“GREAT STAFF, Good food, great range of pools”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

I travelled to Playa Mar in April 2012
Family holiday with 2 kids age 8 and 5
Tha apartment was comfortable, loads of cupboard space.

Didn't really use the kitchen except to make hot drinks.
Kids club not really running as it starts in May.

Lovely resort very quite no bars etc.. which is why we chose it.

Food in the restaurant was good the staff in the restaurant were great.
I am vegetarian and they would offer to make pasta sauce without meat.

The pools outside were good with the slides and when it was cold we used the indoor pool.
Which is very deep with no shallow end. Fine if you can swim.
It was a lovely pool.

My kids loved the park on site and made loads of friends.

Beach a very short walk away. Very Picturesque walking along the pine walk into Puerto Pollensa.

would definately return

We stayed at this hotel in April this year. It was the best family hotel we have stayed at. The hotel is situated a few minutes walk from the "Pine Walk" in Puerto Pollensa where there are bars and restaurants further down the walk. A very picturesque place all along the walk.
My wife and I took my 12 year old Grandson to this hotel for Easter week where we found the rooms very spotlessly clean and very well maintained. All the staff were extremely helpful all the time. The Hotel had a large pool which was separated into two sections one for the younger members and the other for the older. It also had a section where there are two giant animals (a cow and a crab) which had water chutes and fountains built into them, one for 6 to 12 years old and the other for up to 6 year old.
There was also a Spar which was incredible. It had a steam room, Jacuzzi, a very large pool which was heated and a number of other facilities within the Spar, very, very impressive. You have to wear blue hats (2 Euros each) but can be used over again.
The restaurant is also very impressive and the staff go out of their way to assist you. We got friendly with Donna a Scots waitress who went out of her way to assist you. She was tremendous and very friendly to the guests, look out for her. Purchase the "house wine" at 4 Euros a bottle, very tasty and very reasonable.
The evening entertainment was very professional and the team really put on a good show.
We will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone with a family.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We booked via Thomson as a last minute deal to go away over the Easter break, and having read the other reviews were sure we would get a good hotel. We were over the moon when we arrived, everything we had seen, been told and expected was true, and more.

The hotel has a brand new spa complex which as guests we were able to use, very well done and a lovely extra. The pool area was lovely and we felt very comfortable and if we felt like a walk to the beach, it is only a few mins away.

Some people have mentioned the small kitchen in the apartments, they re small but very well equipped for what you need, this is not a negative, you can do all you need in them, and more.

The only complaint I have, if any is that it is truly a family complex, and we went as a couple, there were other couples there but all the entertainment was aimed towards children. That said, the staff were all very friendly, and nothing was too much bother for them, they took he time to get to know us and we really felt they put the effort in.

Overall amazing, we are planning on retuning next year with friends who have children.

We've just returned from a week at the Playa Mar, having had a fantastic time. We were travelling with a toddler (almost 2 yrs old) and it was the perfect place for us. The variety of pools were great and the shallow sloping toddler pool was an absolute favourite for our little boy; bigger children were playing in the other areas so it was safe and calm (if a little chilly). Our room was a good size and it was nice to have the lounge area and balcony to sit in the evening when he was asleep.

There have clearly been attempts to modernise with soft furnishings and flat screen tvs, the apartment would be just perfect with a few little tweaks (esp new clean shower screen and some attention to lamps/lights).

The public areas of the hotel are smart and clean, the restaurant, reception and bar/entertainment area were all lovely. The new indoor pool / spa is great. Children are only allowed in between 12 and 4 pm and everyone has to wear a swimcap (can be bought for 2€ each) The main pool is very very deep, so less suited to children but a good place to go if it rains. The hotel also has a brilliant little playground with climbing equipment and slides.

We were staying on a half board basis and we all ate well, there was a good variety of food and perfect if you are travelling with young children. Filtered water provided free at all meals, brilliant for topping up children's water bottles for the day. Lots of fresh fruit and plenty of cake! Drinks were not expensive 4€ for a bottle of house wine which they would keep for you to drink over a few nights if you wanted!

Puerto Pollensa was a pleasant 20 minute stroll down the pine walk where there were plenty of different restaurants and supermarkets. The mini market on site was open from 8.30 - lunchtime daily.

Evening entertainment began with the minidisco (we're still humming the Beep Beep Bop song) which was well run and not too loud for the little ones. Shortly after, the evening entertainment began, a mixed bag of singers, magicians and comedy acts.

Staff were really friendly as were the other holiday makers that we met at the Playa Mar. We would definitely stay here again.

