Are stay was pleasant the staff were nice friendly and very welcoming. Nothing was a problem. We were travelling at night and it was a nightmare to find as on google maps it wasn't where it said on there.
We ate at the restaurant, the food was lovely but very over priced. Rooms were nice but we had a bed that was up some metal stairs and on a metal floor was looked lovely but not very good with bare feet luckily I found slippers in the wardrobe to wear but only one pair.
Breakfast was poor cheese hard bread and biscuits. Coffee nice though. One of the staff was concerned we hadn't eaten anything so he very kindly got us some fruit which they don't normally do in the morning.
Overall this was a lovely hotel but not for us and would suit older people.

Perhaps the best restaurant in Calabria and the hotel was welcoming and the accomodation carefully thought through. The location on the edge of Castrovillari is perhaps not great but the garden makes up for that. A memorable stay.

We had one of our two best meals in Italy at this lovely restaurant, attended by the most engaging staff imaginable. They were attentive and fun, and generous. The waiter, noticing my husband's love for the home-baked bread, packaged up three napkins full of it for the drive to our next stop. And, when the staff poured my generous glass of wine and there was only a half glass left in the bottle, they just put the bottle in front of me. Try the pork with fruit on the menu.
The location of the locanda is a very short walk into town, so easy to navigate for anything you need, or if you're crazy enough to not keep coming back to the Alia restaurant.
The rooms were very pleasant and quiet and well kept, though not luxurious. Some rooms have small terraces looking onto a courtyard that is rather nondescript, so this could be an improvement for the hotel. Even better would be arranging seating in the pretty areas outside the entrances to the rooms, where you look out at trees bursting with flowers and pomegranates.
Best of all were the staff, who became family very quickly. They joked with us, taught us new Italian phrases, offered us locally made liqueurs, introduced us to the local wines, and helped in a dozen different ways.

Set on the edge of the small town, it looks like an urban area when you first arrive. But once in, you get fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. It certainly isn't 2 km away from the centre of town as stated by one reviewer and took just over 10 minutes to walk in to town and we saw no sign of rubbish in the street. The surrounding neighbourhood was fine, and I can only assume that the earlier writer has not travelled much in mainland European towns.. Yes, the place could do with a bit of a spruce up, and the pool looked very mucky and uninviting, but the beds were comfortable, our suite a good size and good value, and very quiet location. We would be happy to stay again.

The staff were charming and on meeting us by chance in the town, went out of their way to recommend walks for us. We loved the little town - untouristy and a bit scruffy but this is the Mezzogiorno.

Food was excellent for our evening meal, and very reasonably priced for what we had. Breakfast wasn't that great, but in line with typical Italian breakfasts in places perhaps not used to international travellers

We came to the hotel following a really enjoyable two weeks experiencing the delights of Calabria. The hotel was tucked away 2km out of town in scrubby suburbs behind apartment blocks, with rubbish in the street outside. The hotel reception, bar, lounge and restaurant were stuffy - reminiscent of decrepit US motels. The garden and pool were an absolute disgrace - we had hoped for a cool drink in the garden by the pool following a long drive. Sadly the pool was dirty, tired and with flaking paintwork - an eyesore. The gardens were unkempt and scrubby a disgrace. The chalet style rooms were dated in the 1950s with a mezzanine floor made of laced iron work that were painful to walk on and unsafe. How this acquired any stars is a mystery.
We had hoped that the restaurant would redeem the place - sadly not, a poor menu choice and an extension of the claustrophobic, oppressive, unlived in stuffy atmosphere. we couldn't bring ourselves to eat dinner or breakfast in the place. Never again

Lovely little restaurant well stocked with wine and nice staff. Amazing food you don't want to miss. We drove for hours to get there to do nothing but taste their food. It turned out to be a very wise decision. We decided to stay long enough to be able to have lunch the next day before leaving. Rooms are ok, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The dinner at the Locanda was the most memorable of our 2 week trip to southern Italy (including Michelin one star restaurants). The menu is varied and the dishes outstanding, prepared with local ingredients and local herbs! We were there on a cold and rainy evening and morning and could not enjoy the garden and pool. The room was comfortable and very quiet. We liked the artistic aspects of the place. The breakfast is also excellent with all homemade jams and biscotti. Definitely worth a detour, especially for foodies.
