I have borrowed this quote from a previous reviewer (hope they don't mind) as I think it sums up the hotel really well - grubby but tolerable!

The rooms are more than just tired: rusty light bulbs, dirty grouting, stained towels, unusable crockery, etc etc. We had ants twice which was dealt with by a cleaner spraying around the edges of the window but didn't move my children's toys first!

The pool area is also grubby! The bridge over the pool is extremely rusty which has dripped onto the flower beds below, so presumably it falls into the pool too! The crab slide is ok but there is also some deterioration around the back.

I have to admit the reception, restaurant and bar staff are amazing and are what make this hotel tolerable. The kids reps are great for the children and 2 of the entertainment reps were lovely. However, we made 5 separate complaints to the hotel reps but we heard nothing and were offered no alternatives or even an apology.

I don't like complaining but this was too much of a disappointment. When you pay for 4 star you want 4 star. This doesn't get anywhere near 4 star.

I can understand why people come back year after year - if you like Thomson entertainment above all else, then this is the place for you. The resort itself is stunning. We walked down the pine walk each evening and this was certainly the highlight of our holiday.

I will never return to this hotel as it really is not worth the money but we're already planning to return to the resort.

Room Tip: Block one around the back gets garden views and is much much quieter!

I have just come back from this hotel and I have to say it was fantastic! The staff are very friendly always greet you and have smiles on their faces-very welcoming. The Thomson reps are also the same. They are very friendly, great with children and put on a great show every night-highly entertaining. The hotel is very clean and tidy. The food and drinks were fantastic. I did go all inclusive and it was well worth it. The food catered for everyone which was great. I only have two downfalls to this holiday. First is the sofa bed in my room was hard and uncomfortable. Second, it was hard to get a sun lounger every morning round the swimming pool. You had to be up at the crack of dawn every morning to ensure you get enough sun loungers for the family. If it was not for these two issues I would have rated this hotel a 5 out of 5. (I have rated the sleep quality low due to my sofa bed) Even though these two issues were annoying I would highly recommend staying here to people and will return at some point myself, hopefully next year. This has been one of the best holidays I have been on :)

This hotel is in peurto pollensa which I think surely must be one of the most beautiful and friendly places in Europe.

The hotel itself is a very pleasant place. The reception pools and gardens are delightful I was concerned my older one would get a bit bored but he has enjoyed the fast crab slide and really liked the kids club staff.

Rooms

Small. I think a keen eye for standards could spruce them up without much effort for example neatening the grout round bath etc. The furniture is large and at odds with the size of the rooms. The coffee table went on the balcony! I requested two rooms in a quiet area and I got these which was much appreciated. A super sized sheet would have been nice as I constantly slipped down between the two single beds. The air conditioning was brill!

Food

Bit lacking for me. Lots of salad choices which was lovely but stingy on the meat. Some pasta dishes would have been great instead of rice. Breakfast was disappointing. Where were the Spanish chorizo? No pancakes or hash browns either which are delicious and really low cost I would have thought? The restuarant was very quiet and they could do much better.

Location

Far away from centre if you are dragging 3 kids. Don't bother walking-get a taxi for 5 euros.

Staff

Honestly they were delightful and very low key so as not to spoil the holiday by gardening noises etc. such a lovely bunch of people I don't think I have met anywhere else. The atmosphere created here is ultra relaxed and it's a credit to them. I never felt taken advantage of, 'fleeced' or dealt with in a surly manner which is unusual. None stood out as they are lovely. Thomson staff also very good with children. With this kind of hols what you put in you get out of and if you engaged with them they were great. I think judging by negative reviews some forget they are all in their 20's and here predominantly for the children! My kids really liked them and I appreciated their efforts. Would I go back? Not sure. Looking for that elusive hotel in the centre of a resort with all the kids club facilities as well. If not maybe next year :)

We stayed as a family of 4. Two adults, a teenager (19yrs) and an 8 year old. We were all inclusive. The food was nice and there was plenty of choice. The hotel is very 'child friendly' with the small pool having a sloping entrance to it so small children can just splash around in ankle deep water if they want. Even the deepest part of the pool is only around 1.4 mtrs. The staff are very friendly and the Thomson reps work extremely hard keeping everyone happy and entertained.

Firstly Negatives...

There were a couple of negatives - the kitchen was filthy and my bed was just basically a box and not comfy at all. My wife's bed was fine. These weren't major problems to us as we were all inclusive and didn't use the kitchen and I just put up with the uncomfy bed.

