“the best hotel on majorca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2013

hotel illa d’or – pollensa – Majorca.

i have just returned from my 6th stay at this exceptionally luxurious hotel set in a beautifully quiet situation on the famous waterside pinewalk of Puerto pollensa. In fact, today I have booked my 7th stay for 2014.

The manager senor Miguel Salom runs a tight and very efficient ‘ship’ at illa d’or, at the same time ensuring the charm and genteelness of previous generations remains.

The reception by the staff on check-in is always warm, efficient, prompt and welcoming. Thanks to the leadership of Senor Garcia, it appears that no problem is too small or too large for the illa d’or reception staff to deal with.

It is wonderful to have the same type of room on the second floor every visit. These rooms have the best terraces, and a tremendous sea view onto the sweeping bay of pollensa., definitely the best terraces in the whole of pollensa.

the traditional rooms are a little small, [the hotel inform me that many rooms are undergoing upgrading at present], but make up for their lack of size with the quality of home comforts provided; satellite tv/radio; air-conditioning; refrigerator, and a well stocked bathroom with top of the range toilet requisites and bathrobes.

Both the daily cleaning of the rooms [and terrace], as well as the general housekeeping are of the highest order.

One never need not leave the breakfast table hungry. There is a superb fully stocked breakfast buffet with a vast array of fruit; cereals; cakes; breads; cooked meats; [79 different items in all], and of course cooked breakfasts are available with a choice of both Majorcan and british specialities………..breakfast is definitely one of the daily highlights at illa d’or.

The 3 course dinner in the hotel restaurant in the evenings is always very good with a fine choice of both Majorcan and international dishes……… the sorbets and desserts are particularly delicious.

The excellent menu is well supplemented by a tremendous winelist.

If one wants a special treat then book a table next to the bay at the ‘la terrasa’ restaurant, the food here is simply the best that I have ever had during my 50 years of visiting spain.

The beach bar is always lively at any time of the day, and provides genuine local entertainment 3/4 times weekly. lunchtime snacks can also be had at the beach bar.

There is a small but very well equipped gym; and the hotel hosts excellent spa and ‘wellness’ facilities.

But the absolutely best asset of illa d’or is its personnel. Everybody in every department is friendly, smiling and helpful. It is always a good sign for a hotel when you see the same staff every year.

Particular thanks should go to the restaurant manager, Gabriel font, and his team, including marie, lo-li, teresa, monica and Antonio.

I do hesitate to recommend illa d’or to anybody who wants a quiet, luxurious and ‘old fashioned’ holiday………as they used to be. This is not a place for disco queens or drunks…………this is Majorca at its absolute best, and it gets better and better for every year, congratulations to senor .

July 2013

Room Tip: choose rooms on the second floor facing the sea.

Having had dinner on the edge of the bay in the terrace restaurant a few years back, we knew the food was good but, on this stay of a week we found that everything else about the hotel was also top notch. The staff are very special....hard working, smiley and ( despite never recording an order ) are able to deliver precisely what you require, and very efficiently and quickly too, even when busy.
The large table d`hote restaurant is also to be commended, excellent food and choice on the HB option. Nice pool, deck with chairs and sunbeds on watersedge and busy bar with same friendly staff.
Puerto Pollensa is very touristy but Illa D`Or is thankfully about a mile walk away along the pine walk on the waters edge, good for an after supper stroll, but far enough away from the hordes to preserve tranquility!!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms with balconies are great but very hot ( unless shuttered ) in peak summer months. We...

My wife and I celebrated our 38th Wedding Anniversary at the Illa d’Or just as we have done with most of our anniversaries since first coming here in the early eighties.

The Illa d’Or is superbly situated in a tranquil setting at the end of the beautiful Pine Walk and our first floor room with balcony and full sea view allowed us to gain full appreciation of the bay and marina.

We stayed on a half board basis with both breakfast and dinner having an excellent range of both local and international choices and a very high quality of both food and service.

The major strength of this hotel has always been its staff, many of whom have been there since our first visit. It would be unfair to single out any member of staff as each and every one you come across could not be more friendly or helpful in ensuring that you have a wonderful holiday.

Since our first visit we have seen the hotel management and staff strive so hard to make continual improvements to the quality of both the facilities and service.

From the minute of your arrival the friendly and efficient reception staff ensures that your holiday has the best of starts. This standard of service is continued throughout your stay with rooms being effectively cleaned for your comfort and convenience. The friendly and experienced restaurant and bar staff effortlessly serve you as if you’re their only customer and you complete your stay again at reception where they have everything under control and accurate so that another wonderful vacation comes to an end hassle free.

Well done yet again Illa d’Or – can’t wait for our next visit.

Janet Duggins and myself returned home from the Illa d' Or on the 23rd June after ten days holiday. it was my first holiday at the hotel and Janet's third. Janet had recommended the hotel on numerous occasions and since my visit I have nothing but praise for the way the hotel is run - the staff are charming and helpful at every level. The food is first class. I have never been abroad before and eaton so much for breakfast; there was so many tempting things to try.

Needless to say. We had a wonderful holiday and in view of this we have already booked again for next year. We will be returning again for tan days in June and have requested one of your refurbished rooms with balcony and full sea view. Thank you so much for making our holiday a memorable occasion. Janet Duggins and Norma Chadwick

An excellent experience - the staff were particularly good and attentive. The quality (and quantity!!) of the breakfast meant we didn't need to eat again until dinner! Sea bathing is safe and easy - several access places within yards of hotel. The memory of evening drinks overlooking the bay will long be remembered.

Room Tip: 1st and 2nd floor sea views particularly good.

Stayed here for 5 nights in June 2013. The looks of envy of the passers by was consistent throughout our stay. This is a very nice hotel in a great location at the end of the bay (15 minute walk to the Marina). The room was clean and spacious and our room (220) overlooked the pool with a side view to the bay. Breakfast was excellent - the highlight being able to sit right beside the sea while eating. We also had a couple of lunches which were very good, but we did not eat here in the evening, preferring to walk into the centre.
Why I am not giving this hotel a 5 star rating is because I booked a sea view room and in my opinion I got a side sea view. Overall a great place to stay, but make sure you know what you are getting (when booked independently).

We have just returned from our second visit to the Illa d'Or and this time we stayed in one of the refurbished rooms on the 3rd floor. We missed not having a balcony but the rooms have been really well done - very bright and modern. They said the 1st and 2nd floors will be refurbised winter 2013, so we will probably return in 2014 and request a 2nd floor room with a balcony. We love the sea view - well it's really a bay view - looking across towards Alcudia - it's a beautiful location and the light changes at different times of day. We booked bed and breakfast this time as it's easy to walk into town along the pine walk where there is a very good range of restaurants and bars. We book independantly - the hotel responds very quickly and effeciently to emails. They will arrange taxi collection from Palma airport (about 45 minutes drive) but we booked a hire car (don't use Goldcar - we did last time and they will charge you for a full tank of fuel no matter how much you use - we booked Hertz this time as you can trust them!). The hotel is not designed for children - and the guests are mainly in the 50+ age group when we have stayed in June/early July. An evening drink in the bar overlooking the bay is a very pleasant way to relax and we found the service excellent.

Room Tip: It is worth upgrading to their larger rooms - the standard rooms are a bit on the small side
