We have just returned from our fourth visit in 3 years and felt it was time to update our previous review. Before booking we did think if we should try somewhere else but we did have a "if it aunt broke don’t fix" approach and we are so glad we went back again. They did everything they could to get us the room that we wanted and to be met with fruit and cava was welcome after an early start. Our room was at the back of block two on the first floor and had wonderful views of the mountains and it caught the evening sun which was great. The rooms were as before and if we are being critical the bathroom in particular could do with updating and was looking a little tired but we don’t go back for the presentation of the bathroom which was always kept clean by the daily visits from the cleaners (platters of fresh fruit left in our room welcoming our return from the management was also a nice touch)

This time we went self catering hearing that last year a family saved a fair bit of money upgrading at the hotel rather than through Thompson. We did toy with this but in the end plumped for half board which offered more flexibility. Effectively you saved money by upgrading for in excess of three days but you could use the voucher when you wanted so upgraded for five days out of the 14 day holiday which suited us well so we could dip in and out when you wanted. We did however find the drinks expensive and a large beer costing £3.00. It was just as far to walk to the attached minimarket and buy large cans for £1.00 so we did this more often that not. We would recommend shopping outside of the hotel and with careful planning you can reduce the food bill i.e. milk, beers, water and cereal by half if you purchase a bit further out at a spar or something. However you could by bottles of house wind for 4 Euros and it was quite drinkable. People moan about the sun beds and we did experience problems although this was because we wanted to be in a very specific place which was facing the shallow pool without the slides. If you didn’t want this highly prized position then generally beds were available anywhere up to about 8.30am, the hotel food is a cut above the norm and they work hard to insure things don’t become repetitive although if you do two weeks you might tyre of it but the quality is very good. The staff in the restaurant are superb and Donna and Tolo in particular were very welcoming, a view shared by everyone we spoke to. Our son took quite a shine to one of the waitresses and her to him but I can’t remember her name (sorry).

This resort for us is great and we took advantage of being self catering by eating out a lot:

Pescador which is the second restaurant you come to when walking into town was great for early morning coffees and ice cream and we ate a very good mixta paella and found it both very friendly and reasonable priced. If you want something a little more romantic Capri and Stay were both excellent and cooked some cracking fish suppers but bet on round £100 for dinner including a good wine. We also ate at Sinbad’s for lunch which is next to the bus garage and regret not having the time to go back for an evening meal here as it looked and tasted like the most authentic Mallorcan restaurant in Pollensa. Lots of tapas but the restaurant we most enjoyed was actually not on the sea front and was situated on the right as you come out of the hotel attached to a Spar on the main road admittedly not the most postcard perfect place but the they play chilled ibiza type music and the tapas is great. Could recommend it enough although stay away form Dakota, one of the most expensive meals and the worst.

Finally the Thompson reps who were all excellent - they work so hard to engage with the kids and from the kids club to the evening entertainment I couldn’t fault them. Thank you to everyone for another fantastic year and no doubt we will be back again. I believe several other family members have already booked for May!!

Room Tip: We always have either block one or two at the back on either the 1st or 2nd floor as it's a bit...

We just returned from 1 week in Playa Mar 2nd-9th July. We upgraded on arrival to all inclusive 29 euro per adult and 14.50 per kid under 2 are free. We were two adults and 3 kids (6,5 and 18 months). The arrival was handled very well and fast. We were given all info we needed. The apartment was a good size, we had a cot in our room. We requested a quiet room and we got one which was another bonus. The maid was excellent and cleaned every day if needed we did request some days no cleaning as not required. The facilites in the room were all working as should be. Small kitchen but expected. The staff are the real difference here as they go that extra mile each and every time. They always had smiles on their faces. The first night the manager helped with our bags. The restaurant, bar, reception all deserve awards. The pools are brill for kids as the small slide is safe, small pool area just perfect for young kids as not too deep. The crab was huge hit with one of my kids must have been down it hundreds of times. The food is very good with lots of choice. You can mix it up whatever way you want which is perfect. All my family enjoyed the different dishes and the mexican theme night was good fun. The entertainment at night was great for kids and family. We enjoyed different acts some great some not so but fun anyway. We did not use kids club but spoke to many who said it was very good. The pine walk near by it a must do as it is so nice. The beaches in the town are good also. My family loved it and want to return. I would highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Room 1206 , even 1205,1204

We have just returned from an 11 night break here and this was our first holiday as a family and it was fantastic.