If you want peace and quiet then look elsewhere. This is a proper "family" holiday destination. Lots of music, kids, mayhem. It's still relaxing for the adults (kids club was great - between 1pm and 3pm for 6-8yr olds and free on the all-inclusive Thomson deal). At night the kids tend to go next door to the play area or go to the front of the stage leaving the adults free to relax further back from the main entertainment area and enjoy a few drinks.

The hotel isn't well situated if you want to do a lot of exploring of the area. It's a decent walk to anywhere (although you can get to a very small harbour bit for a splash in the sea with a few minutes and walk along the front).

We were only there for a week and for me that was enough (although I did really enjoy it). We would definitely go back just due to how well everything is laid out and how child friendly it is. You feel comfortable letting the kids just play knowing there's lots of pairs of eyes all looking out for them. It's like a massive sunny creche!

And a special mention to the Thomson entertainment team who did a fantastic job of keeping everyone entertained. I don't know where they get their energy from but they are full on all day.

Room Tip: Block 2 is a good block as it is ideally situated (central).

Our return to the Playa Mar this year did not disappoint. This is a fabulous hotel for families with children. The rooms are ok and are spotlessly clean. I do agree with some other comments in that if Thomson want to continue charging high prices for this hotel then the rooms need some updating.
The staff at the hotel are brilliant and I must give a special mention to Sebastian on reception who is friendly, professional and an absolute credit to Mar Hotels. Also I'd like to mention Angie from the restaurant - lovely and so helpful. Tricky Nicky from the entertainment team has endless energy and is a fantastic all round entertainer. My son went to Kids Club and the staff there were great.
We went to the spa off the first time this year - fabulous!
The food does get a little bit samey when you're all inclusive but we had a few meals out which made a great change.
I'm sure we'll be back but I'd hope to see some upgrading to the rooms.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.

Enjoyed our second visit in two years to Playa Mar. staff wonderful as ever special mentions go to Xisco Told And David but all staff were attentive bar a few. Rooms could do with updating using mattress protectors comfier beds but mostly all good. Despite other reviews slating Thomson Entertainment ( u need your heads read) we found it great they work tirelessly to entertain guests from morning to night with fun games to play to get u out of the sun for a while
NIC and Deanna are some of the best reps I have come across great personalities work very hard and always smiling. Loved our holiday made some great friends and will return in the future xxxx

This is the second time we have stayed at the Playa Mar and we have had another great holiday here, but the hotel is lacking in a few areas and doesn't look to have improved in two years despite all of the reviews. Reading other reviews about the staff, I have to disagree slightly in that I found them a bit sullen this year. They advertise a daily cocktail, but when we asked for one they didn't appear to want to make it and they just looked miserable. However, at night there were some really nice bar staff. The ladies that run the mini market on site are downright rude at times and don't like children!!

I emailed 7 months before our arrival date to ask for a quiet mountain view room and I received a very nice email to confirm this would be done, but we got a room overlooking the pool and entertainment area. I was told this could not be guaranteed (even though I had it in writing). They did move us to the room we stayed in previously away from the pool area.

Sadly the Thomson entertainment team let the holiday down. I know they work hard, but if I am honest it was boring and distinctly average. We stayed at the Protur Bonaire in Cala Bona last year and the entertainment team there were first class, so much energy and very professional. The children went to kids club a few times and they said it was ok.

We stay on a self catering basis as we like to eat out, but the kitchen is not adequate to make anything other than basic pasta/sandwiches as the facilities are so poor. The rooms could do with a refresh, the bathrooms are looking dated and the beds we found uncomfortable. However, the rooms were made up daily and you got clean towels, which is good.

The reason we book here is the location. It is so beautiful in its proximity to the Pine Walk. The walk into Puerto Pollensa (albeit a bit long at night with hungry children) is stunning. There is an excellent pizza restaurant called Laroc that I would hightly recommend for freshly made pizzas and the staff are excellent and will make any variation on what is on the menu.

There aren't enough sunbeds and parasols for everyone due to the small pool area for the amount of apartments. If you get up early enough though you can get one.

Sadly, Thomson have increased the price again for this accommodation for next year (£600 more for 11 nights self catering than we paid this year) so we won't be returning next year.

Room Tip: Quiet, mountain view room away from pool/entertainment area, although I did ask for this and we didn...
