“enjoyed the stay”
Reviewed 17 April 2011

The Duva is a very family friendly hotel with great food and good night entertainment. However the beach and town square is quite a walk from the hotel. My son did get an ear infection on the first week which was a huge dissapointment as he couldn't jump into the pool and enjoy himself. It was also very frustrating because the manger refused to belive there was anything wrong with the pool even though there was 4 other families who were having the same problem throughout the course of their stay. There are very nice facilities such as the spa, indoor pool, gym and a few computers at the reception, I enjoyed the stay but the pool obviously full of germs and bacteria!

Stayed 2 weeks from 14/3/2011. . Easy 55km motorway drive from Palma airport to Duva.
Self catrering accomodation at the Duva was spacious, clean and of a high standard. The free pool, SPA and other facilites excelllant - need cap and flip flops. Apartment cleaned and linen changed almost daily. Restaurant buffet very good quality and value. Staff very helpful and spoke English.. Certainly recommend the Duva without reservation, bear in mind the nearest beaches are a good 15 minute walk away

We stayed for a long-weekend in mid March; a little off season which made it great value. We had a self-catering apartment which had a good sized bedroom, bathroom and living area with balcony and kitchenette. The staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. The room and hotel facilities were scrupulously clean.

We came to Majorca to cycle and Duva catered well for us. There is a securely locked underground car park with several bike cages, a work stand and free driers. The hotel is well situated, just on the outskirts of Port de Pollenca (but no more than a 5 minute walk to the Eroski supermarket, 15 minutes to town and 20 minutes to the port and beach at a leisurely pace).

The spa is also excellent - the hydropool and sauna are just what is needed after a hard days riding.

This hotel was booked as the one that we were going to originally, was overbooked and we were glad it was. The Duva proved to be an excellent choice ,as one of our party is disabled /wheelchair bound in later stages of Huntingdons disease. We were quite overcome with the wonderful welcome and helpfulness we were shown on arrival.

They had prepared a disabled room for our disabled friend and his mum. The facilities were excellent with good wheelchair access and disability aids. The staff also showed us how to operate the lifts for the disabled into and out of the swimming pools and we were even able to have our own key for this, for the week at no charge. The spa pool was even accessible and very welcome.

The dining room staff were also helpful, reserving the same table for us each evening with easy wheelchair access. They could not have done more for us.
The hotel was extremely clean and comfortable and within walking distance of the beach and town with a wheelchair and buggy complete with an eleven month old. The reception staff put us in touch with a taxi company with up to date equipment for wheelchair boarding with passenger in situe. It was so easy to get around and prices very fair . We were able to get to all the places we wanted to with ease.We had the same driver each time On the other hand most of the local buses were also disabled friendly and were never in a hurry which gave us plenty of time to get on and off.

The evening entertainment was great and for everyones information, yes the music was a little loud at times but finished at about 11pm in consideration of the guests who wished to retire early. We actually had half board although the rooms we were allocated ,were fully self catering equipped, handy if we needed to bring back a meal from the restaurant for our disabled friend. Once again I cannot say how helpful the staff were with this.
We will definately be returning to this hotel in the future and I am contemplating taking my 86 year old mother in her wheelchair. sometime this year. The airport assistance at Palma was also first class (just let them know in advance that you are travelling with disabled persons and wheelchairs etc.)

We stayed here from the 7th-21st october. We had only gone self catering, so can't comment on food at the apartments. Our room was on the top floor, was quite spacious, but we had holes in the wall where the wardrobe was, so our clothes were constantly damp, and also an infestation of ants in the wardrobe to. It was almost end of season, and no one around to fix the problems. The ceiling in the bathroom leaked when it rained, so a soak in the bath after a full day trip didn't last long. We did loads of trips, but don't book with your rep, the company the hotel use is cheaper, and you literally follow the tour operator bus around.
The walk to the beach didn't bother us at all, it took us about 20 mins at a stroll, the marina is lovely, and you can have a nice walk along the front. The area in general is lovely, and we would return to Puerto Pollenca, but would not stop in the Duva again, it should be more like a 3 star at a push, certainly not a 4!!

