“Excellent location, cheap but tired and noisy”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I really can't add any more to what's already been written in the comments below.

On the positive side, it is very cheap, friendly, brilliant location and clean (although worn, such as copper oxidation on the taps etc).

On the negative side it is very worn, tired and battered and it is very noisy until midnight, every night.

The entertainment is actually good on most occasions, but gets wearing when you're a couple of nights in and want a bit of kip but have Freddie Mercury screaming radio gaga in your earhole. We were actually in the room that was probably the furthest away from the music source as well, I would think that in front of the stage you'd have no chance of kip until gone midnight, which is fine if that is your bag. As well as the pool which is pretty good, they have a couple of pool tables, table tennis, a pinball machine and a Tekken arcade cabinet. Even the machines are retro! We had breakfast a couple of times and it was good and the bar and reception staff are very friendly.

We went with a 2 year old and a 3 year old and for the money, we'd go back, but it does require a bit of investment.

Stay away from this hotel. Awful rooms, simple and dirty, cheap entertainment in the evening, a kid with a microphone, talking and talking, uninspired, while elderly people get drunk in the bar. So sad place, the reception is the best room. We stayed one night, and moved on to a better hotel the next morning.

I cannot help but agree with many of the other reviewers: there is much to commend about Oro Playa, but it could do with some serious TLC from the parent company, Mar Hotels. My wife and I regularly stay in Puerto Pollensa but normally opt for privately owned accommodation in a quiet setting. So why this time did we stay in a busy complex complete with children's disco every night and crowded pool area? It was cheap, the apartment had all we needed and the location could hardly be closer to everything. We opted for a superior apartment facing out towards the mountains and had as much privacy as we wanted. As just about everyone has said, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the cleaners work hard to keep everywhere spotless. The reception staff were always ready to help out with all manner of enquiries but I suspect that much of their time was taken up dealing with problems arising from the basic flaws in the infrastructure of a complex fraying at the edges. To take a minor example: all the superior apartments had a fixed rack on the balcony for drying clothes but for some reason ours did not. I did wonder whether Mar Hotels is more interested in promoting the newer (and Thomson-featured) Playa Mar elsewhere in Puerto Pollensa, as Oro Playa is only open for four months of the year. Yet Oro Playa is in a much better location and was practically full every night we were there. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves whether they could find a lounger that did any more than lie flat or not. We would happily go there again: hearing the nightly rendering of "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" is a small price to pay for the location and value of the place. I just feel that the dedication of the staff deserves greater input from the parent company.

Room Tip: Block C is one of the 2 (?) blocks with superior rooms. The exterior rooms face the mountains and g...

we stayed here for a week in may. we paid a little more for a deluxe room and really recommend it. it was as if it was just finished. High spec bathroom with a big walk in shower and a lovely comfy bed. All the staff we met were really friendly. When we arrived we were allocated a ground floor apartment by the pool but we knew instantly it would be too noisy for us. we have no kids and wanted to enjoy the odd lie in. We asked to move and they found us a 2nd floor room with a view of the mountains. Pluses:Great location. You couldnt get better for the price. Supermarket just across the road which stocks everying you might need. Bar snacks are reasonably priced and you can get take away to your room. Friendliness of staff.Deluxe apartment is lovely. MinusesPool and reception area needs tidied up.Most of the sunbeds dont allow you to put them in the upright position.Wifi doesnt reach past reception.Highly recommend the deluxe room for a budget holiday.

First time staying at Oro Playa having been to Pollensa a few times. Cheap but clean, does need a little updating but perfectly functional. Good pools and very enthusiastic "Animacion" staff giving plenty to do if you can't sit still. About 50 yards back from the infamous pine walk with plenty of restaurants and a small local supermarket nearby but no noise disturbance and only about a 10 minute stroll to town if you fancy it. Kiddie disco starts at 21:00 6 nights of the week followed by some form of local entertainment. Relatively small and very friendly place where the staff were top notch. Would happily stay there again.

We booked a week at the Ora Playa & yes the hotel is tired and desperately in need of some TLC. However, the location is spot on for a visit to this resort. It is very close to the beaches, the supermarkets, bars & resteraunts and makes a great base if you don't want to spend much time sitting by the pool.
The pool area was clean and tidy although the amusement arcade type games on the veranda were somewhat annoying. The bar was reasonably stocked with the basics & other guests appeared to enjoy the entertainment (best avoided if you don't like kids disco's, bingo, pub quizzes etc).
The room was clean and a good size & typical med style - albeit warn around the edges. The shower didn't work in arrival and after a chat with the lady on reception a new mixer tap was fitted. The kitchen work top, now that was a different matter! Urrgghhh. It was a stainless steel top covered in rust. But as this was just a base we had no intention of preparing food so it was best left unused.
I would use the hotel again simply as a base for touring this fabulous area of Mallorca and not for a pool based holiday with true self catering!

I agree with other reviews about the apartments and complex being a little dated. However, the price reflects this, and for the amount of time your in the room, it is acceptable.

Positives :- Great location, a stroll away from pine walk, sea front, restaurants and town centre and square. Manuel, the entertainment man, excellent, at it all day, not to overpowering and doesn't badger you to take part. Great with kids disco at 9pm each night. Reception staff very helpful. Car hire, directly opposite the apartments, 84 euros for 3 days, we had Fiat Panda which was sufficient for the 340 miles we did, and used 50 euros of fuel. Insurance was full apart from tyres and keys.

Negatives :- On the second day we decided to use the pool. Around 40 beds lay available. I got two and found the mechanism which enables the bed to an upright position, i.e. reading, was missing or broken. I moved around the many others and found these to be the same. No beds available at all. We decided to go round to the Flora Apartments just at the back. Their beds were far more superior, as was the surroundings, and the inside of the building. We spent money on drinks and food at the Flora instead. We did this for several days thus depriving the Ora Playa from many euros each day. I spoke to others who did the same. This was very annoying and a great disappointment. I would advise that if your a sun worshipper you need to get out very early and seek out a good bed, or book somewhere else. The patio door was so stiff my wife struggled to open it. I checked and found it very much needed lubrication. I reported this to reception on day 2, and she said she would report it to the technician. On leaving on day 7, the door had not been lubricated or seen too. Again very disappointing. The cleaners didn't clean the balcony and we found we had to do this ourselves. Also, wi-fi in reception area not reliable. I struggled to give this accommodation 3 stars, but it just about scaled home.

Room Tip: No lifts, request ground floor if needed.