We took a 2 and 3 year old with us. As everyone has said the Hotel staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The pool is excellent for children and adults and yes it does get busy but we always managed to find 3 sunbeds together in a good area. We spent every day either around the pool or on the beaches nearby which are lovely. We never really needed anything else - the area is beautiful and the food at this hotel excellent. We upgraded to half board on arrival and we were not disappointed - our children have never eaten so well - the Children's buffet and Chocolate Fountains were a big hit.

We met some lovely people too and the entertainment was enjoyed by all - some could be a bit cheesy - the highlight being the group the Sundaes who were hilarious but the Jacksons the most disappointing.

Don't be put off by other people saying negatives about this Hotel - trust me we are fussy and this is a super place.

We did not use the kids club as we want to spend time with our children but by all reports this was very good. Thomson reps Heavenly Heather, Asha Boo and Ali G work extremely hard from dawn to dusk to entertain everyone - well done girls!!!

Book it and you will have the time of your lives - we did and we will be back again very soon!!!!

Room Tip: Want a quiet room away from the entertainment - ask for a room in block 1 at the back facing the mou...

just returned today after spending last 2 weeks at Playa Mar. Great hotel, really friendy staff, we even had the cleaners waving our coach off when we left. All the staff were always very helpful.Good pool, bit of a walk into the main town though. Although stayed self catering did have brekkie there a few times, and although quite steep at 10 euros pp there was a lot of choice and could eat as much as you wanted which meant it kept us going until the evening.
Only 2 criticisms for the hotel, 1 being the music in the evenings, it was far too loud for younger children. it was deafening inside the venue and even sat outside was difficult to hear or hold a conversation. We travelled with 2 children, one child is 5 and he was holding his hands over his ears, the other child is 14 months old and started crying when ever we went into the venue so had to sit outside anyway. It doesnt need to be that loud! By the way im in my 30s and still into the clubbing scene so not an old fuddy!
2nd criticism is the sunbeds. i saw a post on here earlier about reserving sunbeds. Unfortunately i was one of the culprits (if you cant beat them then join them). i found myself having to get up at 5.45am to reserve sunbeds, and still there were not many left around the baby pool at that time.leave it any later than this and you have no chance. i dont like it, i dont like doing it but i cant see what anyone can do to stop it. If they do stop people doing it and ask them to wait until 9am when the pool opens then there will be a queue and mayhem of people running, hurding and tripping over their flipflops trying to get a sunbed. may even be a few punch ups, which come to think of it may be better entertainment than layed on in the evenings.
Apart from this the hotel was excellent and would definately recommend it.

Just returned from 2 weeks of bliss at the playamar and puerto pollensa. self catering for me, boyfrienand 4 year old. The hotel and facilities are amazing, pool, beds, spa, playground, kids club, entertainment (ashaa boo, ali g, heavenly (bit miserable) heather!!) maids, life guides all fantastic. little shop is fine but short walk to the right on the round takes you to another spar with a cafe bar attached and wine is excellent as is the food at the ofrmentor store. very relaxed pace of life and we felt like we were literally there forever. thanks playmar and thomsons "memories to cherish".

Room Tip: choose top floor as frogs and fountain are a bit noisy in the evening in block 1 and the other block...

Spent 10 days there, two adults and two young children, we went all-inclusive. All the staff from the reception, restaurant, bar as well as the cleaners were superb - really friendly and helpful. The apartment itself was good, cleaned every day and met our needs. We had an upstairs one with a view of the pool which was good. The buffet choice was wide and the quality was good although the novelty of it all did start to wear off towards the end. The entertainment at night was great for the kids and our two really enjoyed the Kid’s Club through the day. The Pool area is excellent, our two spent hours on the water slides. I’d read complaints about the pool temperature and it was cool when you first went in but absolutely fine once you were in - there’s enough energy wasted without heating an outdoor pool in the Balearics!! Overall I’d have no hesitation recommending Playa Mar to families with Children. Watch out for the Gin at the bar though - it’s one of those “more gin than tonic” places :-)

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Playa Mar- amazing!! We were travelling with our sons aged 8 and 4 and grandparents. We were staying on a self catering basis. When we arrived at the hotel we got wine or apple juice and fruit or biscuits. We had 2 apartments and both were immaculate and cleaned, beds made etc every day. All staff in the hotel were so friendly and helpful. We ate from the snack bar at the pool most days - food and service was great. We also ate in the restaurant one evening and again the food was really nice with a great selevtion. The hotel is very clean throughout and well maintained. The manager was excellent and helped us take our cases to the bus on our departure. The pools were great for our boys and we always managed to get a sun lounger. The location of the hotel is great - about a 20 minute walk along the pine walk to the main shops/restaurants of Puerto Pollensa. We walked this most nights, it is beautiful. We will definetly be back, hopefully next time for longer.
