“Oro Playa”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

I agree with other reviews about the apartments and complex being a little dated. However, the price reflects this, and for the amount of time your in the room, it is acceptable.

Positives :- Great location, a stroll away from pine walk, sea front, restaurants and town centre and square. Manuel, the entertainment man, excellent, at it all day, not to overpowering and doesn't badger you to take part. Great with kids disco at 9pm each night. Reception staff very helpful. Car hire, directly opposite the apartments, 84 euros for 3 days, we had Fiat Panda which was sufficient for the 340 miles we did, and used 50 euros of fuel. Insurance was full apart from tyres and keys.

Negatives :- On the second day we decided to use the pool. Around 40 beds lay available. I got two and found the mechanism which enables the bed to an upright position, i.e. reading, was missing or broken. I moved around the many others and found these to be the same. No beds available at all. We decided to go round to the Flora Apartments just at the back. Their beds were far more superior, as was the surroundings, and the inside of the building. We spent money on drinks and food at the Flora instead. We did this for several days thus depriving the Ora Playa from many euros each day. I spoke to others who did the same. This was very annoying and a great disappointment. I would advise that if your a sun worshipper you need to get out very early and seek out a good bed, or book somewhere else. The patio door was so stiff my wife struggled to open it. I checked and found it very much needed lubrication. I reported this to reception on day 2, and she said she would report it to the technician. On leaving on day 7, the door had not been lubricated or seen too. Again very disappointing. The cleaners didn't clean the balcony and we found we had to do this ourselves. Also, wi-fi in reception area not reliable. I struggled to give this accommodation 3 stars, but it just about scaled home.

Room Tip: No lifts, request ground floor if needed.

Even though we travelled as a couple we noticed it was a very family orientated hotel, plenty of activities for kids! That said, we felt very welcomed. The pool area is beautiful, palm trees, a nice deep pool, with a separate kids pool, sun beds are plentiful and music playing, just what we like! The room was very spacious, great facilities! A little wear & tear on the furniture but we didn't mind as it was clean! We only stayed for two nights but that was enough for us to come back in two weeks time! It's super close to the beach, restaurants, supermarkets and bars. We didn't experience the on site bar/snacks area as we met with friends a lot, but the staff were very friendly and we can't wait to return!

Just got back from Puerto de Pollensa and stayed at the Oro Playa appartments. First of all Puerto de Pollensa is gorgeous - don't hesitate, just go. It is beautiful and everything is in your doorstep. Great beach, great restaurants and glorious mountain walks.

The Oro Playa is in the heart of everything. Is a little tired and dated? Yes - but who cares? It is clean friendly, spacious appartments right where you want to be. Sure if you have money to burn then don't stay here, there are some gorgeous places just round the corner on the pine walk for three or four times the price. But if like myself money is a little tight then you here you have amazing value. The chance to stay in a beautiful place, just yards from the seafront and the mountains at a really very silly price.

Go for it, I loved it and would go again any time.

Basic clean apartments and very friendly staff but, the best thing about this place is it location. It is across the road from the beach and the pine walk with some lovely restaurants and a stone throw from the town square.

just returned from holiday at Oro Playa with wife + 2 kids aged 14/15, complex opened day before we arrived but everything was spot on, staff were friendly and extremely helpful, plenty to occupy the kids with entertainment during afternoon, apartments fairly basic but clean and functional. Location of complex is fantastic just yards from start of pine walk and minutes walk from main square, all in all great holiday just a shame we had to come home !

Me and my family have stayed at the Oro Playa for the past 10 years. We'll be returning for the 11th year this July. Yes the rooms are a little dated, yes the aircon in the old rooms can have its moments but really, how much time will you spend in your room on holiday?! You get what you pay for here, it is basic but a stones through away there are apartments for thousands of euros a week. You are less than 50 meters from a stunning beach and surrounded by lovely restaurants and shops. The pool is nice and enclosed and there are activities throughout the day for the whole family. Many of the members of staff have been there since we first visited and we very much look forward to seeing them all again this year!

Basic apartments but incredibly clean & friendly.
We travelled with our 2 children aged 4 & 5, we weren't sure what to expect as we booked on the spur of the moment!
On arrival at very early hours of the morning, we were greeted by a lovely, friendly man on reception, who was incredibly helpful (& even directed us to a near by local bar to buy the children bottled water at 2am!!)
We didn't spend a lot of our time in the hotel as we were staying on a self catering basis & wanted to get out & explore as much of the resort as possible! The apartments are very basic, but really clean - which is all we really needed, the pool was nice & the evening entertainment was what you'd expect for a smaller hotel ( parrot show, mini disco etc)
The resort itself is stunning with lots of beach to explore & lovely safe water for the children to play in. We invested in crab lines & fishing nets which provided hours of fun!! We took the bus to Alcudia just to have a look - large sandy beach & lots of fish in the clear waters which you can feed from your hands!!
We also took a bus to the old town, which is really lovely & climbed the hundreds of steps up to the little chapel on the top.. Where you can catch your breath with a nice cold beer, perfect!!
We also took a boat that ferried us over to another lovely beach for the day.
The prices were quite expensive, but the food & surroundings were worth paying for. Overall a really lovely family holiday that we won't forget - I'd Definately recommend staying here as everyone's very friendly, helpful & child friendly - a great little hotel in a great resort!!