14 nights at this hotel was 13 too many. We had been advised that the Hotel was of 4 star standard and I can truly say that having used many 4 star hotels both at home and abroad the standard of the Duva was at very best a 3 star. The hotel in general looked shabby and not well maintained. The bedrooms were small and bathroom lighting was poor. There was mould round the curtain tracks with curtains hooks missing.
The room occupied by two of our party had no water pressure in the WC and shower. This was reported twice but never fixed satisfactorily.
The corridor where my room was located had a total of 11 light fittings. Seven of these were unlit and when the guests next door to mine asked for a light bulb to be replaced, only that one was replaced. Since our room was furthese from the lift, I had to use a pen light to insert the key in the lock.
The TV lounge/bar had no air conditioning and the unit dripped water for the whole two weeks we were there, with towels mopping it up on the floor and ‘caution’ notices under the unit. This room was also not cleaned. The adults in our party used this ‘social’ room after dinner to try and avoid the very loud entertainment area, the only other option being retiring to one of our rooms.
The food, although plentiful for both breakfast and dinner, was never hot and definitely not 4 star quality with ver very limited vegetarian options apart from salads and vegetables.
The cleaning in both the rooms and swimming pool area was perfunctory.
I know that a doctor had to be called on at least two occasions to treat guests with ear infections and I believe her opinion was that these were caused by the lack of cleanliness of the pool. There were at least 10 guests suffering from earache during the second week. Although there was another open air pool and the pool in the Spa area, risk of ear infections put me off using the pools and therefore curtailed my holiday enjoyment.
Although the staff dealt with the problem promptly, two of the three rooms we occupied were infested with ants.
We were also misinformed as to the location of the hotel in respect of beach, shops, bars etc. We had been advised that these could be found at a distance of 600 metres but were in fact at least three times that distance. This was confirmed by one of the taxi drivers which we were obliged to use if we wanted to leave the hotel as the only other option was a 20-25 minute brisk walk. Needless to say the use of taxis greatly increased our expenses.
The only positive thing I can express about this hotel was that the staff was kind, pleasant and helpful although there was definitely a shortage of waiting and restaurant staff, particularly at the pool bar, with only one person doing all the serving at lunch time resulting in quite lengthy delays.
Finally, reading other reviews all I can say is that we had paid 4 star prices expecting 4 star quality but this was not so. Anyone booking this hotel should be prepared to lower their standards because what you get is not what is written on the tin!

This holiday was a true disaster from start to finish. The hotel was certainly not up to the standards implied by the brochures..Firstly and most importantly, the situation of the hotel is a good bit outside the main town and thoroughfare, and the nearest shop is a lousy wee Spar with a very limited and expensive stock. The beach is a half hour walk for the fit and healthy, and a taxi ride for anyone else. It is most definitely not only 600m to the beach as stated. The hotel itself was a big letdown. The rooms were pokey & dismal and we had two infestations of ants, and faulty air conditioning which was never satisfactorally fixed. The food was at best luke warm, and very unimaginative, and vegetarians were not catered for at all. My wife lived on salad and potatoes for a week.
The pool area was filthy. If rubbish was strewn around the area, it was still there the next day, all the deck chairs had broken backs, which meant you were lying at an angle, and five of us got ear infections from the pool, which the hotel blamed on us. Six other families also got ear infections, but the manager refused to believe there was anything wrong with the pool. The staff who were on duty were as helpful as they could be, but the whole place was grossly understaffed, so they were limited in how much help they could offer. The management seemed to turn a blind eye to every complaint, not just with ourselves but with so many other families as well. The hotel is granted 4 stars, but this is down to it having a Spa.....without the Spa...2 stars at best.... There are far nicer, more central hotels in this beautiful resort, and I would seriously avoid this hotel at all costs...
