“Excellent holiday ”
Reviewed 3 September 2014 via mobile

Not really one to write these reviews normally but felt it was deserved in this case, I would like to thank Kate, Emily, Joe and the rest of the Thomson kids team ( Tricky Nicki, Rossy Rocks, Deanna Montana ) for being so entertaining and also helpful with info and advice when required.

The hotel room was really clean and kept that way all week by the maid and even the kids pull out beds were very comfortable considering our kids were 14 and 15, also the aircon kept the room at a good temperature which was nice.

Food was amazing the entire time and even my very fussy wife was constantly complementing the choice and quality of the food, Angie and Andres from the restaurant along with the rest of the crew were so accommodating and helpful and bearing in mind we were all inclusive we got to try the lot.

Check in was easy and the Cava was lovely too and all of the reception staff were really helpful.

All in all we all loved this holiday and I could write loads more about the chilled atmosphere and beautiful surroundings but running out of time.

To summarise we loved the whole trip and all hope to go back soon.

We had a great stay at the hotel in late August 2014. In school holidays the hotel is very much aimed at families and is quite busy. It can get quite crowded around the pool and there is a certian amount of 'competition' for the best sun bed spots. However, to be fair we could always get a reasonable spot even if we did not join the Q at 9 in the morning when the sunbeds are unlocked.

The staff are always very friendly and helpful, especially Sebastian on reception who deserves a special mention. The food is a buffet style help yourself and has to cater for a lot of people, but on the whole was very good and we enjoyed eating there. The house wines for 4.5 euros were excellent.

The rooms do feel a little bit tired now and the fridge did need to be cleaned when we arrived. But everything worked okay and we had lots of clean linen changes etc and the house keeping staff always made up and cleaned the room very well.

The location of the hotel is also very good, an easy work to town along the water front and the resort itself is great.

While the hotel was not amazing, it was very good, we would go back and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing outwards, not towards the pool complex in block 1 or 3.

We spent a week here in Mid-August and overall we had a great week. Prior to arriving we spent some time reading previous reviews and this helped as we knew what to expect. While the rooms were somewhat outdated, they were clean and worked fine for our needs. Although with 3 kids (one who is 1 year old) the rooms were small and proved difficult to spend anytime in.

The hotel is great for facilities, in particular the pool which is the hub of the complex. Getting a sunbed is challenging and will require an early start if you want to get a lounger. I even got up at 5am one morning and there was still a large number of beds reserved. Apparently people were reserving them late at night before they went to bed. Even though there are signs to say no reservations, this is not enforced. The hotel staff are great and are really helpful, but for us the winners were the Thomson staff who are constantly entertaining everybody. From the various kids clubs on site, to the entertainment crew they had a long day each day dealing with the guests. Food in the hotel was fine, plenty of choice and selections. Great selection of restaurants in the port which you can reach by taking the pine walk. We got a taxi up on some evenings and saved the walk for the return which was lovely.

If I had to pick out some negative points, i would say the rooms are small for 5 people and the pool area in parts was a little grubby. However despite this we had a great week and would certainly return.

Room Tip: we were in block 2 overlooking the side of the hotel. This was great for us with small kids. Some of...

Pretty much agree with most comments on here!
Staff work hard and are really polite and helpful (apart from the grumpy chef in the restaurant...but I guess that's the nature of chefs!) Special thanks to Angie (restaurant staff) for her kindness and interest...she always had our wee boys Fanta orange ready on the table when she spotted him coming in without having to ask, which made him feel special).
The studio we had was basic but clean, we had no issues with air-con despite the high temperatures outside, but we could have done with more space for clothes and the equipment was a bit lacking, e.g. only 2 glasses and 2 chairs on the patio (we were a family of 3).We didn't cook in the apartment but I don't think I would have been happy to do so due to the lack of space and equipment.
Thomson staff work tirelessly and are always full of beans but I think their routines are getting a bit tired although that may be me getting tired of hearing the banter, their enthusiasm never waned.
Pool area is great, crab slides are fab for both kids and adults and were great when you need a cool off! Whilst we were there a new manager took over the hotel and he instigated the locking of sunbeds until 9.00 which was great as it meant no getting up at silly o'clock to ensure you got a bed round the pool, we never had a problem in getting one.
The external entertainment was 3rd rate at best, which is a shame as evenings in the town are focused on eating so if you are looking for a bit more than 3rd rate tribute acts this maybe isn't the place for you!
The location is stunning. The Pine Walk is lovely but after the first week we were beginning to tire of it, we tended to walk into Town and taxi back (approx 5e) so it wasn't too much of an issue.
The beach near the hotel was too stony for us, but the one after the harbour was lovely, pedaloes and watersports aplenty. No issues with getting a sun bed there either (12.50e for 2 beds and a parasol). 6e back to the hotel in a taxi if you're tired after a beach day!
We upgraded to AI for 8 days (4 days at a time, then back to SC and then another 4 days at the end) Its cheaper to do it in blocks of 4 days (37e per day per adult and 18.50e for a child). You can also upgrade to HB (again cheaper if you do 4 days...22e per adult per day and 11e for a child). You can get breakfast tickets or dinner tickets on a daily basis. The food was ok, plenty of choice even for picky eaters but it could have done with being hotter, when we were there it was never very busy in the restaurant which may explain why the food wasn't refreshed often and was luke warm.
This was our second visit to this hotel (last visited about 5 years ago) and I think it will probably be our last but that's probably because Thomson the Dog and Kennel Club doesn't really do it for our 10 year old now, he's looking for go-Karts, air hockey etc ...well I guess they all have to grow up :(

