We have just returned from our fourth visit in 3 years and felt it was time to update our previous review. Before booking we did think if we should try somewhere else but we did have a "if it aunt broke don’t fix" approach and we are so glad we went back again. They did everything they could to get us the room that we wanted and to be met with fruit and cava was welcome after an early start. Our room was at the back of block two on the first floor and had wonderful views of the mountains and it caught the evening sun which was great. The rooms were as before and if we are being critical the bathroom in particular could do with updating and was looking a little tired but we don’t go back for the presentation of the bathroom which was always kept clean by the daily visits from the cleaners (platters of fresh fruit left in our room welcoming our return from the management was also a nice touch)
This time we went self catering hearing that last year a family saved a fair bit of money upgrading at the hotel rather than through Thompson. We did toy with this but in the end plumped for half board which offered more flexibility. Effectively you saved money by upgrading for in excess of three days but you could use the voucher when you wanted so upgraded for five days out of the 14 day holiday which suited us well so we could dip in and out when you wanted. We did however find the drinks expensive and a large beer costing £3.00. It was just as far to walk to the attached minimarket and buy large cans for £1.00 so we did this more often that not. We would recommend shopping outside of the hotel and with careful planning you can reduce the food bill i.e. milk, beers, water and cereal by half if you purchase a bit further out at a spar or something. However you could by bottles of house wind for 4 Euros and it was quite drinkable. People moan about the sun beds and we did experience problems although this was because we wanted to be in a very specific place which was facing the shallow pool without the slides. If you didn’t want this highly prized position then generally beds were available anywhere up to about 8.30am, the hotel food is a cut above the norm and they work hard to insure things don’t become repetitive although if you do two weeks you might tyre of it but the quality is very good. The staff in the restaurant are superb and Donna and Tolo in particular were very welcoming, a view shared by everyone we spoke to. Our son took quite a shine to one of the waitresses and her to him but I can’t remember her name (sorry).
This resort for us is great and we took advantage of being self catering by eating out a lot:
Pescador which is the second restaurant you come to when walking into town was great for early morning coffees and ice cream and we ate a very good mixta paella and found it both very friendly and reasonable priced. If you want something a little more romantic Capri and Stay were both excellent and cooked some cracking fish suppers but bet on round £100 for dinner including a good wine. We also ate at Sinbad’s for lunch which is next to the bus garage and regret not having the time to go back for an evening meal here as it looked and tasted like the most authentic Mallorcan restaurant in Pollensa. Lots of tapas but the restaurant we most enjoyed was actually not on the sea front and was situated on the right as you come out of the hotel attached to a Spar on the main road admittedly not the most postcard perfect place but the they play chilled ibiza type music and the tapas is great. Could recommend it enough although stay away form Dakota, one of the most expensive meals and the worst.
Finally the Thompson reps who were all excellent - they work so hard to engage with the kids and from the kids club to the evening entertainment I couldn’t fault them. Thank you to everyone for another fantastic year and no doubt we will be back again. I believe several other family members have already booked for May!!
