis and head off in the morning. The rooms were traditionally decorated, cosy and comfortable. The area is quiet and the view of the stars each evening with no light pollution is breathtaking. Without exception every member of staff and the owners Michela and Jean, made us feel very welcome. The food was something to especially look forward each day with tasters from the chef to start our evening and specials throughout the week. We had a truly brilliant week and have fond memories of staying at L'Aroula.

L’Aroula is a fantastic place in a very small Cuneaz village. You can reach the hut with your skis on; it is located 200 mt down on right by the Ostafa 1 piste.
The rooms are perfect in every detail all in wood…. very hot and believe me with
-6 degrees in the winter is very pleasant.
We chose the half-board included dinner and... the food, the table service, the company and the environment are 5 star hotel! Jean, Michela and the guys who work with them are fantastic and very friendly. Good job Jean and Michela for creating this paradise. We will back...

Reviewed 14 April 2013

My wife and I stayed here first week of April. L’Aroula is beautiful. Jean and Michela have had this old refuge rebuilt and restored and the quality and craftsmanship of all the work is amazing.

Position: In the tiny hamlet of Cuneaz, near Champoluc in the Aosta Valley. L’Aroula is ski in/out. It is right by the Ostafa 1 piste, an easy red run down to the top of the Crest gondola.

To get there: You need to take the gondola from Champoluc up to Crest. If you have luggage Jean can meet you (after 5pm) at Crest and take you to L’Aroula by skidoo. Or you can walk it is about 20 walk minutes from the top of the Crest Gondola. The gondola runs from 0800am to 5.00pm and then hourly untill 11pm.

The rooms: are beautiful. The attention to detail is amazing. Beautiful views of the mountain from the windows. Nice firm bed, good quality linen and spotlessly clean.

The food: Dinner is a 4 course menu with 6 or 7 choices in each course. If staying half board you can choose what you like from the menu. Everything is fresh and the standard of cooking is very good indeed. Good wine list too.

Service: very friendly – Alessio and Jean will meet your every need (we didn’t meet Michela as she had just given birth to her 2nd baby).

The skiing: Excellent for intermediates, easy red runs and the few blacks are easy too. Most lifts are fast 4 packs and there are no drag lifts at all in the whole resort. The scenery is amazing - great views of Matterhorn (Mt Cervino) and one direction and Mt Blanc etc in another.

Mountain restaurants: Wide choice and we had very good lunches every day average Euros 25 for two main courses and two soft drinks. A simple coffee Euro 1 everywhere – so about half the price of most French resorts, and the food is better too in our opinion.

All in all – everything was wonderful and we will return to Champoluc, and especially to Rifugio L’Aroula. Thanks Jean and Michels!