We love Pt Pollensa and have been many times, but this year left it late to book and ended up at Playa Mar thru lack of alternative. First impressions, a very smart, clean and impressive looking hotel, well situated at the end of the scenic pine walk but a little distant from the town centre for those not willing/.able to walk 20 mins or so. With two older teenagers we were not at all interested in the entertainment/reps/shows/kids club etc and used the place as a base to go on our daytrips in the car, a purpose for which it was fine. I guess the rooms must vary and it's the luck of the draw what you get, but ours was pretty reasonable, good maid service, lovely view, and being an end one a nice breeze through the flank window, lucky as the air con wasn't great. Yes it was a little "cosy", and the kitchen no good if you truly wish to self cater, but we were on an SC basis and just ate out. The restaurants in PT Pollensa are generally of an above average standard and reasonably priced. We only swam in the pool once, it was alright, clean etc but swarming with little kids and the continual annoying noise of the "music" and the reps ensuring that you are all "enjoying yourselves". YUK! With the standard moronic scramble for the sunbeds in the morning we opted out and headed for the beaches, (the guests at the Playa Mar were pretty much exclusively Brits and would give the Germans a run for their money for the sunbeds anyday)! We paid to eat in the restaurant on two occasions and it was very good, lots of variety and very tasty. Those complaining it was "samey" I guess would be the ones we saw who just had to cram a bit of absolutely everything onto their plates at the same time! If you expect a vastly different kind of meat AND fish AND chicken, etc etc for each of 14 nights then you will be disappointed, however if you eat a little more sensibly as you might at home, then you will find enough variety! Entertainment we caught bits of seemed generally poor (Bingo? - Arghh!) but to be completely fair we didn't hang around much! Staff were pleasant, didn't really encounter the reps! All in all, I imagine this to be an average Thomson hotel, great for little kids and those wishing to plonk their ample tattooed flesh onto a sunbed for a couple of weeks (provided they get up early enough!), or acceptable as a comfortable base for exploring this lovely island. So, in summary It was "OK" but probably not again. Pt Pollensa however remains a great resort to visit though I have to be honest and say it is sadly becoming just a little more Chavvy than it once was, inevitable I suppose with the number of us Brits now visiting! Room Tip: try for an end one for ventilation, and avoid the far end of block three where little Kai, Sienna and Tyrone screamed their darling heads off at the floodlit play area til gone 11:30 each night while M and D got stuck into the All Inclusive!

Room Tip: Blocks 1 and 2 pool view get sun on balcony in morning, blocks 3 and 4 pool view get afternoon sun...

I have borrowed this quote from a previous reviewer (hope they don't mind) as I think it sums up the hotel really well - grubby but tolerable!

The rooms are more than just tired: rusty light bulbs, dirty grouting, stained towels, unusable crockery, etc etc. We had ants twice which was dealt with by a cleaner spraying around the edges of the window but didn't move my children's toys first!

The pool area is also grubby! The bridge over the pool is extremely rusty which has dripped onto the flower beds below, so presumably it falls into the pool too! The crab slide is ok but there is also some deterioration around the back.

I have to admit the reception, restaurant and bar staff are amazing and are what make this hotel tolerable. The kids reps are great for the children and 2 of the entertainment reps were lovely. However, we made 5 separate complaints to the hotel reps but we heard nothing and were offered no alternatives or even an apology.

I don't like complaining but this was too much of a disappointment. When you pay for 4 star you want 4 star. This doesn't get anywhere near 4 star.

I can understand why people come back year after year - if you like Thomson entertainment above all else, then this is the place for you. The resort itself is stunning. We walked down the pine walk each evening and this was certainly the highlight of our holiday.

I will never return to this hotel as it really is not worth the money but we're already planning to return to the resort.

Room Tip: Block one around the back gets garden views and is much much quieter!

I have just come back from this hotel and I have to say it was fantastic! The staff are very friendly always greet you and have smiles on their faces-very welcoming. The Thomson reps are also the same. They are very friendly, great with children and put on a great show every night-highly entertaining. The hotel is very clean and tidy. The food and drinks were fantastic. I did go all inclusive and it was well worth it. The food catered for everyone which was great. I only have two downfalls to this holiday. First is the sofa bed in my room was hard and uncomfortable. Second, it was hard to get a sun lounger every morning round the swimming pool. You had to be up at the crack of dawn every morning to ensure you get enough sun loungers for the family. If it was not for these two issues I would have rated this hotel a 5 out of 5. (I have rated the sleep quality low due to my sofa bed) Even though these two issues were annoying I would highly recommend staying here to people and will return at some point myself, hopefully next year. This has been one of the best holidays I have been on :)