We are just back from a week in Majorca staying at the Playa Mar. Staff were so helpful and couldnt do enough to help. The Thomson rep was so knowledgeable about the island. Our room was clean and fresh with sliding doors from the lounge and bedroom out onto the balcony. Can't recommend this place enough and as for Majorca...wonderful magical place and we will be back!

What a great place to stay, so early in the season (April 2012), we couldn't really ask for much more! Puerto Pollensa is a charming area to the North of the Island. We stayed in the superbly run family centred hotel that is the Playa Mar and we were pleasantly surprised. A great location just a few minutes walk to the beach or bay, and start of the "Pine Walk" which is a lovely scenic walk along the bay 15 minutes away from the port centre. April is the start of the season so it was relatively quiet, very scenic with a laid back feel. (Pine walk paving - not great for pushchairs!)
As a family of four with two children, aged 3 and 13 with very different needs they were both adequately catered for at the hotel. Our 13 year old emersed himself in table tennis darts and shooting tournaments with the super animation team, whilst our 3 year year old enjoyed the pool area and the slightly imposing water slides. Staff were warm and friendly, very helpful and super efficient. The hotel was spotlessley clean, the pool area, restaurant bar area were pristine and the new Spa facilities and treatment rooms provided a five star experience, the spa with indoor pool itself was free to use, and welcomed children at certain times of the day.
Our 3 year year old has some difficulties with his mobility, and uses a disability buggy so we asked for a ground floor apartment which worked well for us. I was extremely impressed at how accessible the hotel was - ramps and lifts everywhere - ideal for wheelchair users. Our room was pool facing which as it was low season was fine, we did wonder whether this would prove too noisy in the height of the season, with a fully occupied hotel. The evening entertainment was fairly loud and intrusive, and there was no escaping the music and animation teams PA system til late. This was fine for us but its worth considering if you prefer quieter evenings.
The rooms themselves were of a good standard, with a well equipped kitchenette, microwave kettle toaster electric two ring (no oven) and fridge as standard. Linen, towels and bedding were all of a good quality.
We chose the half board option and found there to be a good variety of food, we particularly enjoyed the fruit and salad selections and freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast! We found that both our boys ate very well with a great range of fish, meat or vegetarian choices each day. Snacks icecreams and drinks purchased at the hotel outside mealtimes were all very well priced. There was a supermarket on site open until midday and larger stores within 10 minute walk and prices were reasonable.
Overall this was an excellent week away early in the season, which may have counted towards the experience. I would be happily recommend Playa Mar to family and friends, and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Pool facing rooms may be a little noisy, particularly at night during the entertainment sessions.

We stayed at the Playa Mar during the first week of April 2012. The hotel was excellent, the staff in reception were very welcoming and after the first five minutes of being there we regretted only booking for a week. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The buildings were all very clean, as were the lifts and stair ways.
The room we had was on the first floor of block 2, we had a room with a lovely mountain view and although we stayed on a half board basis found that the self catering facilities were more than adequate. The size of the room was generous with two wardrobes, a large bathroom, a large bedroom with balcony access, a spacious main sitting area with sofa bed, table and chairs and television. The maid service was very good with the apartment being cleaned 5 days out of the week and fresh linen and towels provided 3 times. We had no issues with the standard of cleaning.
Although we did not use the pool area during our stay, as we are more of an exploring couple, the facilities provided for children and adults seemed well maintained and plentiful.
The restaurant was lovely, the staff were very friendly and worked extremely hard. The food was of a high standard, with lots of variety and choice over the week, with specific vegetarian dishes cooked and kept separate from the meat dishes. The range of breakfast dishes was extensive with yogurts and spreads sitting on ice to keep them fresh! Whether you fancied a full English breakfast, a healthy option or a more sweet start to the day there was always plenty of choice and food was continually being cooked and brought out by the friendly chefs. In addition, we took advantage of the restaurant serving a snack for lunch on several occasions and found the food to be of high standard, filling and very reasonable.
The entertainment provision seemed to begin toward the middle of our stay. The team of entertainers were polite and spoke whenever we saw them. The programme of activities seemed varied and catered for both children and adults. There was a live singing duo on one of the nights and they were superb!
We found the resort of Port de Pollenca to be lovely, very clean and tidy. From the hotel to the main resort of Port de Pollenca it took us approx. 20 minutes when walking down Pine Walk. We used the public bus services from the resort centre to other parts of the Island and found these both easy to use and reasonably priced.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would highly recommend Playa Mar and Port de Pollenca to other couples and families.
