I thought i's start by setting out what we were looking for from this holiday, our first foreign holiday with our little girl (2 in November). I'm 37 my wife 34. We had reservations about going all inclusive but as it was a 'test' holiday thought it covered us best.

Criteria;
- Child Friendly but not overbearingly so
- Approx. 2hr Flight
- Not too hot or busy

We opted for October as it was out of peak season and the price saving compared to the school holidays (thankfully still doesn't apply to us) was massive.

As mentioned by a previous reviewer the stand time waiting for other flights to join to transfer coach was appalling especially with a little one to keep entertained. we worked out that we actually spent longer on the bus than on the plane! and would definitely look to sort out our own transport to the resort next time.

Upon arriving at the hotel the reception staff were excellent and we were soon allocated our room key and informed of everything. We had done our research beforehand, and knowing some of the blocks had been upgraded, upgraded to a suite which was in block 3 (recommended) we did this as we knew we'd be in there most evenings when the little one was asleep so having a separate front room complete with fridge, kettle and microwave would be useful. Block 3's proximity to the bar was handy to nip across and bring a drink back as well at night.

The room itself was nicely finished and the travel cot already assembled next to the main bed.

One of my main concerns before coming, after reading some of the reviews, was the food quality and I've got to say that for the price i couldn't complain too much. The pizza section was especially nice. My only criticism would be the children section didn't offer much by way of choice/quality but we just got her food from the adult bit anyway. I think much of the criticism levelled at the food was unfair as i found that there was always plenty of choice. The theme night food wasn't always great but there was always other things on offer. Thinking about it my only real complaint would be that the puddings were never labelled so, if like my wife, you don't like nuts, it was a bit like Russian roulette.

Going this time of year, the hotel wasn't busy but there was still a decent amount of people about. The communal floats and pool toys knocking about was a welcome bonus. Also there were cornetto's, etc. available by the bar area during the day.

The pool layout kept the different types of holiday makers apart, adult pool separate from the kids pool etc. which i could appreciate. Plenty of biking groups this time of year.

The drink quality on offer was good, Estrella on draught, and enough named spirits and various cocktails on offer Caipirinha, Aperol Spritz, Mojito, i felt i had to sample a few to give a balanced review and they were all good.

The entertainment at night was probably more suited to children older than ours but she joined in by the end and again (recurring theme) the staff were excellent. the adult entertainment we didn't see much of but could listen to from the balcony if we wanted.

The walk into Pollenca was a nice stroll along the front, probably around a 20 min walk, but was always a nice one. the 'palm lined' description probably paints a different picture to the reality of beach side with a few trees. There were a few nice little beaches along the walk which were perfect to spend a morning/afternoon on. In Pollenca itself there were plenty of shops, bars restaurants and a nice harbour to walk around and the place itself was quite charming, not as charming as the 'old town' which is worth getting a bus to for a look around. We would call at the bar of the Hotel Illa D'Or on the walk back to hotel, nice location on the front looking out to sea (obviously at the little ones nap time).

All in all i would definitely recommend it, i'm not sure i would at the prices I've seen for peak season, but for the right price i can't fault it. The staff, location and facilities fully satisfied exactly what we were looking for and would definitely look to return.

PS. I've seen some people comment on the pool temperature! when you're hot, a dip in a cool pool isn't so bad, and it wasn't that bad or freezing. The sea was warm for a swim if it really was too cold.

My friend and I needed a break and we found this hotel and decided to book it from the 8-16 Oct since it looked good. We usually have the bad luck of picking under par hotels, but we struck gold here!
Although being the last ones dropped off late after an extensive coach ride, we were welcomed by the friendly receptionist with a bottle of water and local biscuits to snack on. we were also informed there was some food in the restaurant for late travellers, even though it closes at nine.
The layout is nice. Each of the four apartment blocks has four floors and they are a decent distance apart, so it doesn't feel closed in. Apart from the children's pools which look a bit tacky, the main pool area is quite large and is really nice. The bar and snack area is great, just what you need after a trip out.
The rooms are really nice. We had an apartment with separate bedroom and a fold out bed in the main room. They were modern looking and ours was kept clean.

What was good was, a maintenance man came to fix an issue on the foldout bed, which I had noticed, but never informed anyone about. It seems that a cleaning person must have noticed it and informed maintenance. Must say, we were impressed.

The staff here are lovely. The restaurant staff were lovely and willing to help. The kids club group looked like they were having fun too.

It may be a bit isolated, in the top corner of Port De Pollenca, but the beach was gorgeous and so peaceful. It got busier, the nearer to the port you got, but was still lovely.
All in all, this is definitely a hotel we advise people stay in.

Room Tip: Top floor away from the pool are quieter

Recently returned from a week at the Playa Mar (19th to 26th September). Arriving late in the evening we were offered a welcome drink and checked in by Louis The restaurant provided a cold buffet which was very welcome after our journey which was delayed by a rather long time waiting for our coach transfer to proceed (about an hour). It could have been due to our flight landing early and having to wait for other flights that were delayed.

We had booked a Superior Suite, requesting an upper floor. This was in block 3 at the back with views of the mountains and a view of the sea which was restricted by trees. The Suite was very clean and comfortable. The housekeeping staff maintained a high standard throughout the week with clean towels provided on five days out of six.

The pool area had plenty of sun beds, but we were out of main school holiday period. Families with young children obviously used the children's pool with the slides etc, but we used the other pool which offered a more relaxing atmosphere. (And it was nearer the pool bar!!) The all-inclusive drinks were available from this bar and in the evening it was used until the main bar opened at 7pm. Not sure if this applied in high season, but if you prefer your aperitif in a glass, rather than a plastic cup, best to wait until 7o'clock.The option of Beefeater or Gordon's gin and Ballantine or J&B whisky was a bonus on AI.

There were several themed nights in the restaurant, with Asian, Mexican and Spanish. There was a good range of choices for all meals, so unless you are the world's fussiest eater you should find something to satisfy you.

All the staff were welcoming and friendly and the Animation team worked hard to provide various entertainment for all guests.

All in all a very enjoyable week. Thank you to all the staff at Playa Mar.

Room Tip: Superior Suites are very comfortable.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel between 12th & 19th October, 2017, it has everything you could want, helpful pleasant staff, clean and comfortable rooms where the cleaning staff come everyday, plenty of sunbeds, pool areas for different age groups, from toddlers to grown-ups and large entertainment room. The restaurant area is also spotlessly clean and the choice of foods at all sittings is vast.
There is however one downside, that is the hotel location, it is a good twenty-five minute walk to Puerto Pollensa itself and if you have any mobility issues and yearn for a bit of variety this is not the place for you. I also was not too impressed with the entertainment, but maybe it was close to the end of the summer season
